anon (11/30/2015) [-] Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. Just because something is unpopular doesn't mean it's good, either. Yeah, people call things "shit" too much because that implies something has no, or next to no, value. That's usually not the case. However, just because something is praised by a large group of people doesn't mean something is good. I can go into detail about the flaws of your logic, as well as flaws of many popular shows that I've watched, but if you honestly think the first 14-ish episodes of SAO are "brilliant" then you probably won't understand. SAO is loved and praised generally by young people that are new to anime. They don't know what a good series truly is, so they take the quick and easy entertainment you don't have to think about much. That's fine, people can like what they like, but just because a bunch of people like something doesn't mean it is high quality. Something is popular for a while - gets overused - becomes hated. Almost every community does it. None probs quite so bad as /v/ because you can't even be in the moment at /v/ since they hate everything. I remember here when AoT was just released and was super popular and it's basically the same as One Slap Jap is right now. I agree with you but i feel compelled when ever someone mentions something similar about sword art online. I don't hate it cause it's popular, i have watched all of season 1 and 2, and the show did have potential. But potential was all it had. I hate sword art online because they set up this awesome world and built up all the floors and how difficult it would be to clear them. They built up dying in the game meant dying for real and then they skipped 90% of the worlds challenges. They could have shown a bunch of different levels and bosses with different gimmicks but instead cut the hype short and only did 3 or 4. On top of that the series only had two fully developed charters through most of season 1, not like Kirito was that unique to begin with, and then made one of them an immediate damsel in distress character. Don't get me wrong the damsel in distress thing can add a lot to certain shows but the romance between them literally happen within the span of an episode, that's ridiculous and don't get me started on the creepy AI baby, in game marriage and incest. No sword art online despite it's quirks is not awful but they wasted so much of what they built so fast it just left the worst taste in my mouth after. All they had to do was make the first game world span more then one season, develop the Asuna Kirito relationship over time, and add more depth to the characters they had already put in the damn world! tldr: SAO could have been way better easily and wasted most of it's potential and i'm butt hurt about it. If you want more detail on all the floors and fights without the, "one thing led to another and we're 30 floors later" the author wanted to but he couldn't cuz the original was for a contest so he recently started a remake of sorts that goes through and details every floor with a couple floors a novel Well that put's my mind at ease a bit. Glad that the way things are now wasn't the original plan. Do you know if the remake will get a anime adaptation FMA Brotherhood style or will it be left as a manga. It's called progressive and only a few novels in and each novel is only a few floors so even with several seasons it would either get as many episodes as one piece or be super rushed, hopefully if it gets an anime it would just be super long running. The new telling changes certain aspects but keeps true to the original plot the best thing is the new way he tells kirito and asunas romance, a lot more fleshed out and less rushed they currently still despise each other and I love it Sounds like exactly what i wanted out of the show. I'd be okay if they skip a few floors for the sake of a show, although the more the better, as long as they have more than 30 or so. I assume you read this online, mind linking me? My friend actually bought the books so I borrowed them but it shouldnt be to hard to find a translation online #18 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Excluding Dragon Ball Z, which is just dated, the anime up there is like pieces of crap with a gold base. The start of Naruto was amazing and it wasn't until Sasuke went to join Orochimaru that the plot and overall theme of the show started to quickly go down hill. I could go on and on about that, because Naruto was my favorite back in the day, but everything in Shippuden was utter crap and deserves to be called such. Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan are shows I have not personally watched, so I can't really talk about them. I will say a lot of people say Sword Art Online is the same way: It starts out really good, and then goes to crap. Attack on Titan, however, kind of goes to crap for me when the MC comes back as a Titan. Kind of ruins the point in my opinion. Fairy Tail and Bleach are the same theme, too. Both start out with great ideas, great execution at the start, but then it quickly delves into the MC and a few select characters being the only important people. Some people still have their 'sad stories', but Natzu/Ichigo are the only ones that really do anything. More so Ichigo than Natzu, but Fairy Tail has more of the "That plot line we were going towards? That didn't even matter." Also friendship speeches, but the writer of Fairy Tail has been like that since Rave Master. So, I dunno. Back in the day, those anime were the top because they deserved to be the top. But then the writers didn't plan ahead and just kept pumping out horrible plot lines or retconning things that they said were fact later. Or they completely missed plot lines they perfectly set up and just went on with the worst idea possible. That's what happened to Naruto, at least. Those are the reasons, at least to me, people crap on the shows that were super famous when they came