They're not. They're going to the Nordic countries, where the economies are booming and schooling is all state-funded, so they get an education based on academic aptitude rather than the size of the spending limit on their credit card.

I don't believe it was ever stated that America is a bad country. Just that it simply is not the best. All countries have their fair share of problems. It's ignorant and pointless to simply ignore our issues for the sake of being able to make false claims and stick our chests out further than the others.
User avatar #194 - damping (09/19/2014) [-]
Let me ask you something, what is the best country?
#198 - Odesius (09/19/2014) [-]
"All countries have their fair share of problems." There is no such thing as "The best country." Numbers can be gathered to show that a country is the best at a particular thing, but to generalize an entire country as the best is no more than an opinion, and should not be stated as fact.
User avatar #201 - damping (09/19/2014) [-]
Well, you certainly wouldn't argue that the US isn't better than say Kenya. OK, so the US can be objectively better than Kenya, but can't be objectively better than say Denmark and Germany? Your argument doesn't hold water.
User avatar #200 - damping (09/19/2014) [-]
So what you are saying is there can be no best country?
#203 - Odesius (09/19/2014) [-]
I'll try once more..
If viewed from the side of opinion, the best country can be any country you want it to be. From a factual standpoint, unless we all suddenly decide we are going to all have the same views on life that the single country backs, AND that single country suddenly leads the world in production, exports, crime, etc., then no, there can't possibly be a "best" country.
User avatar #205 - damping (09/19/2014) [-]
Fine. I'm just saying until Europe became irrelevant, the only things you guys used to define the best countries in the world were the size of your empires, the size of your economies, and the power of your militaries. But now that the US leads in all of those categories, along with technology and innovation, none of those things matter.

How convenient...
#206 - Odesius (09/19/2014) [-]
Convenient to those who choose to ignore all the other failings for the sake of bragging rights, yes.
User avatar #212 - damping (09/19/2014) [-]
Exactly which failings? I'm sorry the US doesn't hold all of our citizens hands through everything. We in the US still believe in personal responsibility and making something of ourselves. Something people in Europe have seem to have forgotten. Think about this. What does Europe outside of Germany actually produce anymore? Not much. Imagine if they had not raped the rest of the world for all of their current wealth. A service economy with free healthcare and free higher education which at their core are wastes of money since the government does not run things efficiently.

Europe is hemorrhaging money in terms of import / exports. IF anyone has failings it is Europe. But whatever. Enjoy blowing the money you ancestors left for you.
