I completely agree. Absolutely loved that whole game and every aspect of it. Though I do like the armor abilities of 4, but holy shit those armor designs are absolutely hideous in 4.

I beat the campaign like 4-5 times lol. And yea, the new Spartan armor looks ridiculous. Looks like they just put on a spandex suit and tape on random contoured chunks of metal.

and i dont die to the early mobs anymore at all but it still wont change the fact that their hitboxes are broken and their attacks home at you. and the homing is bad because its cheap, unfair and most of all stupid design choise that is used to compensate for crappy ai design. and yes. most of the people going through the royal sentinels usually dont panic and dodge to the main arena....and even if you kill the first one solo you still face two of them with unlimited stamina and ludicrous poise

and ds 1 had one cheap boss design and that was the taurus demon wich gave you no time to look around, and bombarded you with mobs.

the music varied. plus the overall style was more recognizable. most of the boss fights in ds2 use the same song that is something of a mash up of artorias and smoughstein fight soundtrack.

also do tell me on how fair and fun the royal sentinels boss fight was. or how looking glass knight could not home at you like a chosen undead seeking missile with his jump.

and the torch system was more of a killing off a great gimmick for the game because some beta testers whined about not having shields(the game was A LOT darker before release, forcing people to use torch a lot more)

and its not the fact that you can get npc.its because the npc had no other role in the game than being there to help you kill a boss if you cant get proper help. also most bosses in ds1 could kill you.but its usually smart to avoid their attacks instead of seeing how much dmg they do.

and anor londo and ornstein boss fights may have been hard. but they were fair.

you had two bosses. one of them had lower health. you could summon an extremely overpowered npc to help if you had trouble with it, and the pillars added a nice cover to go for.

meanwhile fights like royal sentinel rushes you with 3 bosses if you arent fast enough.and it also drops you into the fight with no time to prepare for what is coming. the smelter demon was notably broken with his hitboxes, move set and defense. rat king was a boring reskin of sif with added mobs wich was more of an annoyiance than fun fight.

and thats not even talking about the revisited bell tower gargoyles wich basicly zerg rushes you with 5 of the gargoyles. and that ends up with badly placed rush of 1 invader and 10 fucking dogs.

also mob balancing was also shit, they had unlimited stamina and nearly never got stunned, they also made shitload of damage and their attacks homed at you like a undead seeking missile. not to mention there was shitload of them in every corner.

The last time I fought Looking Glass Knight I didn't get hit once. I still don't see what's such a big deal about the 'homing'. Royal Sentinels only rushes you with all 3 if you're a dingus and you jump down from the ledge straight away, and there is no boss fight in any Dark Souls where you know what's coming without needing to look at a walkthrough. As for preparation, in both DS1 and DS2 I stuck to the theory of "bosses are always behind a fog gate, therefore always be prepared to have to fight a big enemy when walking through a fog gate." Kind of common sense. And again for the Smelter Demon, even with the burning in close proximity I took no more than 50% health damage tops, both him and Looking Glass Knight I found to be a piece of cake.

well. to keep it short:

the boss battles were boring(large humanoid, usually with mobs or several bosses to achieve false difficulty), music was most of the time bland and boring(seriously i think i can remember like 1 or 2 songs from the entire game that were somewhat memorable) it used cheap tactics like huge amount of strong mobs packed together, homing attacks(can best be seen with the heides knights) and traps that could not be predicted(for instance some of the ogres in the aldias keep) also the dumbing down of the torch system to pander to the needs of some casual fans(lack of better term) was annoying, the npcs were just glorified crutches for people who cant summon real players into the game(only one who actually had story was patches. and the only interesting one was that knight who was hollowing, and that only because it was just a glorious exposition of how hollowing works in lore wise) best example of this is the blacksmith and his daughter who never interract despite being father and daughter. it also got wrong most of the things that made dark souls and demon souls good games.(for instance the hard difficulty was not the main focus of the game, and the previous games while hard, were mostly fair)

User avatar #94 - hydraetis (08/03/2014) [-]
I don't remember the music being any better in DS1. The mobs were only an issue with the Royal Rat Vanguard and Rat Authority boss fights, if they're homing I didn't notice because I can still dodge them all well enough, the Seathe insta-kill fight was only predictable if you read about it on a walkthrough, I don't see how the torch system of DS1 was advanced in any way like seriously. how is lighting a torch dumbed down in comparison to holding up a lantern? They are effectively the exact same , I don't see any problem with increased NPC summons for bosses, and just to finsih, the Anor Londo snipers and Ornstein boss fights were just as annoying as any part of DS2.

Toph uses the earth to see with. Since the sand constantly shifts beneath her, it makes it difficult for her to see, therefore more difficult for her to bend properly. The sand benders on the other hand seemed pretty adept with this environment since they lived in it and can actually see what it is they are bending at.
