Yeah, I remember that case with the jeweler.
I still think it's bullshit for him to be convicted.

Ah well, that sucks. Guess I'll have to learn hand-to-hand combat properly if I want to protect my stuff here.

Anyway, thanks for the info. At least I'll feel more confident to tackle those fucks, next time they rob me or my house.

Good luck on your law studies.
Lawyers can be very good people who can change other people's lives for the better.

keeping someone's baseball just like that ?
how much more violent can a man get ? lol j/k

i think i've heard of something like this here in US.
like the home-defence and stand-your-ground laws in some areas.

and then there's this other gem i heard about :
goes something like : its not about what is right and wrong.
it is about what is righter and wronger.
or rather being more right or less wrong in a specific situation.
like getting a pass on driving drunk in order to evade being chased down and murdered thereby claiming self preservation .
i dont remember where i got that from. probably some movie or video.

gawd i love the legal shenanigans people can come up with sometimes.
i just dont enjoy spending time in a courthouse for any reason.

TLDR: cool beans there hardline , thank you sir

of course that drunk driver would have to prove in court that someone was actively trying to murder him at that time

Really!?
Fuck, I let those robbers ransack my house for nothing? Alright, I was 12 at the time. Nothing I could've really done about it, but still.

So, let's say, a few people break into my house and start ransacking my shit.
Am I allowed to take my knife/machete/kukri and slash them with it?
What if they start running away with my shit?

Is a legally registered .22LR pistol ok to use?
This is the first I've heard of it.

I think for the moment you can keep them under control until you call the cops or make them pay for what they've done (broke your window to get in) in return for not calling the cops.
But you know that jewel storekeeper who shot the thieve? He was convicted because he shot the thieve. Instead he should've kept him under control until the police arrived.
That's justified.

But our hof van cassatie keeps changing the 'rechtspraak' (don't know how to translate that) with every case.

Uhm, I think it translates best to 'justified violence'.
In some cases your violence is justified, but in Belgium violence is a word used for many things that aren't always violence.
For example, you throw a ball trough my window. I can keep the ball until you fix my window. This is justified 'violence'
