I thought that they couldn't technically secede, but they have the right to split into five different states. At least that's what my history teacher was saying on Wednesday when we had a discussion about it in class.
He's been wrong about other things so I'm not entirely sure this is true.

according to their constitution they are free to leave the union whenever they please. maybe the 5 states thing is true too but they are also free to leave at their owl leisure

well technically its not in the constitution but it says that the state only has to listen to the constitution which is silent on the matter so it can do whatever it wants with it. And that's how legal documents work! lol
