He was asleep for two years, but when he transferred to ALO, it took most of his stats from SAO since ALO is a clone of SAO. Re-think that situation, Kirito is essentially a max strength and speed bad ass -vs- some little shit who has barely been playing the game. Kirito has been leveling his skills for 2+ years, no avatars in ALO can match that.
The Salamander commander was a tough opponent for him, but in ANY PvP game, skill > stats (again, you must remember Kirito has stats from 2+ years of non-stop playing).
If these are your only reasons for why SAO is a bad anime, then you are very shallow and sad.

Pltbtbtbt one part I can explain that game was the mix of both of them and also he was more resetting his stats instead of his level.

Fuck.

well he wasnt asleep for 2 years. he spent 2 years in the same game with the same engine and all that. It was basicly like he spent 2 entire years in Cod mw2 and then he went on to cod mw3. small changes, but the game is pretty much the same.

the inconsistency i agree with, i feel that the story would've been much more compelling if the storyline was smooth and not so loosely attached/rushed.
also i feel that as the series would progress, it would become dull without a bit of chemistry between leading characters.

the rest are valid points but didn't bug me to the extent of hating it, i still thoroughly enjoyed the show and the idea behind it.

Well, he wasn't really asleep, he awoke from one VR game to another, so it makes some sense.
He set the guy's system ID to level 1, his authority as a GM.
The 950 sword skill was, maybe, the ability to use certain weapons, I think. The guy who wrote it, wrote very vague rules for the games, not very good. It was the worst aspect of the story.
And yeah, the show was way too inconsistent, they tried to pack everything in in chronological order when that was a stupid idea. But I still like the show.

I tried to ponder that for a bit. ALO somehow determines the player's real life skill. It obviously can't do that by scanning someone's appearance like SAO did, which leads me to believe that it would reasonably have some kind of dynamic calculation going on behind the scenes as the player goes about that determines the actual values of the skills. Since Kazuto had his skills set from his time in SAO, it's possible that the system bugged out since it couldn't handle a player jumping in with nearly max melee abilities, so he was stuck there as a badass. Not saying that's good storywriting, but that's the reason that came to me off the top of my head.

Personally, I wouldn't call SAO anything exceptional. Was it entertaining? Definitely. There were some genuinely funny and touching moments, even though a lot of it was just cheesy or generic. It had some cool settings, exciting concepts, but the plot the writers chose betrayed its potential. From a critical point of view, it was rather poorly done. From a casual point of view, "I don't give a shit. It killed time and I was having fun."

Well, don't forget, they're nervous system is literally plugged into the game, they can feel it all happening. So Kirito's time in SAO practically trained him for ALO, not really calculations. Here's some fun aspects the author wrote that don't exactly mesh together.
1. (ALO) PvP damage is calculated by 4 things: weapon type, armor type, speed of the hit, and where the hit happens. Normally, Kirito had low weapon damage versus the opponents high armor rating, but...he's really good at where he hits. Plus, a player's speed is really determined by their ability to synch with VR, aka how long they've used it. So Kirito, with 2 years (plus the two month beta test which actually explains why he got Dual Blades) experience under VR, he had the highest speed of all. Plus HP makes no fucking sense on how the author wrote it.
Kirito kept his high skill levels due to the ALO being a clone of SAO. The writer did the best he could, one of those situations where "yeah that doesn't make sense, but without it it'd be even more retarded (Heavy rain style)"
TLR low explanation, jumbled logic, I really liked the show.

25 episodes. Its pretty shit due to inconsistency "Alfheim has no leveling system, its based on skill from your real life muscle", the next episode, someone whos been asleep for 2 years mops the floor with someone experienced at the game. Where the fuck is the logic? and then later on at the end (episode 24) "System, reduce him to level 1"... Did it not say there was no leveling system? and lets not forget the salamander guy who has a 950 sword skill level. On top of all that, the show feels rushed and it also feels like the people making it were arguing between making it action-filled and purely romantic. Its not great. Its shit if anything. I recently watched Attack on Titan, that may be the best anime ive ever seen, it made me feel, i felt touched when they came back from the expedition.
