George Wada said in the animagic 2014 report that production of S2 had been decided and that they were in the pre-production stage. At the end of the Shingeki no Kyojin Movie 1: Guren no Yumiya premiere it was announced S2 will air in 2016. There hasn't been any more news of an actual date, just that it'll air in 2016.

I really really doubt there will be a second season at all, let alone any time soon. I mean sure it was popular in both Japan and America but there are so many things to suggest it'll never happen:

The NGNL source material is a LN, LN anime adaptations rarely get second seasons because they're usually just done to promote the source material and boost sales. There are only a few LN anime I can think of that off the top of my head that actually got a second season/sequels - Sword Art Online, Log Horizon & Railgun.

Madhouse produced NGNL, it's rare for them to do second seasons but then again other production companies have been known to take over an anime for a second season.

Popular anime don't always get second seasons, it all depends on things like BD sales too, not sure how well NGNL has sold though so it may have that going for it.

There's also a lack of source material for a second season as far as I'm aware, Kamiya needs to pump out some more volumes before there's a chance.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was all about deconstructing the characters to the core, dismantling their thoughts and issues until they were stripped bare. Sure it had the over arcing story of angels, lilith, adam, evas, the impacts and the first ancestrial race etc but ultimately what appealed to me the most was the characters and just how deeply they were developed.

I enjoyed the original ending because it completed Shinji's development, he'd been broken down into nothing, was severely depressed to say the least, but through the human instrumentality project he began to rebuild himself, he was able to realise that he can like himself, that he isn't worthless and that it's okay for him to be scared, it's okay for him to build relationships. Evangelion changed the way I though about life, one cheesy thing that stuck with me is the idea that if you're going to think negatively then life is going to be negative, I think in the final episode they used the idea that if you think of rainy days as bad then whenever it rains it will be bad, not because it's certain but because you perceive and cause it to be.

I think both the endings are brilliant, while it's nice to have the exciting, conclusive and thrilling EoE I appreciated the whole psychological side of the original ending more. So many anime have that big conclusive ending, especially of this genre where all characters go out guns blazing, but Evangelion didn't, that was really fulfilling and had a fairly big impact on me. I wasn't particularly mad that there wasn't much closure in relation to the story, maybe if I'd have watched Evangelion at a time when EoE wasn't out I may've been mad but who knows, as it stands I was satisfied that the anime went down a route which thoroughly developed Shinji and finished on that note because to me, what makes evangelion are it's characters. gotta say the story is pretty cool tho

It kind of frustrates me when people complain about the visuals, Gainax had barely any money towards the end of anime and yet they still did a good job, in my opinion, with what they had. For example the whole scene with Shinji and Kaworu, it was a still screen for about a minute, so many people were mad yet I actually thought it said so much. Wow I'm sounding pretentious or ignorant trying to make out a scene has a purpose which probably wasn’t intended To me it completely emphasised Shinji's struggle between protecting humanity and having a relationship with someone he could talk to, someone he felt understood him and most importantly someone who wouldn't hurt him. Gainax did the best they could and I appreciate that. I definitely agree with it leaving more questions, like I said if I didn't have EoE to answer them I may've ended up pretty mad haha. I guess it does seem like a mindfuck, I didn't really understand the human instrumentality project until I watched EoE, I probably wasn't paying enough attention at the start of the episode though.

Fair enough, I think both endings are brilliant. Having both the psychological, character based original ending and EoE ending which answered our questions and had a semi complete ending was great. I say semi complete because the ending with Shinji and Asuka was ambiguous but then again I liked being able to try to interpret and understand what Asuka meant and what may’ve come next . Arguably the two endings can work simultaneously to give a wholesome synergetic ending so that's great too I guess.

I always enjoy reading other people's thoughts on evangelion, especially it's ending because it's different for everyone and is pretty complex, so thanks!

I definitely agree with all that you've said but what I was saying was that the staff did their best with what they had, I mean there are plenty of anime with bad animation despite large budgets.

I've been meaning to watch katanagatari, it's been on my PTW list for quite a while. Noragami Aragoto is definitely my favourite anime this season, it really stepped up from season 1 and season 1 was brilliant imo. I've been watching Diamond no Ace, I should probably finish it haha..

I've been watching it for 298 days now so I really need to get back into it haha, when I first started watching it I was so into it, it was really cool, the kind of hype you get when you watch sports anime like KnB and Haikyuu. I don't know what happened but I got to episode 33 or something and then stopped watching, I've watched up to 35 now. The shows good, or what I've watched is good, but I think I just stopped watching because I was watching other things. I'm finding it hard to get back into it now but I'd like to finish it so I can catch up with the airing episodes.

Same here, people tend to immediately think anime is weird and the people who watch it are weirder despite never watching a single episode. My friends know I watch anime and usually just say I'm always watching hentai or that I can be pretty nerdy

Yeah true, I guess I'll pick it up when I next have time off, I don't really have the time for long episodes, even when I do I end up getting fidgety, it's why I've put off Hellsing Ultimate for so long. Ah well, if it's a good enough show it should be fine.

Yato and Yukine cut a god damn Pacification Ring, a weapon so powerful that it can destroy the human realm! It didn't happen in the manga but it was a nice addition. The manga ending was a bit sadder too but if I'd have saw it animated I probably would've flooded my room with tears. What're you watching now if you don't mind me asking?

I'll finish it sooner or later... I hope. I'm watching it now kinda, I've watched 38 episodes over 373 days haha. A lot of people love Gintama and I'd love to complete it but sometimes the humor is dry and can get boring, the characters are brilliant though. It's pretty repetitive so I'll probably just watch an episode a day and muscle through it that way. The show has a specific kind of a humor, if you don't find the first few episodes it's just not for you, still, many people say it doesn't really get funny until around episode 30 which I agree to, the first 25 or so episodes are just introducing the cast, if you get to the 30 episode mark and you don't enjoy it then there's really no point in watching it. Personally I think the episodes are hit and miss but I'd give it a go regardless.

There isn't a lot of anime completely rotoscoped but it is still used in a fair few anime for parts, off the top of my head I can think of Aku no Hana, Ping Pong, Sakamichi no Apollon, Kowabon, Ergo Proxy etc.

I don't like the look of it, it looks unnatural and just isn't a favourite of mine. I dismissed 'rotoscoping in anime' not rotoscoping in general, like you said it isn't overly used so I based my opinion on what I've seen of it so far in relation to anime so I'd say my opinion is justified.
