a car is the whole package; performance, looks, design. in that case a super car is way better than a muscle
#428 - guitarexplain (09/12/2014) [-]
You're approaching hardcore fanboy territory here man. Looks and design, as stated, is all personal preference, so that doesn't make you better than muscle. Also, as previously stated, current stats for the two put the Hellcat Challenger just behind the GTR on a 1/4 mile (ahead is using street legal drag radials). Not to mention the new Hellcat Charger as well, which does an equal time to the GTR on a 1/4 mile, so your performance department isn't looking way better than muscle, especially for $40,000 more.

GTR still looks way sexier and i bet it corners better
#426 - guitarexplain (09/12/2014) [-]
Corners I won't argue, I haven't seen any stats on that yet, however Dodge isn't looking to make a track car, it pretty obviously focused to be a 1/4 mile strip car (the other muscle car companies are competing in the track market). But unless you go to a track you'll hardly ever, if at all, use that car's potential. The average driver is just going to do red light races and other straight-aways, where the Hellcat will shine. And as for looks that doesn't mean shit in terms of which is better. Everyone is going to like their own thing, (I myself am not attracted to the GTR at all, I respect its performance, but think its nothing special otherwise).

I'm going to learn some blues stuff. I got 2 books out of the library and after that, I'll just learn some stuff I feel like. I've been thinking Crimson Day by A7X because it sounds really nice. Also, I have a Boss BD-2, Boss CT and a turbo overdrive. What should I do to try and get a good sound from them?

What guitar and amp are you running them out of?
User avatar #3 to #2 - sciencexplain (04/13/2014) [-]
Just a Squier Bullet Strat in Red through a Vox Pathfinder 10 watt amp. (I think that's what it is, anyways. Looks like it to the images.)

Cool. Seeing its a solid state amplifier I would go ahead and make the amp settings as clean as you can, and use your overdrive pedals to get your gain where you like it. Seeing you've got 2 overdrive pedals, set one to a cleaner gain and have that be your "base" level of distortion to play throughout songs that require it, (you'll have to play around and find which one does this better in your setup and to your ears) and use the other as a boost for leads on solos and stuff where needed. Im a big strat guy myself and I know its easy to get caught on the sweet sounds of the neck pickup, especially for blues, but play around with other positions as well!
User avatar #5 to #4 - sciencexplain (04/13/2014) [-]
Cool. What about the pickups? I know that switching it to the 2 pickups closest to the frets sounds pretty nice and is very rhythm-based with a lot of emphasis on the bass, but would I need to then switch the pickup for solos or improvisation? Or just rely on the secondary pedal for that?
#6 to #5 - guitarexplain (04/13/2014) [-]
Yes, the 4th and 5th position are going to sound great for that purpose exactly, however don't ever feel like thats the required method and you have to switch to the bridge pickup for leads. Some of the best blues solos especially are on the neck "rhythm" pickup, so feel free to experiment different songs with different positions and settings. Same goes for your pedals, using one as a boost for your solos will sound awesome, but you don't have to do it every time either. I know gain is fun to play with and easy to use, but practicing clean will get you to be a better player faster, cause too much gain can easily hide mistakes, not making you a better player. Here's a diagram on the pickups design on a strat as well.