out. It's a classic failure of many authors. A good premise or good plot does not make a good story. Good writing makes a good story. Another key problem with mainstream Shounens is that they are designed to be mainstream. Things like JoJo and OPM are doing things that can be considered new. But who knows, eventually OPM and JoJo may be seen as shit tier. "Attack on Titan, however, kind of goes to crap for me when the MC comes back as a Titan. Kind of ruins the point in my opinion. " But you havent watched it, how can you criticise something you havent watched? I didnt love the idea of Eren being a Titan at first but IMO they did a good job with it. #39 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Because that part alone makes me not want to. The premise, the idea, was good. "Humanity vs monsters!" But then, the MC is suddenly a monster himself and it becomes more of "Monsters vs Monsters" and it ruins the point that it starts with. I'm missing a lot of context with why and how, but I know /what/ happens, so I can criticize that at least. The premise looks like humanity vs monsters, but it turns into humans vs humans. all of the villains are titan shifters, who have complete control of their titan bodies. They've been alive for forever and realize that humanity is a dying race, so they attempt to push it to its death. The reason I didn't finish the anime was because of the main characters. They're bland. The side characters are much more interesting and developed, to the point I wish that Eren, Levi Sue, Mikasa Sue, and Armin would get killed and replaced with actually good characters. I guess, for me it made the show realy interesting. That people could turn into Titans (not just Eren) and that several of the people in the main character group turns out to be titans made me really interested in it. The manga is also great. Its really intersting right now. And its okay that you dont wanna watch, just found it strange that you criticised something you havent watched yet. #42 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] I'm sure it's great, but just not my cup of tea. I've never been into the whole human-like monster thing. Kind of gets me some flak from people I know who are really into the Monster Girl show, though I know that's completely different from Attack on Titan, but that sort of thing just doesn't click with me. Thats understandable. For example im not the biggest fan of the giant robots anime or anime like dragonball Z. They just dont interest me. #44 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] I definitely agree with giant robots, mostly ones in space though. The whole space fighting giant robot thing was just so... awkward. Some are okay, but I have to say I prefer things like Dragon Ball Z myself. Physical fighting with special abilities to amplify it. Like One Piece, y'know? But robots don't click with me for sure. Never got into Gundam, for example. Transformers were okay in some parts, though, because they weren't being piloted by people. Nice to see we agree about the giant robots.Oh, i do like physical fighting with special abilities. Its just that Dragon ball for some reason never appealed to me. #46 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Dragon Ball Z kind of goes above and beyond stuff like One Piece when it comes to the special powers. Plus they yell a lot and focus more on transformations than really physical fighting. It usually comes down to beam struggles or giant blasts. So I can definitely get why someone wouldn't like it. #21 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] What really disappointed me about Naruto was that Kishimoto had such a great exciting world to go wild in yet it just fell flat, the characters went from ninjas to over powered super humans and the story ended up repetitive and dull with all its plot holes and ret cons. Rather than being about ninjas it became a story about saving Sasuke which became really boring really fast, it increasing got worse after shippuden. Although I must say, I enjoyed some arcs of shippuden. I don't really mind that aspect of Attack on Titan although it seems alot of people I've spoken to agree that Eren becoming a titan wrecked it. I think humanity could only go so far with killing titans before they'd need some amazing weapon. I agree that everything revolves around Ichigo but I don't think it's really the case with Natsu in the anime/manga recently, alot of the main characters take down the villain, granted it isn't always the main villian, but they still get a hell of a lot more screen time that Ichigo's group. Natsu had to work with the twin dragons and Gray to even get a shot at Mard Greer. Wendy stopped face. Even Lucy has/is getting alot of limelight. I completely agree, I think with most of them they just don't know what to write anymore, Kishimoto admitted he didn't know how to finish off Naruto and look how it ended up. #23 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Naruto has the most easy to get into world, in my opinion. There's a reason it's got the most stories in the anime section for fanfiction. There's just so many pathways Kishi could have gone with it, but he tossed it out the window. It's also why I write them, because there's so many ideas to use. It also feels nice when people say it's a good story. Like, Anko, for instance, or the Hyuuga. Anko could have easily been Sasuke's teacher. To teach him how to not use Orochimaru's mark. But she disappears after the 2nd part of the exam and doesn't really re-appear until near the end of Shippuden for a plot hole of Orochimaru coming back. Some arcs of Shippuden were okay, like the Pain fight, but overall it's a 2/10. I could go on and on about Naruto, though. It was, and still sort of is, my favorite. It's a shame what it became, and the ending is almost unforgivable, but it still has given a lot of inspiration and things to work with. I can see some manga coming out in the future