anecdotal evidence for the win! Depends on where you work like I said above. If you work at a cheap place than your tips will be less obviously and you should go work elsewhere.

If only was that easy but fair enough, Waiters make a nice wage if they're good enough.

basic math suggest otherwise, if you make just $80 in a 8 hour shift that is $10 an hour, like 2.5 over min wage. That's assuming you even work 8 hours since a lot of servers only work like 6 and thats $13 an hour

By only like a dollar or so an hour, but yes most of my coworkers make more than minimum wage on a consistent good week.

They say you're something like 70% more likely to find someone willing to hire you while you already have a job, so staying where you are because they were the only ones to answer your calls isn't always the best idea.

use IHOP to get some cash to live on, and keep sending out CV's. Something better will come along eveutally, and in the meantime, you won't be eating away at your savings like you were when you were unemployed.

As for "service" what exactly is it? Is it diffrent in america?

In england, a waiter asks for your order, writes it down, tells it to the kitchen staff, then eventually picks up your food and puts it on your table.

Fetch and carry, pretty much. Service isn't really a part of it.
If anyone deserves a tip at the end of a nice meal, it should be the chef, shouldn't it?

It's not really a scale of great/good/ok/bad/terrible service.

It's pretty much a switch. "Did the waiter ask for your order, then bring you your food Y/N?"

If the answer is Yes, then you did your job and you are a waiter. If the answer is no then you didn't do your job, and soon enough won't be a waiter any more, just like any other job where you are expected to do a thing in exchange for a paycheque.

I buy things from the company you work for, your company uses you to make sure i get the things i want, i pay your company, then they pay you a monthly wage.

If i don't pay, i don't get my stuff.
If I don't get my stuff (or it's broken, or the wrong stuff) then your company doesn't get my money.
If your boss doesn't pay your wage, then you don't work
If you don't work, then you get fired and thus don't get your wage.

A leads to B leads to C.

I understand man I'm on the same boat. I'm ignoring waiter jobs though, because of how I truly feel about them. Now that you have that job I suggest you keep looking for better and better my friend. You shouldn't have to be someones bitch in a restaurant just to earn their tip. Get out there and find something better for yourself. You'l be happier with a more stable job.
