I guess I've never used a computer in Belgium or France. It kinda sucks that many countries have different layouts. I grew up in the US and got used to QWERTY and all the special characters so that I could type >60wpm without looking. I move to Germany and BAM - I make tons of fucking errors and my wpm goes way down. I'm literally sitting at the computer on my first day at my new job (computer programming) and I'm like, "uhhh... how do I get the greater-than and less-than signs?" Totally embarrassing. There's this extra key that doesn't exist on the US keyboards called "Alt Gr" and it basically acts like an extra shift so you can get three characters on a key. For example if you press 9 you get 9. SHIFT + 9 = " Alt Gr + 9 = ]

so all the special characters I need for programming are in totally different places and I'm basically fucked. Took over a year to get back to my normal speed. Then I go visit the US and gotta do some work or something and I'm fucked again. I think now I'm pretty good at being able to switch between both now. The hardest part is using a German keyboard with a program that thinks it's a US-layout. I have to try and remember where all the special characters are on the US layout and enter them on the German one. It's tough.

Why not just get a normal QWERTY keyboard, if it's that necessary at your job? I'm a programmer too, and i hate having to use different keyboards (UK keyboards normally, some university classes used Mac's, which are US. The @ and " are in swapped if i remember correctly, as well as a few other little things. Just ended up bringing a spare keyboard in because of the amount of typos)

because I need ÄÖÜß, which don't exist on US keyboards. Plus I'm freelance and don't always use my own computer - most times I use the PC and keyboard they provide. Lastly, it's quite difficult to get US keyboards in Germany, especially for laptops where it's built in. I would have to purchase everything in the US and ship it over and pay extra tariff and shit, so yeah - no. Plus, why not integrate? Sure it took a while to learn the new one, but now I'm perfect at it and still pretty good at the US one.

I use an Azerty keyboard but I use a Qwerty on my Phone. I only ever used a pc in another country, but that was in France and they also use Azerty. The only times I also use Qwerty on a PC is when I am in college (they installed Qwerty keyboards on some PCs, Azerty on others). The problem with Azerty is that in most games you have to rebind buttons, some read your keyboard layout, some don't. And in games like CS;GO I use shift to walk and alt to crouch. And when I accidentally push both, my keyboard switched to Qwerty and it doesn't fuck up your controls for some reason, but it DOES make "A" a "Q" when typing etc. So that's annoying, but I can live with it.

I purchased a Mac Mini so I could perform tests on Safari (I'm a web developer and Safari for Windows was discontinued), but I just use my PC keyboard and got some program to be able to use it with Mac. Otherwise I couldn't use the damn thing. I'm used to using the arrows and shift and ctrl keys to select and manipulate text, and like, when I hit SHIFT + END, I expect to select from the caret until the end of the text field. What does Mac do? Absolutely nothing. Fuck Macs.

maybe that's how it worked in 1994. These days search engine rankings have almost nothing to do with META tags. They take visited, trusted sites and search either time-relevant information or max number of page hits. For example, a search for "oakland raiders" would likely give back their home page, the wikipedia article, and maybe a few trusted news/sports news sources (ESPN, Fox Sports maybe). If you search for "Funny Junk oakland raiders" then you'll likely get some FJ content with that in the title (title and first <h1> element have the highest page ranking for most search engines). So the tags don't really do all that much to be honest. They DO help us if we want to filter or search on the site, though.
