Isaac's not doing things for the sake of being good, he's just trying to survive.

I might be wrong though, currently halfway through Dead Space 2 in the series

Couldn't finish 3. The atmosphere was still pretty good and so was production quality but by the third game I was simply bored of Dead Space

#148 - legionofmudkip (12/30/2015) [-]
Only two horror games. 2 and 3 were more action/gore than anything
#124 - zmranger (12/30/2015) [-]
Exactly. Dead Space and Dead Space: Extraction. Everything else is SPANISH INQUISITION!!!

That's about it up until DS3, and without spoiling anything he only kinda does things for good in 3.

so uh, did you play 3 on pc? i've been trying to get it to work but it simply won't.

Yeah I was doing a playthrough with a buddy but we never really finished it, but I never had a problem with running it.

when i downloaded it initially, i was able to open it but the moment i changed the resolution from like 640 to 1080p, it blackscreened and tabbed out. that's what happens every time i try to open it now.

#142 - ztron (12/30/2015) [-]
That's pretty weird, not to be that guy but have you tried googling the problem to see what's up?
User avatar
#143 - unlithe (12/30/2015) [-]
its kind of amazing to me that some people don't google their problem before asking other people. yes, i have googled it and returned with nothing useful

No wonder I've heard it's shit

In all seriousness, the real reason I heard it's shit it because it became less about horror, and more shooty mctooty, coming for the booty

#132 - unlithe (12/30/2015) [-]
well that isn't necessarily a bad thing. i think dead space was meant to change from a horror game into an action game through the games. seems like that is supposed to signify that isaac has already dealt with that shit before and isn't scared of the necromorphs. sorry for rambling, just woke up
#111 - cigma (12/30/2015) [-]
Also some parts of the game felt like a chore, though you could roll to avoid attacks, with was cool for a while.
#87 - yoshtar (12/30/2015) [-]
yeah, pretty much... yeah.

with the addition of a friend who is making the dead Necros recreate the singing frog from the looney tunes with kinesis (unfortunately, not a true story), and the lack of much/any suspense, the only thing that might be called "horror" are those 'oh shit' moments, like "fuck, there's TWO hunter Necros in here."... thanks to universal ammo, you can't even say it's a survival game any more, since, unless you're doing things horribly wrong you'll never run out... like, fuck, I stopped to shoot every single one dead (barring the ones you can't kill, like Hunters), with a minigun no less, and never ran dry, or was able to fabricate more ammo.

the closest I've seen it get to right and true horror is when you're trying to sneak past the Feeders without killing any for the achievement.

The Crafting System is nice though... and they put together Legacy mode for Dead Space purists who want to only be able to use classic schematics.
and, Thankfully, they don't force you to play with a bot in singleplayer.

TL;DR, Dead Space 3 went the way of Resident Evil 5, which is why every says it sucks donkey ass.
#171 - nightmarexnxnxnxnx (12/30/2015) [-]
Both resident evil 5 and dead space 3 were fucking sweet though. Hell, I would even like RE6 if the characters and the dialogue weren't so god-awfully written. But I value them as action rich experiences, because I am already horror proof.

I mean, have already lost my sense of fear concerning video games long time ago. As long as you can keep your head cool even in worst kind of situations, you no longer have anything to be afraid of. Gore? Been there, done than. Body horror? Disgusting, but not scary. Zombies? Shoot them in the head. Fast moving monsters? Shotgun does it all.

Practically the only thing that would probably scare me are games about ghosts like fatal frame, as the concept of not being able to fight them would scare the shit out of me, and spiders, because their concept of hunting and preying is one of the most disgusting and scary things I can imagine.

TL;DR horror games are redundant nowadays anyway because your average seasoned has grown too resistant against most stuff game directors can throw at them.
#109 - elistrea (12/30/2015) [-]
I agree with most of the things everyone is saying here, the game was pretty much gutted of horror. I still really enjoyed how John would have hallucinations that Isaac couldn't see. I played with a friend and the experience was a whole lot better, describing what each of us could see.
I actually liked RE5 though...

Yeah there are parts with you shooting up unitology mercs, and the spookiness is even less than in 2, along with every gun using the same ammo. Plus there's micro-transactions for the materials needed to craft guns and health items if you care about that tidbit.
