Oh I'm sorry am I dehumanizing you?
I'll just say you're human and were equals and not bother to learn about you or define you as an individual.

No they aren't defining you as a religion. By associating yourself as a member of a religion YOU are the one who is defining yourself. And aside from that, I hardly think being associated with a group is loosing your identity. It's like i asked earlier, "can I ask you what your political views without you flipping out?" Being conservative would associate you with a group, or being liberal would. Wouldn't that also be losing your identity?

Well, religion has always been used as a front to manipulate the masses. Not saying it started as a front, but there are those who use religion to fulfill selfish, ulterior motives. There are so many religions with so many different beliefs; it would be a bit ignorant to say that every single one tells you to be good to your neighbors, yourself, and the world. For some people, the world can be a very scary place, full of death, war, starvation, etc. At times, only religion can provide these people with the solace they need to continue living. When you live by a code, a way of life that makes you feel safe and significant, you are likely to take offense when others bash your beliefs. Thus, you have the sensitivity and lashing out as a result of religious arguments. By making society and the world a safer place for people to live in without constant fear of war, disease, or famine; people will be less critical of what they and others believe in.

It's also impossible, because we can never change all humans like this, and as long as people are acting with unhappiness there will be problems that can only be dealt with causing the same, and otherwise, animals, natural disasters and accidents would still cause similar problems.

Besides, honestly, I really find the world a better place without everyone being happy, because happiness feels much better after times of sadness, and overcoming problems, where the majority has unhappiness of some sort involved, feels amazing and it's an important part of developing us.

Because when the main character is changed, he also feels as though he has been reborn because he is simply so different, and the way he is changed isn't caused by any specific people, so he feels like his new self doesn't have any parents.

You are never forced to disclose you beliefs, especially in a work environment. Pretty much every form I have ever filled out has the option "I choose not to answer" or something else along those lines. Usually when you are asked on forms what your religion is, especially government forms, it provides information for a census. Information that is then used by countless institutions for any number of reasons, usually education.
Some people enjoy debating their religions with others. If you lurk long enough around here, you'd realize we all have different opinions, and we may even be at each others throats most of the time, but we enjoy in the end. Getting our voices heard does not hinder our beliefs, it evolves them. Religion doesn't cause any of the hate, people do.

Im speaking more towards times when it doesnt lead to a discussion, times when it leads to arguments, and hate. Why do i have to tell my boss what religion i am, will he not hire me because i dont follow his beliefs? I am a human and so is everyone else, how i choose to worship and respect my god should not affect how i am treated in life. And not just me, everyone.

Curiosity still, it's about knowing just a little more about your friends. Also, a lot of religions are about spreading the word about themselves, so a lot of people don't really mind. Religion might be sacred, but that doesn't mean they have to be incredibly private.

Also, a lot of people, like me, find it fun to talk about religion, not necessarily argue, but just talk, and it has provided me with lots of great conversation.

And i follow many teachings of Jesus Christ, in my own opinion he was the closest to a perfect human, and he taught man to be respectful and to be caring and how to love others, and i accept Jesus as a role but i am not a christian because christian beliefs are not helping me become respectful. Shouldn't you be spreading religion to help people live better lifes?
User avatar #16744 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
But well anyways, a lot of Christians, for example, spread their religion because they believe it is the truth, and it says that anyone who doesn't do this gets sent to hell for all eternity, so they're just trying to save us from an eternity in hell.
Also, please stop acting like making conversation is a crime, not absolutely every single action done by every single person in this world has to be about making others happy.

Oh by the way i was wondering and going to ask before, what does "Orphan" have to say about humanity? Is it criticizing or praising?
User avatar #16748 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
Oh, it's not about humanity in that sense, it's about the main characters humanity, as an event early in the story changes him in a way that constantly makes him grow less human.
User avatar #16749 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
Being a Sci-Fi you mean literally less human right? Like a creature?
User avatar #16750 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
More like a machine actually, but yes.
User avatar #16752 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
Why is it called orphan?
User avatar #16754 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
Because when the main character is changed, he also feels as though he has been reborn because he is simply so different, and the way he is changed isn't caused by any specific people, so he feels like his new self doesn't have any parents.

The name has been changed now, but what I said is still part of the story.
User avatar #16756 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]

Rust, which is a metaphor for a place they will spend a large part of the story.

And he is also a machine and most machines are made of metal and metal does rust. Clever. They? Are the others that comprise "they" the same as the character, or compassionate for him? Or are they the people making his life difficult?
User avatar #16762 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
That's actually quite clever, however no part of him literally does become mechanical, it could be a good metaphor for his mind, thank you for that.
They are compassionate for him, you could say.