that's similar. Maybe it's already out, but not popular. I dunno. The fanfiction is definitely worth reading, though. For Attack on Titan, I do agree that they would need some kind of weapon to fight the titans, more so than their little daggers, but I think they rushed the MC becoming a titan too fast. It should have taken more fights, and there were other things they could have done. Cannons, tried ranged weapons, tried making traps... I dunno. It was just a bit rushed, I think. On Fairy Tail, I stopped reading the manga after the second time skip. The time skip that didn't really need to happen. The whole arc right after that skip was the idea of getting everyone back together, but it was just a constant friendship speech and then there was all this build up of Gray going evil because of the demon stuff he absorbed in the last arc, which was also a bit too preachy but that goes without saying... But then it turns out Gray was fine and just occasionally has black stuff spread across his skin. He wasn't evil, he was just being a spy. Then they had all this build up of the group he was spying on, and they get one/two shot by Natzu. It's like.. What? What was the point of that entire arc? Why not just have Gray with Juvia to start with, if everything that was built up didn't matter at all? The whole Zeref thing was just a step in the wrong direction, I think. His "followers" haven't even met him, and they just keep going on about killing everyone for no reason. It makes no sense. I really think the issue is that writers for hard-core manga aren't planning ahead enough. Madara Uchiha and Bunny Mom in Naruto are the pure and best example of "I don't know where this story went." Hopefully Naruto and Bleach will be good examples for people to not follow when it comes to endings. With the Boku no Hero Academia anime coming out, I'm hoping we'll get a taste of the "good" Shounen again. I just hope it doesn't go down the same road as those two. And hopefully there won't be any Sakura-tier characters. Seriously, there were /so many/ ways she could have been useful, but she wasn't. It makes me sad that she never grew to be the best after that fight in the forest during the Chunin Exam. #26 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] Yeah, I've wrote a few Naruto fan fics in my time haha. I just felt Kishimoto didn't really maximise the potential of the amazing world he created, something which I think Oda does pretty well. That's pretty much the case with alot of huge battle shounens, too many characters which never get reused. The pain arc was one of the ones I enjoyed, I was irritated that all of the dead characters got brought back to life, it felt like a cop out to keep fans happy. I would've liked Orochimaru to have been more of a main villian in Shippuden, he was quite interesting. It felt like Kishimoto gave up towards the end because he didn't know what to write, maybe he was even bored, it annoyed me how he even forgot to give Hinata's byakugan to Boruto or Himawari. I hope Naruto Gaiden becomes more promising but it seems to be headed in the same direction as it's predecessors. Rushed, definitely, but I'm not sure how else Isayama would've done it, after all the Survery Corps had been around for a while so I'm sure they would've tried everything like cannons and ranged weapons already. Eren becoming a titan is quite a huge plot point so in order to have a main focus/story it had to happen quite early on. I think the time skip was necessary in the fact that they needed to become alot stronger to even scratch the current arc's villains. I've got to agree that the whole Gray becoming evil was stupid, it was so built up and it just flopped. I'd still rather Gray have been a spy though compared to it becoming an arc about turning him good again like with Naruto and Sasuke. Definitely. I've been looking forward to Hero Academia, I hope it turns out to be as good as everyone is making it out to be. #30 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] It's a big shame what he created didn't end up being really used in the canon. Honestly, he used a lot of characters in that "everyone comes back to life" arc that we only got brief mentions of, but then he completely ignores character's back story and growth. Like all the rookies barely got any new moves since they were last shown. Just expansions on their moves that were already known. I don't even think it kept fans happy, you know? Like when Zabuza and Haku came back... I didn't feel happy. I felt sad. Sad they were being milked after their perfect deaths. I think that Kishi really did just give up. The entire ending was just awful, the whole war was awful. I think a war was needed in the story, especially after all the talk about the "shinobi war" in the past that made the Yondaime famous. But it needed to be against Ninjas, not Zetzu. Zetzu should have just been a guy with a plant bloodline, nothing more. Naruto Gaiden, from what I've seen, is just a dramafest. Drama about who Salad's real mom is and what not, and then a bunch of family stuff. It's just Kishi milking Naruto for more money because he doesn't know what else to write. There's no way his whole "World of peace" is going to go the same direction as the original. I dunno, I could go on and on about Naruto. <(' '<) What sort of stories have you wrote? I've actually been working on one to redeem Sakura, but I haven't gotten past 20 pages. My main story right now is about at 200, though. I feel like it was still rushed. I mean, I don't have much info because I haven't watched it myself, but turning into a Titan should have been like... something in the mid point, not right at the start. That's what I think, at least. I do not think they needed a time skip for that. They were already pretty strong and the villains being so strong was just plot armor, nothing else. "My abilty cancels abilities!" Like, what? I do agree that Gray becoming 'good' again like the