I'm gonna put it to you this way, art movements : the renaissance, impressionism, cubism, surrealism, romantic movement. Know what they all have in common? It's not America. America has contributed less than practically any other country in terms of it's arts, y'know the stuff that requires imagination. America tends to be better at technological achievements, moon landing, micro processors, etc. And that's the irony of it.
