If GCSE's are exams given to high school students to place them into college, it'd be close to our ACT and SAT tests. I never took the SAT (I think my school is in the minority there) but we did take the ACT. The scores for the ACT go up to 36 (100%) and 20 is the average score. If I recall correctly, 24 is where the top 25% starts... I was still in my lazy stage of life during high school and didn't try as much as I should have on the test but still got a 25 so idk.
Since I never had to take the SAT, I don't know about how they got scored, but my uni requires a minimum 3.0 GPA or a 22 on the ACT, or a 2.7 GPA with a 19 ACT to get in.

Ah, GCSE's and A-Levels (what you need to get into uni in UK) are marked using letters, A to U (basically you failed if you had a U). GCSE's only really get you into 6th form or college. I got mostly B's which was enough to get me into 6th form (mainly where people went after high school to get A-Levels to go to uni). There I did maths and IT, this is where I got lazy and it meant i failed maths, did get an IT qualification. Was a pretty stupid move back then, thinking I could just wing it which didn't go so well.

Was able to get into college with the GCSE's i had, I went to what I'd call a community college, those who didn't do so well in GCSE's might come here to retake, only there because it was the closet to me doing the course I wanted. Was able to lay back a bit because of the course type here.

I think it varies with uni's here but from what I remember while applying, uni's would decide whether you were accepted either through getting say 3 A grades or converting these grades to a UCAS score which is so those who did alternative courses to A-Levels could get into uni through the same process, i think my uni wanted 300 and i got 420

Ok, couldn't you just have interned or something in one of the companies that's involved with that? Or is it like learning to weld where the short education would pay itself off?

Also, doing what OP did in the post may be fine for that field, but it's definitely much harder to do in other fields. I would not have made it through my Calculus 2 or Calc Based Physics if I had the same lifestyle as I did with my business courses (quit business during my first year to go into engineering).

That was something i considered but i felt uni would give a good step into the industry. The uni I'm at has good contacts for getting placements and part of the course is to get experience so along with some education i will be getting experience.

I get what you mean, while doing GCSE's (not sure American equivalent) the lazy life style wasn't really an option unless you wanted to fail. The college course that got me to uni wasn't exam based (coursework instead) meaning i was able to lay back a fair amount as the work was spread out.
I agree it is alot harder in other fields, i remember while doing the college course, other friends i knew were stressing over exams and all the revising needed, even during GCSE's it was a lot of stress over a 2 week period.
