Say you gots 5 innocent children under threat of a man with a bomb. If you don't kill said man, bomb goes boom (no exceptions. It's just the way it is). Would you kill the man, or let the 5 kids die? You are armed in this scenario.
#173 - xxmemosxx (05/07/2014) [-]
How about you kill the 5 innocents to kill the one armed guy.
#183 - infraredanus (05/08/2014) [-]
My question to you is how does that even make sense?
#219 - xxmemosxx (05/08/2014) [-]
Because that's the way American forces are going at the moment.

I didn't see what the other guy had said so I'm probably way off base I had had a couple of drinks last night
#232 - infraredanus (05/08/2014) [-]
Eh, I don't blame the soldier, I blame the administrators for the army (generals and such) as occasionally their solution for everything (but not commonly) is kill. Unfortunately that kind of stuff is the only thing you hear in the news. Did you know when a Vietnam veteran passed away, one who saved a doomed company of soldiers by taking his Huey into the fray to evacuate the troops AFTER their commanders ordered no heli's sent into the hot zone? No? But you sure heard about some celebrity having sex with some guy didn't you? (Kim Kardashian came to mind, just random celeb for the example don't hate me ) Soldiers just follow orders, and occasionally break them for the greater good. Of course there are the cases of traitors and murderers but thats no worse than civilians murdering each other. Don't sweat it, if you drink enough every thing will make sense

TL;DR Drink enough till it makes sense, not always the soldiers fault.

I get the assumption that you are against war?

User avatar #47 - hopcroft (05/07/2014) [-]
There will always be war. It doesn't matter if you, I or the rest of our nations agree with it. I myself serve and whilst no soldier advocates war, we understand that sometimes it is needed as there is no other way. Marines, Seals, Para's, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do, once you have spoken to the other side you understand that all they understand is the winner is the last one alive. The world isn't all your middle-class suburbia son.

If you want everyone to keep their opinions to themselves why did you make a passive-aggressive comment to begin with?

Life is a two way street. You want to state your opinion to the world? Well thats fine, but your going to get people stating what they think of your opinion whether you like it or not.

And you think I was doing that by saying "Sometimes you need to kill people to save people." ? Because it doesn't really sound like a sentence that's trying to change your view to me.

Felt this was necessary (I want to join up though. Not because I want to kill, but because I feel a sense of duty toward my country. Army isn't always kill.)
User avatar #83 - dagold (05/07/2014) [-]
I'm an army medic, even though I'm supposed to be there to treat wounded, I'm still expected to take part in a firefight. Keep that in mind.
#86 - infraredanus (05/07/2014) [-]
Another point that an army job doesn't always have to be about killing! Although if you must you are expected to, most of your job is actually helping keep the living alive. Also thank you for your service
User avatar #77 - hopcroft (05/07/2014) [-]
You are never taught to kill, its always to stop the threat. If I could use flowers and words to stop my enemies I would in a heartbeat!! Good luck in your military career.
User avatar #85 - dagold (05/07/2014) [-]
You are right, we even treat wounded enemy soldiers if they survive the fight. Neutralize the threat, only kill if needed.
#80 - infraredanus (05/07/2014) [-]
^ I like how military dudes are always nicer then most people you met on the street. War has always had a huge history (why I love history). I find serving as something really honorable. Thanks for serving our country (or whatever country your from if you aren't from the US). Wish you could stop your enemies with flowers...

<3 probably the OP since he's completely anti-war. Doesn't make sense because if you could fight a war with flowers rather than killing? That is kind of what he wants?? Or it's just some troll (unless OP is a troll...). So many ifs.

No, it's not. You can't just say "it's implied" as an argument for anything. The guy wrote the dot wrong. It's incorrect syntax. You can't just fucking use improper syntax and say "Well it's implied!" because you could've just wrote it the right way the first time like someone who's not a god damn moron.
#26 - curses (05/12/2013) [-]
But how the hell does he get 10*10 from that above?

Because the above is 100 - 100 / 100 - 100 which should be 0. Because they zero themselves out. Also anything split by 0 will become 0.
How on earth does he get 10 times 10? Also it looks like hand writing to me so I'm going with 10,10 on those numbers. I'd buy it if it was on a PC but those double zeros does not look like a PC writing to me.
#31 - brainy (05/12/2013) [-]
he gets 100-100=10*10-10*10
since you multiply before retracting
#32 - curses (05/12/2013) [-]
But in the first part with 100 - 100/100 - 100 there is no multiplication.

The person indicated that whatever would come from the above would be the same that below.
So that 10 times 10 is a separate problem from the one above because it's after the =

Also looking a bit more, he suddenly lost 90 points on the bottom side for no good reason and 80 points on the bottom right side. That does not add up at all. You can not just remove points like that when you've had two equations that have come down to 0.
#34 - brainy (05/12/2013) [-]
you can expand 100 to 10*10 that is totally legal in math problems
he then says 10*10=10^2 so its (10^2-10^2)/10*10-10*10 he can then simplify 10*10-10*10 on the buttom to 10*(10-10) also legal
and 10^2-10^2 to (10+10)*(10-10) also legal
he then says that (10-10)/(10-10)=1 meaning he can remove it, also a legal move in math.
this leaves (10+10)/10=2
All he does is abusing mathematical rules.

The thing is, the picture has it written down by hand. If it was on PC I could accept it but he used hand writing.

He clearly puts the dot at the bottom on both of them which gives him 10.10 which is where my confusion starts. How does he get that out 0/0?
#28 - fefe (05/12/2013) [-]
So what? People write equations in different manners in different parts of the world. Its 10*10 deal with it
#30 - curses (05/12/2013) [-]
Really now? Because Math tend to be the same no matter where you go. Moving that dot around changes quite a bit and I doubt it's supposed to be like that.
#38 - fefe (05/12/2013) [-]
Were you experienced in math, you'd realise putting a dot is WELL ACCEPTED convention.

It's used for two (main) reasons:

1) writing an "x" every time becomes tiresome and mathematicians are all about efficiency.

2) when you use the symbol "x" as a variable, it can be confusing to have a sign with character.
