Actually, aspergers doesn't pick and choose which subject you're going to be "good" at, it effects the brains ability to process various sensory inputs, which involves critical thinking and problem solving.
For people with aspergers (and generally anyone with autism), these things are heightened, but other parts of their brain suffer a draw back, like having the ability to drown out various signals, which can act as a massive distraction, even halting functionality entirely.
It's why people with various forms of autism need to be accommodated. They're ingenious most of the time, but being in the proper environment (which involves everything from physical space to peers and teacher) can mean the difference between failing and acing the class.
