Rocket launches have very little recoil, if any. The force is not being pushed on to the gun.

Pro tip: The AT4 is designed to not explode when you shoot it into the ground. It wont go boom until it spins a certain number of times

Yet some idiots still manage to kill themselves with it by casually tossing it up and down in their hand to look cool until it spins enough time and explodes when they catch it. Even the greatest safety precautions can be overcome.

"Oh no! Not socialism! How awful! Just look at Canada, with its socialized medicine! How on earth would we make profit??"
User avatar #273 - andriod (05/23/2015) [-]
Just to make out a point, Its because the medical system is so lucrative in the US that we have so much research going on and have cured so many ailments. Big companies are okay with spending billions of dollars because they know they will make a big profit. Something that you don't find in most countries with socialized healthcare.

Honest question, Whens the last time you heard of Canada creating a cure for a disease?

Im not saying I'm happy about the current system in the US, But I just can't stand people who refuse to see that there are substantial benefits to our approach as well and think that socialized Medicine is one and only perfect choice.

Not trying to imply you are one of those people, But I know that a large amount of people will Flock to your comment and will fit the category
User avatar #281 - mcburd (05/23/2015) [-]
My problem is not the cost of finding cures to stuff, its shit like hospital bills.
Unless you have the money to pay for things, you're shit out of luck.
User avatar #285 - andriod (05/23/2015) [-]
Yeah I agree, Shit is inflated as fuck.
Buts its because of that that we produce so much medicines. I think best solution lies in a half and half sort of measure. We need to regulate the fuck out of medical industry so things aren't going to cost fortunes but actually gives companies a good incentive to develop new things.

Its a tricky issue that needs more intelligent people then myself to iron out, But socialized medicine is not the one and only path forward like so many in this thread want to believe. If the entire world adopted the practice, then we would ultimately be damaging our own effectiveness of dealing with new outbreaks
User avatar #292 - mcburd (05/23/2015) [-]
A hospital bill has nothing to do with the development of medicine.
For the price of a hip replacement in the US, you pay for a plane ticket to spain, have the operation done there, live in an average apartment for a month, and then buy a return ticket home. Pharmaceuticals dont even research something unless it has a huge benefit to them.
User avatar #293 - andriod (05/23/2015) [-]
That kind of stuff is exactly what I refer to when I say we need to regulate the industry heavily. Getting everyone to pay is not the only way of decreasing the tremendous inflation we currently have. Sorry for being a bit inconsistent. I know Im inevitably jumping around bit but Im currently having a mind splitting headache so I can't really think things out properly. I just couldn't pass up on getting in on this thread to debate and discuss

Also on a side note, That bit about the hip replacement isn't entirely truthful. If you have no insurance and are not filthy rich, The majority of hospitals will knock that down by a very large amount because they just hope to break even. What the price figure represents is what the starting amount of the negotiating process between Insurance companies and Hospitals. If you call up billing you would almost never have to pay that amount.

In High School, I was in ROTC and the first thing they told us before we went out to Drill was, "Do NOT. Lock. Your knees." They had this story about a guy, Godfrey, who locked his knees at the annual drill meet. The biggest competition of the year. It wouldn't have been so bad, except he was the guide on, which meant he was carrying a small flag with a sharp spearhead at the top. When he collapsed, he collapsed face first onto the spear. He had to get stitches in his chin. They still make fun of him there, even though he graduated years ago.
User avatar #12 - hamsterball (05/22/2015) [-]
yeah, when I was in CAP the first thing they told me when I went drilling, is to not lock your knees.
User avatar #10 - Kanoah (05/22/2015) [-]
How tall was your guide on? Those things are kinda tall, falling onto a spearhead that's above you in the first place shouldn't be possible
#13 - thejaymezians (05/23/2015) [-]
Our guide on was only 6 feet tall. The school wouldn't allow it to be any taller.
User avatar #14 - Kanoah (05/23/2015) [-]
See there's the issue, our guide on was roughly 7 1/2 feet

lol that is not how becoming an officer works..
especially not in the air force.
you better have a squeaky clean record from 9th grade of high school to the day you graduate and go talk to the air force.
Even then, they're going to tell you how much easier it is to become an officer once you enlist. And your stupid ass will bite, and ship off to basic.
#101 - anonymous (05/20/2015) [-]
You're retarded. To become an officer from enlistment you can take one of two paths.
You can go to the Air Force Academy at recommendation from your state senator, or you can spend more time in the JROTC at your college given they have an Air Force branch and you go from there into the ROTC USAF branch and then from there you can become an officer.
#71 - hamsterball (05/19/2015) [-]
only a fool would enlist thinking it's easier to become an officer that way, also for your information, I do have a clean record.

#97 - anonymous (05/20/2015) [-]
The Airforce is called the Chair force because if you're not sitting at a desk (75% of time) you're flying simulation combat sorties while still sitting in a chair.

Honestly I prefer the padded cockpit seat to my cheap ass office chair that's essentially a towel stapled to a wooden block.

#59 - anonymous (05/19/2015) [-]
Well, if you scored higher on the ASVAB you could have joined the air force too.
#82 - hibbby (05/19/2015) [-]
asvab scores have nothing to do with what branch you go into.
User avatar #109 - AcidFlux (05/20/2015) [-]
Actually, they do, but not in a mandatory sense. You have to have a certain score to enter the military, and some branches have higher minimums. In fact, for high school graduates, the Air Force and the Marine Corps have the highest requirement. An ASVAB score of 50th percentile. The Army is 31st percentile and the Navy is 32nd.
An ASVAB score that gets you in the Marines can get you into any of the branches.
#110 - hibbby (05/22/2015) [-]
fair enough. That hardly matters since 50th percentile is still a shitty score. I guess i should revise my statement by stating, you can still be a retard in the airforce.
User avatar #112 - AcidFlux (05/23/2015) [-]
50th percentile is literally better than average. It means you scored better than 50% of the rest of the population. It's not the same as getting 50/100 on a test.
#114 - hibbby (05/23/2015) [-]
50th percentile wont even get you half of the jobs in the army. or "the stupid branch"
#113 - hibbby (05/23/2015) [-]
This is coming from a guy who scored in the 91 percentile. i know what 50 percentile is, its not good lol
User avatar #115 - AcidFlux (05/24/2015) [-]
That's great. 99th here.
50th percentile is literally above average, although not by much.
But the primary point is what the minimums are required for each branch. Air Force is usually looked at as the hardest to get into, and people think it's easy to get into the Marines. Yet both branches have identical score minimum requirements.
#116 - hibbby (05/24/2015) [-]
back to the original point. Yes 50 is above average. i do not dispute that nor have i. but bragging that youve made it into a certain branch by achieving at least a minimum score, is not worth bragging about at all. im not saying youre the one bragging; im referring to my original comment, which was directed at anonymous, later proved wrong by you. so i still stand by my original opinion, 50th percentile is a shitty score.
curiosity here, what do you do in the military?
User avatar #117 - AcidFlux (05/24/2015) [-]
From our perspective (90%+) and by our personal standards, it is a shitty score. Just like I think anything less than a 'B' is a shitty score. It's a matter of point of view