whole Sasuke thing would have been dumb, but it shouldn't have been built up in the first place. It ended up being pointless. Hero Academia has a lot of potential, I think, but it also doesn't. It doesn't have much set up, so far, for a major villain beyond what they have already. Once that guy is taken care of, which I assume he will be, then... what next? Possibly some underground villain no one has heard of, or maybe a time skip to set up more up-and-coming villains, but who knows? I'm looking forward to see where it's going. #31 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] Ah when I said the dead back to life I meant during the Pain arc when Kakashi had died and was brought back to life . Even so, I completely agree, I thought Haku and Zabuza should've stayed dead. It would've been nice to see reanimated Jiraiya in a way since Kishimoto decided to bring back most of the dead cast anyway. Naruto needed something big to end on, while the war fitted the criteria, it ended up being poorly executed and a huge disappointment. Everything that came after was quite nice except SasuSaku. Absolutely, I would've preferred Karin to have been her mother , probably would've been more interesting. It would seem Naruto has been milked dry. Just cringey/cheesy stuff I wrote when I was younger haha. Naruto was one of my first anime, I can't remember too well but I'm pretty sure it was the first anime that I understood was actually anime (that or Death Note) and was what really got me into anime. I mainly wrote short pairing fanfictions which were a few pages or so e.g. Kushina and Minato meeting. I ended up writing one about Naruto becoming the 6th Hokagewhen I was about a quarter through Shippuden, Hinata was his wife, Sasuke his right hand man, he had two children etc, it was actually pretty close to the manga weirdly enough. That was probably my longest one, I can't remember the page count but I was up to about 12 chapters on it. Wow that's pretty amazing! Do you post it online? Yeah, it was rushed I'm kind of biased because I love a good time skip, even if it may've been uneccesary I still enjoy seeing characters grow up and become bad ass. True, I'm just glad it didn't take up too many chapters. Sounds good, interesting too! I forgot to read your spoiler for your other post but yeah, I really hope there aren't any Sakura tier characters, I've had enough of useless female leads to last me a life time. #33 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Ah that. I was kind of okay with it in a way, because a lot of people would have been dead... Like, a lot of people. While it'd be good on paper, it'd kind of ruin the point of Naruto becoming Hokage if everyone in the village was dead. The fact that Jiraiya wasn't reanimated was pretty dumb, though. Understandable, but dumb. With a perv like that, there's no way Kabuto couldn't have got some of his DNA for the Jutsu. I was okay with SasuSaku in Canon because they deserved each other. A useless wanna-be with an over emotional child. Everything else was awful, though, even their child's name. Salad Uchiha. I would have preferred she just not exist, personally, but maybe that's too cruel. Haha, that's nothing to be ashamed of, I think! I had a looooot of awful stories. So many that when I finally hit the point of "Oh god, what have I been writing?" I just dropped that account and haven't associated myself with it since. But you didn't hear it from me. <(' '<) I do, actually. But it's a FemNaru story, because I find that writing female characters, especially Naruto for some reason, is easier for me. I think it's Ranma's faullt. That's the anime I grew up with. Here's a link to the story if you're interested. www.fanfiction.net/s/11245460/1/Tales-of-the-Kunoichi-Formation The uploaded version isn't 200 pages yet, because I'm "milestoning" it and writing about 25 pages before uploading the next chapter. That way I can edit things in the future if something goes wrong. But anyways..! So far with Hero Academia, the female characters have been pretty good. I especially like the personality of the gravity girl. The only real issue I've had with female characters has been the expressions some of them have, but that's just an art style choice, I guess. Specfically the picture of the "giant" woman at the start of the manga. The expression she has was just too weird, but I think he 'fixed' his art style after that... #38 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] I would've been sad at the loss of Kakashi. I'm conflicted in the sense that it'd be alot of deaths but even so I'm so used to him being such a moral good that I'd like to see how Naruto would've reacted to the slaughter of his village. I guess Jiraiya's body may not have been salvageable but after all they're ninjas and logic isn't really Kishimoto's thing anyway. Well I guess that works too, it was just annoying how far fetched it was. Salad and Bolt, we're in for a ride. Haha wow, I feel the same way about Sakura, I would've preferred Karin to be non existent but she kind of grew on me.. like some irritating mould. "Oh god, what have I been writing?" describes it perfectly, I used to read them after a few months, think "wtf is this", improve it to the point where it was acceptable only to read them a few months later and again think "wtf is this". The cycle is never ending! I'll keep it a secret Although I find writing as a male interesting I find writing as a female easier, ideas for their speech, mannerisms etc come easier to me. But yeah, I'm definitely interested! I'll read it tomorrow probably when I have some time. Ranma is by Takahashi isn't it? I've been meaning to watch Ranma and Inuyasha when I have time, I watched Kyoukai no Rinne while it was airing, although it was dull at times I've heard Ranma and Inuyasha are much more fast paced? Thank god for that. I'll probably read the manga before the anime starts to air, hopefully I'll enjoy it. While I can still watch/read something with a bad/annoying/strange art style, it's always a bonus to have eye porn. #182 -
