Sannukas is correct in saying that the 280x is quite a bit better than the 280, but if you can go for the 280x, just grab a GTX 770 (unless you're a Battlefield 4 fan). The performance is, on average, better.
User avatar #8966 - voltkills (05/30/2014) [-]
and more money....
User avatar #8967 - Mortuus (05/30/2014) [-]
Negative, ghost rider. You can grab a 770 for about the same price as a nice 280x.
User avatar #8968 - voltkills (05/30/2014) [-]
its a tiny bit more then the sapphire r9 280x's, and noticeably more expensive then an MSI r9 280x, for probably an unnoticeable performance increase. it also has only 2gb rma vs. to 280xs 3GB. and according to amazon pulls 600 watts which is a fuckton more then my GPU which is better
User avatar #8969 - Mortuus (05/30/2014) [-]
500w would cook the GPU. Its TDP is 230.

While you're correct in the price regard, the MSI r9 280x didn't get great reviews. I'd rather pay an extra $10-$20 for better build quality.
User avatar #8970 - voltkills (05/30/2014) [-]
well the prices must be lower over there, here its minimum $50-ish more and at most $100 more, and still has less ram. but yea i wouldnt even get an R9 series, theyve not had great reviews, 79XX is good.
User avatar #8971 - Mortuus (05/30/2014) [-]
If I recall correctly the 280x is just a 7970, so yeah.
User avatar #8964 - sannukas (05/30/2014) [-]
I'd say go for the 280X if you have the money.
The difference between them is about 10-20 fps in most games.
#8963 - anonymous (05/30/2014) [-]

User avatar #176 - dribble (05/26/2014) [-]
That is bloody awesome. It amazes me how people such as yourself can do things like this. By the way, you wouldn't happen to have any time lapse or in-depth guide as to how to do something like that would you? I've recently made the transition from pencil and paper to computer Downloaded Paint Tools Sai recently. and have no idea how to do things like that Like getting your lines and shading to look so perfect. And those eyes, I wish I could draw eyes like that. Anyway, awesome stuff.
#227 - twoderrick (05/26/2014) [-]
Here is a basic way to do eyes that makes them look great. Color selection though is a big deal.
User avatar #434 - dribble (05/27/2014) [-]
Thanks for that. Damn, don't know enough Japanese yet to read that. Not that I think it is needed, I'd just like to be able to.
User avatar #219 - eanirae (05/26/2014) [-]
You should have yourself a pad - not sure what the correct word is. Like a drawing pad that you connect to the computer, and then get a program. Such as Paint Tools Sai, as you said you have.

That's the first step and then it's practice. I've got myself a program, a pad and now I just need to practice, with a goal in, what stuff I want to draw.
User avatar #422 - dribble (05/27/2014) [-]
I've heard about those, I'd like one, I just don't have the money. Well, I think I have the money, I just wouldn't spend it on something like that I have other things I need more urgently.. I'm just drawing in my free time, and these days, Uni isn't giving me a lot. But thanks for the advice. Once I get more money and time, I think I might get one.
User avatar #437 - eanirae (05/27/2014) [-]
It certainly takes some getting used to, but the one I have is a Bamboo Manga (hue, manga what a weeabo), but it's great to have, once you've gotten used to it.
User avatar #438 - dribble (05/27/2014) [-]
I just looked up the Bamboo Manga, and it looks pretty awesome. Makes drawing on a computer look a lot easier. By the way, just wondering, what kind of stuff do you draw?
User avatar #440 - eanirae (05/27/2014) [-]
I'm still very new to drawing, so I'm trying all kinds of stuff - females, males, dragons, buildings. I am just trying to find out, what my drawing style is.
User avatar #446 - dribble (05/28/2014) [-]
Oh, well good luck. I think drawing things that are alive is pretty difficult. Although that is just me, I mainly just draw landscapes and city scapes.

#89 - twoderrick (05/26/2014) [-]
No low quality as in no shading, no texture on the color, no background,
But I made this generic snowy background for it.

well I have not heard many issues with the 280. as for newegg, you don't have to use them, you might find it cheaper elsewhere in fact. I just use them for a quick price reference. also I have not had issue with there return service... although it did cost me $11 to send back my mouse, eliminating the sale price I had got for it. :/

Only issue I could see is if you got it and it doesn't overclock, that isn't covered under anything for a return. and the drivers might still have a few quarks but I think for the most part this series of AMD and Nvidia are pretty stable now.

If you can find one in your price range or are comfortable/able to wait for the rebate then I would say find a good R9 280. The 760 and 280 are close but the 280 does pull ahead enough and is usually a little cheaper making it a great choice.

so it goes R9 270x > Nvidia 760 > R9 280
it's ultimately up to you, but I would recommend saving just a few extra dollars here and there, shouldn't take long and get the 280. if you must have it now, the 270X will suffice and game well.
always make sure it has a good cooler too, and plenty of airflow. js