User avatar #16766 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
No, I don't think I'd be very good at it.
User avatar #16745 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
But if it is not making people happy then it makes them unhappy does it not? And then if you are making people unhappy what type of person are you? And i do not think conversation is a crime, we are having a conversation right now and i am enjoying it because i am being treated equal, and being respected and i am happy.
User avatar #16751 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
The thing is that we're not in a world based on happiness, we all wish we were but were not, and therefor everything can't be solved without getting down.
For example, if a bully punched me, I'd punch back, that'd make the bully unhappy, but it wouldn't make me a worse person.
User avatar #16753 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
And the reason were in an unhappy world is because we as humans are choosing this life! Only we can change it, because only we have caused this, thats what im calling for, what im asking for, what im demanding, that people can just be accepting, kind, friendly and loving, its so much easier than youd think and believe me youll be alot happier
User avatar #16759 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
It's also impossible, because we can never change all humans like this, and as long as people are acting with unhappiness there will be problems that can only be dealt with causing the same, and otherwise, animals, natural disasters and accidents would still cause similar problems.

Besides, honestly, I really find the world a better place without everyone being happy, because happiness feels much better after times of sadness, and overcoming problems, where the majority has unhappiness of some sort involved, feels amazing and it's an important part of developing us.
User avatar #16761 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
Of course we cannot stop sadness and anger, but we can suppress much of the aggression and hate, which are not the same as sadness and anger.

I was getting at the point that people are saying " are you jewish or christian ? " as if that makes you a different person, we are all humans, no matter what we believe and should all accept each other as equal humans, and religion shouldn't change that.
User avatar #16786 - kingnarnode (03/21/2013) [-]
asking if someone is jewish or christian doesn't imply that I think they are any less human
User avatar #16787 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]

That's how you sound
User avatar #16788 - kingnarnode (03/21/2013) [-]
No they aren't defining you as a religion. By associating yourself as a member of a religion YOU are the one who is defining yourself. And aside from that, I hardly think being associated with a group is loosing your identity. It's like i asked earlier, "can I ask you what your political views without you flipping out?" Being conservative would associate you with a group, or being liberal would. Wouldn't that also be losing your identity?

Besides all those people who call themselves Christians and Jews, of course...
User avatar #16740 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
My point is why are people calling themselves that! We are humans, you're a human not a religion, people are loosing their amazing identities to something that has become something that causes more harm than good.
User avatar #16741 - omnomnipotent (03/21/2013) [-]
How is discussing your religion to someone harmful?
User avatar #16743 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
Im speaking more towards times when it doesnt lead to a discussion, times when it leads to arguments, and hate. Or times when im filling out an application or a test, they want to know what i believe, why does that matter? Why do i have to tell my boss what religion i am, will he not hire me because i dont follow his beliefs? I am a human and so is everyone else, how i choose to worship and respect my god should not affect how i am treated in life. And not just me, everyone.
User avatar #16755 - omnomnipotent (03/21/2013) [-]
User avatar #16758 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
YES THAT IS MY POINT. Did you think i was attacking religion? I'm sorry if i made it that way, what i was trying to discuss was that people have turned something so great into a battle, a competition, for global dominance and superiority. Isn't religion supposed to be about being a better person for you and your neighbors? It is supposed to better the world and make people happy but what has it become, a nightmare that people are getting sensitive about and casuing more harm.
User avatar #16767 - omnomnipotent (03/21/2013) [-]
User avatar #16736 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
It's a question of curiosity, just like as anyone ''Hey, are you Danish or Swedish?'' you're not calling them a country, or a religion, you're curious about them

Also, about the whole thing about walking down the street and giving hugs, a couple of friends of mine made signs that translate to: ''You are a wonderful person living in a wonderful day!'' And walked around the streets hugging everyone they met and said: ''You're a fantastic person.''
So obviously, it's already happening.
User avatar #16737 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
But why has it become socially acceptable to ask these questions? Why is it that people feel obligated to ask? I thought religion was sacred
User avatar #16739 - reretzu (03/21/2013) [-]
Curiosity still, it's about knowing just a little more about your friends. Also, a lot of religions are about spreading the word about themselves, so a lot of people don't really mind. Religion might be sacred, but that doesn't mean they have to be incredibly private.

Also, a lot of people, like me, find it fun to talk about religion, not necessarily argue, but just talk, and it has provided me with lots of great conversation.
User avatar #16742 - icaruslives (03/21/2013) [-]