ichigoichie (11/30/2015) [-] Terra Formars. If I remember correctly, humanity sent cockroaches to mars, over time the cockroaches mutated into dench, human killing machines. The story revolves around a group of young adults/adults going to mars to try to exterminate them, the cockroaches have become so overpowered that the group have to inject themselves to almost become pseudo bugs to fight against them. It's an alright anime, definitely not the best I've seen. The fight scenes are really well done and some of the back stories were really interesting. Only issue with the anime that I can remember, besides being boring at times, is that it has alot of censoring because of all the killing. If you're interested in watching it, season 2 will be aired sometime next year! It definitely wasn't just Kakashi that died, though he kind of falls off after that point too and the ending where he has both Sharingan for a brief, and completely unneeded, moment was pretty awful. Also, I think Kabuto actually said Jiraiya couldn't be revived because his body was under the lake in Ame, where Pain left him... Or something like that. Not like he didn't have unkillable minions to go get it for him, but whatever. Salad is just "what?" but Bolt apparently is Boruto and they just translated it literally. Either way, Boruto is an awful name and Kishi tried too hard to get it similar to Naruto. If anything, I think he should have been named Minato or Jiraiya. Y'know, to honor the fallen. I didn't like Karin after she falls for Sasuke's crap after he tries to kill her. Granted, I think it was plot armor that caused it and Kishi needing to rush to the end, but I felt like Karin would have fallen for Naruto with her 'his chakra is so warm' comments if Kishi had more room. It's pretty awful~ I mean, there was a point recently where I stumbled across one of my old stories. Let's just say even cringe comps on Funnyjunk don't make me cringe as much as seeing something you wrote when you were 11. Glad someone understands~ I do have a couple stories in mind where it's a male Naruto, but I definitely prefer female ones. Hope you enjoy reading it when you get the chance~ As for Ranma, yes, it is by Takahashi and it's a slightly underrated gem of the old days. It's cliche, but funny in a lot of ways and the action scenes are very well done. It can also get very deep and dark at points, but Takashi has a habit of tossing that aside for comedy in Ranma. She tries her hand at dark themes with Inuyasha and that one kind of went on forever. But Ranma is one of the animes I feel need a remake, an HD remake, like Sailor Moon Crystal... Though preferably with less plastic looking characters. But with Sailor Moon Crystal and Ushio + Tora being remade, it's possible Ranma has a chance for that too. Definitely not Inuyasha, though. That one is way too long. The art style isn't bad at all, the artist just has... weird faces sometimes. I especially like All Might's design. He's the best. #47 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] I can't remember it too well but the only one I can remember me not wanting to die was Kakashi. Ah well, what can you do. While Sarada just means Salad, when you put it with Uchiha it sounds similar to Sarada-yu aka cooking oil, although it's probably just a theory, Sasuke gave Sarada her name because she is the "oil" that will restart the flame of the uchiha. The meaning, if true, is quite cool but still.. salad. Boruto's name also has meaning supposedly, Bolt being similar to a lightning bolt in honor of his grandfather aka the flash. Jiraiya would've been my favourite though, anything meaningful that isn't boruto. I feel you! I probably will! I'll most likely give it a go, it sounds quite interesting and I haven't watched alot of decent comedy recently. There are so many anime I'd love to have the brotherhood treatment, soul eater being one of them. Have you been watching Ushio to Tora? It's long but either way I'll probably give it a go. That's alright then. Ah I've seen him, his design is real nice! #49 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] I think Salad was more of a play on the whole Tomato thing with the Uchiha. You don't put tomatoes in a salad, typically, but Uchiha were teased about having Tomato eyes or whatever early on. Kishi probably ignored that, though. Ranma is kind of old now, so some of the comedy might not have aged well, but I particuarly enjoyed it. The anime leaves out a lot of manga stuff, though. Like a couple arcs with semi-important characters. One character is a male Kunoichi that helps Ranma briefly later on. But you never see them in the anime, at all. Anywho, Kishi is really bad at romance stuff. The fact that people fell for Sasuke beyond the academy at all kind of proves that... And then the trip Hinata has at the end, instead of being there for Naruto, was just a slap in the face. Glad Hinata got with Naruto in the end, but with Kishi as the conductor, that train hit a lot of bumps. #52 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] That would make alot of sense. Shame Kishimoto never remembers half the stuff he's done/said in his work. Would you be able to compare the humour to any other show? Also would you suggest reading the manga, watching the anime or doing both? He's even admitted he doesn't get women or romance so I'm surprised we even got some half decentl romance. You'd think both Karin and Sakura would stop loving him for sure after he tried to kill them. I hope Hinata doesn't get shoved to the side as Naruto's wife, would be nice to see more of her as an adult. Also, what did you think of Kakashi's face reveal? #56 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] Yep. Like the Hyuuga thing. Didn't remember the Byakugan for Naruto's kids and forgot about the whole 'branch members' being slaves thing. Hmmn... I'm