They look to me like they hunt or were hunters in their time.

Hunting is a pretty manly sport.

killing things =/= manly

Sorry but real hunting, bows and arrows, spears, thats kinda manly. but sitting in a truck or on a chair, and using technology to sling bits of metal at an animals head is pretty fucking lame.
#85 - ninjabadger (06/28/2015) [-]
Did you know some hunters use bows/crossbows?

Also there's trapping.

A lot of hunting requires patience and a willingness to get dirty and last in the wilds. Skinning animals and the such is considered manly, as it's pretty messy work. I should know, my uncle hunts a lot and I went through some hunting training. Also guns are typically considered manly in some regard, at least knowing the know how of gun care and proper usage. Particularly the ones used in hunting are of a finer quality of weaponry on the scales of manliness (that civilians can get their hands on easily).

theres nothing manly about sitting a safe distance away and putting a bullet in somethings head so it cant stop you or fight back and youre in no harm
thats faggy and cowardly

like a couple months back when that poacher got killed by the elephant he failed to kill...the elephant was teaching his bitch ass a lesson

I suppose that's a way of thinking about it...

We're not equipped to go hand to hand with animals sadly, our weapon is our minds... which weapons are a fruit of that labor. Might not be fair, as intellect is a deadly weapon... but that's nature. The big dogs have the easiest time killing.

We kill a lot of animals to help them, because they overpopulate and cause unneeded suffering on themselves and other species. I don't approve of hunting animals for any other reason really, like hunting lions and shit in the "wilds" of Africa. I can agree on that front.

Hunting for food is also good and manly, as a traditional value of bringing the breadbasket home is manly.

#101 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
well mankind used to be good at physical efforts...just the more technology we build the more people live off it and soften up every generation so now we're by and large fucked as a species
man does have the capacity for strength of mind but taking a step back....it doesnt take much grey matter to sit at a safe distance and aim a rifle at something

SOME animals are culled to keep their numbers from damaging their ecosystem....but for others....its just sociopaths killing for the sake of killing
ones like bears, lions, tigers, etc...they dont produce large numbers yet fags still think "theyre hunters" when they snipe them off

pretty much if youre not hunting for food or population control...youre a headcase

Just one minute.
While I agree with the majority of your post (sans the "humanity is fucked" part, because the worst of humanity won't drag the rest of us down with them), I have to disagree with your saying that killing bears is done without reason.
Bears are dangerous animals (mostly black bears and polar bears, but grizzly bears are easily "provoked" into being dangerous), and they tend to roam large areas. If one enters a town, it poses a threat to the town's inhabitants. If one wanders onto a farm, it poses a threat to any animals it encounters, as bears are omnivores. If a bear happens upon a campground, it poses a threat to any humans in the campground.
I don't think it's acceptable to track down bears that have never harmed people or a person's property. I do think it's acceptable to shoot a bear that's walking down Main Street. It's acceptable to kill a bear that gets through the fence to your cows. And it's fine to shoot a bear that's about to rip open your tent.
It's also fine to do what you will with the remains of the bear you killed. Have its pelt made into a hat, eat its heart to gain its strength, whatever. The worst thing you could do would be to just leave it to rot.
#148 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
well for bears thats an issue of protecting other people or animals...not "killing it because it exists" like the psychos do when they go out to the animals territosy looking for a kill

#102 - ninjabadger (06/28/2015) [-]
I agree with you on that entirely.

I'm saying there's some good manly qualities to hunting... but others present a false machismo, like the lion hunting we both provided as examples.

Take it as you will. Also I'm trying to say we're not naturally gifted for combat. Sure we have a lot of stamina and can survive wounds a lot better than most animals... and our physical makeup can have advantages in combat... but strength alone won't win against tooth and nail. A lot of animals also have speed or raw power, and they don't have morality to tie them down as we do. We need weapons to take on most threats (even thinking on ancient hunting with spears) on equal ground. Sadly this also gives us a lot more flexibility and inevitably an advantage over animals. A good tool is good, but a good tool in a great mind's hands is a great one.
#103 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
well thats where mankind used to have balls and adopt themes bsed off nature

hmmm a turtle has a shell...ill make some armor....hey some animals have sharp claws...let me grab a bladed weapon
hmmm this animal is pretty fast...let me work out and improve my agility

or if you saw that movie apocalypto....setting up that spike trap so when something chases you. you jump over the vine setting it up...when they step on it out pops out some spikes and impale the beast
hunters are people who face their prey

Do you know how the stone age hunters used to hunt? It was almost never one bloke heading out with a spear to 1v1 an animal, most of the time, a large group of peopl would herd an entire herd of animals into a narrow canyon and fling spears and rocks from a safe distance, or they would drive them off a cliff. Much the same as flinging a tiny lead object at over the speed of sound from a safe distance. Only the technology and manpower required has changed. Guns are not cowardly, they are merely efficient.
#105 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
yeah that wasnt manly either
that was outnumbering the animals and herding them into their deaths

by your logic....1939-45 made germany manly
User avatar
#111 - fourfangedferret (06/28/2015) [-]
But they didnt outnumber the animals. The herds would be in the hundreds, if not thousands during the breeding season when they were hunted, and there would only be maybe one or two humdred hunters. And i didnt say a damn thing about manliness, i talked about efficiency. Nebulous concepts about manliness be damned, if im hungry, im going to use the best equipment i have to fix that. If i have a rifle, then thats what im going to use, neither i nor the animal im hunting will give a pinch of shit how "manly" other people think it is.
#112 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
well therein lies the end answer "if youre hungry" aka only doing real hunting for FOOD
the sickos who kill things for other reason arent hunters

but what if youre in a position where you dont have your gun, like no ammo or it doesnt work....what will you do?
User avatar
#121 - fourfangedferret (06/28/2015) [-]
Then i will go with the next most efficient method whether it be bow, trap or spear. I dont care which method i use. The only thing i give a shit about is whether i eat or not. Being "manly" has precisely nothing to do with it. People that whine about guns being "cowardly" or hunting being "unnecesary" have never gone hungry in their lives. Guns merely increase my chances of taking down my prey. No more, no less. If i had to, i would grab a freshly birthed fawn just so me and mine could eat. You could make the same argument about scentless soap. "hurr durr you should go after animals smelling like apex predators, you dont need scentless soap". But you didnt. Why? Because the argument is utterly rediculous. I agree about hunting lions and other trophy animals, it shouldnt be done, but if i need to feed my family, i will take every step necesary, regardless of what people think.
#127 - falloutsurvivor (06/28/2015) [-]
well getting back to the original argument here, as lazaman put it....sitting back and relying on technology to do the work for you, mean you arent manly

for ones like you it just comes down to a grey re of 'using guns makes one less of a man but a real man provides for his family'......so youre kinda a pro can con in one

Hands down the most uninformed description of modern hunting I've ever heard.

But I don't think killing something makes you a man.

Also care to fill me in.
What is REAL modern hunting.
