Yes I think the main (and justified) anger is directed at morons who don't want to say it's a girl/boy at a childs birth. They can fuck off and jump off a bridge.

The difference between "gender" and "sex" is more of a social thing than an actual language one. If you go on, say, vocabulary.com or dictionary.com and look at their definitions for "gender", dictionary.com will literally have "sex" as the definition for it, and vocabulary.com will tell you that sex and gender are synonyms and that gender means "the properties that distinguish organisms on the basis of their reproductive roles".

No, the non-difference is a social thing, because a lot of people incorrectly use the terms interchangeably. Dictionaries update frequently to include slang and demonstrate the evolution of words in language; if people start using words for a different meaning and that enters common vernacular, a dictionary will update to show it. This is why 'Cool' both shows something as cold and interesting in a dictionary. Sex and gender have two completely different meanings in biology, psychology, medicine, and science, which is where hauntzor is getting his information (correctly). If you opened up a biology textbook, you'd get vastly different info.
TL;DR, Gender is a social construct and sex is a biological trait.

psychology.about.com/od/gindex/g/gender.htm - Psychological
That, combined with my previous makes for most of the sources having "sex" included in the definition for gender, or saying that they're the same thing.
I'm well aware that Gender and Sex are two different things, but that's a social construct.

You going to keep tossing me online links? Alright, I can do that too.
We done? I can cite websites that say the holocaust never happened and that the Earth is flat too. Doesn't mean they're bloody right.

No need to get so heated, I'm not even disagreeing with the fact that gender and sex is different. They ARE different.
As you said (sort of), words and language changes to accommodate changes in slang and such, which is pretty much what I'm saying. The differentiation happened as a result of social change, not necessarily a literal one.

Just to add to this.
You can generally call transsexual people transgender, some even prefer it because many people focus too much on the 'sexual' part of transsexual (and there's some left over negative feelings towards transsexuals attached to that word (mostly from decades ago)).
This is also why transgender is now a more political correct word.
Many transsexuals prefer to be called either a man or a woman anyway (or even transman or transwoman).
Of course, everything differs from person to person, which makes it all the more difficult for outsiders. But that's pretty much the case for most labels.
Another misconception I see a lot on FJ is that people seem to think transsexual people are attracted to the same sex they identify themselves with. Which is not true. There's gay, straight, bi, a-sexual, etc, etc, etc transsexuals.

That actually was very informative. I've never really understood what the term cisgendered meant nor have I ever really taken the time to understand the difference between sex and gender. Also, now I know the difference between transgender and transsexual, because before I just used the terms interchangeably.
While I still think the activists who preach this shit as "equality" are batshit insane, it is nice to understand the terminology and even a little of the philosophy behind their beliefs. +1

It always blows my mind when Comedy Central will bleep the word "fuck" but let's "shit" slip right by every time.
I don't even understand censors in the first place. Anyone who isn't retarded can use context clues to figure out what word they said, even little kids. There's really no point to them.

nigga do you remember the shit episode? They said shit about 170 times that episode alone, something about the FCC going leniant on late night TV for swearing and shit. Hell I've seen late night programming on Comedy Central uncensored, and I mean nudity, cussing, and other strange shit...