not sure. I can't really think of a show that has the same type of comedy. I will say you probably won't like the main female MC. She's okay at first, but it quickly gets old. As for suggestions... Again, I'm not sure. I personally started with the anime, but it leaves some stuff out... I'd say probably watch the anime just when you have nothing to do or are feeling lazy. The manga could probably wait until you finish an arc or maybe just the entire thing so you can find out what the anime left out. I think Hinata has been shoved aside completely since her attack on Pain. Kishi said something about making Hinata too much of the Heroine instead of Sakura, so he tried to push Sakura forward. But Sakura had nothing to go forward with. Only thing she did during the War was heal a bunch of nobodies and kill a few Zetzus. She just got in the way everywhere else. I think that... Kakashi should have just kept staying a mystery. The way he looks was always kind of expected, just a plain slightly handsome guy, but not knowing his face was part of his charm in my opinion. #59 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] The whole byakugan class system (?), not sure if that's what you'd call it, the history behind it and the actual byakugan was really interesting, I just wish it had been touched on more. Ah fair enough. As long as she isn't useless in any way and isn't mega cutesy then I'll be fine with her I guess. Yeah, I tend to watch long or old anime, excluding battle shounens, in my own time, Ranma sounds like it fits in that catagory. True, what annoys me with Hinata is that she only ever showed up when it was something to do with Naruto needing support or for comedic purposes. After the whole Hyuuga/Byakugan arc, she existed solely for the purpose of being one of Naruto's potential love interests. Sakura is just.. ugh, I really wanted to like her but she's just so irritating and useless. People say "oh, how can you hate on sakura, she's not useless since she became tsunade's apprentice etc, etc." but even though she has all this supposed great power she still get's in the way. At the end of the day, sure she saved a bunch of lives but did those lives really matter in the story? I guess she kept Naruto alive but that's the only time she was needed and that was only because Tsunade or Shizune wasn't available. Agreed. I felt disappointed that his face was generic and average but with a mole. I don't know how else Kishimoto would've done it so I'd rather it've just stayed a mystery. #60 -
bluemagebrilly (11/29/2015) [-] It got super dropped after the exams for Sasuke. It was sad. She's... kind of useless, but not mega cutesy. Just an old Tsundere. Ranma has a lot of combat in it, by the by, if that wasn't clear. But it's mostly a comedy. That's more or less it for both those, haha. I've been working on a story where Sakura gets her spark of determination in the spot she should have: When she fights those Sound Nin in the forest during the Chunin Exam. That was practically the only point where I felt excited to be watching Sakura fight... Then Lee jumped in and saved her anyways and she goes back to being useless. She had lots of potential, but it was executed poorly. I also don't think there's ever a point where she really saved Naruto during the war. The only one person I can say she 'saved' was probably Chiyo, but even then I'm not sure Sasori really would have stabbed her. So, I dunno. There's lots of characters like Sakura that Kishi dropped. Lots of potential, but just ignored or killed off. Like Tayuya. Loved Tayuya's character, for whatever reason, and there are some amazing stories with her in it, but in canon, she died way too quick. Genjutsu in general practically died with her too. Last Genjutsu thing I can recall is the Uchiha fight, and that fight, while slightly neat, was garbage overall with the outcome. Mostly because Sasuke had already reached the top tier of most hated characters, but still. #48 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] "It's like the post is made by hipsters who can't enjoy something because of their superior taste, rather than saying they're "shit" I'd say they're just anime that have gradually gotten worse and have awful fanbases." You got it, man. That's basically what it boils down to in the end. People don't like popular anime because one time they heard an 11 year old say "OMG SAO IS THE BEST ANIME EVER!" #143 -
anon (11/30/2015) [-] No, that's a fallacy. Sure there are contrarian dickweeds that call everything popular bad because that's just how they are. And anyone that describes something as "shit" and assumes that's an adequate analysis is always wrong (unless they're talking about actual shit). But if you are going to say that there are no problems with popular anime, especially battle/action shonen, especially in recent years, then you're just being a counter-contrarian. Or have not watched any of them and are just reacting to others reactions. Either way, you're either ignorant or a hypocrite. Anime is shit ≠The anime has problems. You're going to call me ignorant without even knowing what I actually think? Of course shonen anime isn't the best thing in the world. It's always been the same type of anime with different characters. I've watched all of One Piece and most of Naruto and I don't hate them. But it's still absurd to call something complete shit when it's not. People can say they really, really don't like a certain anime but it got made because people would watch it and like it. #10 -
ichigoichie (11/29/2015) [-] Exactly! While it really annoys me when I hear younger people say a popular shounen anime is the best e.g. Fairy tail, it's not because I believe they're utter shit and shouldn't be watched, it's because there are many more anime out there which they can watch and are probably better in general, doesn't mean to say popular anime is bad, if that was the case then One Punch Man would be awful. | ||

Ohhh I see, that seems a little cruel though if I'm understanding correctly, if they're accepted into the university but don't get into the program it must be upsetting despite there being other similar courses.
In the UK you apply for 5 courses at universities, they'll either accept or decline you based on target grades and potential, if accepted you have a place on that course, as long as you get the required grades they offered you then you're in. Is it like that in Canada?

ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-] Hmm, they accept/decline you when applying to the uni for the program. I had ~90% average in last grade of highschool, so I had no problem getting in.
Then when selecting your major is another place where they can accept or decline you. So, it can be upsetting.

The first stage you go through is basically the whole process for the UK it seems. How long is your course?
You'll get through it, its one more year where you don't have to work
My course is 4 years but 1 year is placement

Ah no, I guess what I said was badly worded. I meant that three courses I've been accepted for are 4 years. I'm still at school for around 6 months.
Yeah I'm only 17 at the moment
I've applied for 3 courses because I wasn't entirely sure about what I wanted to do, I originally applied for psychology, crime scene investigation and computer science with forensics, after I applied I realised that I didn't want to do psychology so I have 3 out of 5 universities I'm realistically looking at choosing.

Whether the modules they provide interest me, the student ranking, the country ranking, what the uni looks like e.g. accommodation, their facilities, reviews, distance from home etc.
Eh really?
Yeah I'm good thanks, just doing exams and stuff

They're mock exams but they're still fairly important, if you do bad on them you get shoved onto a timetable to help you or get made to do extra classes/sessions. I also don't want to face the wrath of my teachers. Saying all that I probably should've revised a lot more, it wouldn't surprise me if I've done terribly.
Uh I think semesters are school terms right? In that case we started one at the beginning of January. Not sure when my next one starts.
Anyway how've you been?

Nice, nice. That'll be fun, is it hard having a long distance relationship?
Sounds good, are you in education still?

ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-] Ehh, at certain times... Will admit that the relationship would have been way better if I was actually there.
But aside from that, at least for me. It hasn't been hard at all. We've been at it for a bit over a year now, and as time passes, it becomes easier.
And yea, just took the year off. Cause of certain choices I made the previous year (trying to skip out on additional fees), it wouldn't have been convenient for me to take that year of studies.

That's pretty sweet, glad it's working out for you anyway. Do you ever plan to move there if it gets more serious?
Sounds complicated even though it probably isn't haha, what are fees like on average for university in Canada (That is where you live isn't it?)

ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-] I want her to move here first, as it's easier for a American to become a Canadian than a Canadian to become an American. But eventually would want to move there.
Okay, so where I am, the university costs about $7000/year.
If you're in a 'deregulated' program, you have to have good grades and pay an extra fee, the extra fee depends on the program. Commerce (business) is about $10k extra. So instead of paying $7k, you pay $17k per year.
And you choose your program/major starting second year. So knowing this I was like, that is totally not good (I knew there was an additional cost, but not that much). So come second year, I picked my major as Astronomy (just some random program so that they don't charge me extra). But while there, I took all business related courses, except for 2, which are exclusive for that program. Which I was planning to take that summer. (That way I would have only paid the regular fee, and come summer I would start paying the higher fee)
But due to switching in and out of commerce, I missed my chance to take the course in the summer, since I wasn't able to get into the program in time, which lead me to get into the program right before normal classes started. But I did not want to, because then I would have taken the year 2 courses that I missed, which are prerequisites for courses that I would have for the next two years, so would have been a waste...

Ah you learn something new everyday! Hope it works out for you.
Jesus christ $7k is so cheap! $17k is a lot closer to how much my course will cost though, seems reasonable in comparison even though asking that much for university is theft.
Unlucky, still too complicated even though you gave me a good explanation haha, maybe because I'm too tired, I got the jist of it though.

That's only £970 holy **** ! Is that per year or are you speaking monthly, if it's per year then wow, lucky!!
Pretty much every full-time course here is £9,000 although there are a few exclusions where it can be up to £11,000 because it's a more prestigious university or a harder degree.
Do you have to pay yourself or can you apply for student finance?

That's insane, would you consider that cheap or expensive?
Interesting, we get student finance which is split into course costs, accomodation costs and a maintenance loan to live pretty much. How much you get all depends on how much your parents earn, whether you have children, a disability etc. All the money is payed back naturally but in monthly sums relative to how much you're earning.

True but for something so cheap there must be a downside..
Is the teaching poorer or are they lower ranking universities?
Do you stay in accommodation or do you commute?

Ah how unusual, do you mean as in 1000 students for all the courses, or 1000 students are accepted into the university who've applied solely to your program?
ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-] 1000 who've applied for the program. Thing is, they have other similar courses that are more open for everyone, so pretty much the 700 who don't make the cut will either take another year in hopes of getting their grades up, or go for one of the similar programs that don't have that requirement.

I'm ashamed to say it was! I've been meaning to watch them for god knows how many years but I kept putting it off, finally decided today was the day!

A young calligrapher basically gets told his work is "textbook" by an old man at the gallery out of anger he punches him and gets told to go sort himself out. The calligrapher goes to a really remote island thats full of country folk and he finds a new style of calligraphy. It's just really funny and light hearted to me, the story is unique and doesn't take over the show. I don't usually like comedy slice of life anime but this one is really good imo.

Just be sure to include sources on your comps and you should be good. Also, how long does it take you to make the comps, if you dont mind me asking?

It depends, I can't exactly specify a time because I gather all the facts on a specific subject roughly 150-200 on wider subjects e.g. anime in general or around 50 for anime specific comps e.g. naruto, then I gather pictures for each fact and resize them all so they're the same then randomly allocate a fact to a comp so all that can take up to 4 days but once all my comps are preset it takes around 10/20 minutes to upload and stuff
ONLINE (02/24/2015) [-] Alright, when you gather them, include the sources beneath you fact
IE:
-DragonBall is one of the best anime
tridaak.com/dragonballfact
-Attack on titan used to be really good, but now it sucks
aotmanga.com/readhowmuchitsucks
then when uploading the comp, you put the facts underneath (like on the very last description or something). People can then check where you got your facts from, and you can get OC rewards.

Really all we want is some sort of evidence that you went around and looked for the facts. (Way I showed follows all rules and is pretty simple)
