I'd get a macbook just for the video, audio, and picture editing software. Except I don't have a thousand dollars to spend on one.

That's because macbooks don't run any programs but the apple-approved ones, tricking mac users into thinking their computers have longevity. It's like living to be 120 years old by never leaving your sterilized bedroom.
Also, iMacs have no replacement parts, so they need to be upgraded often, as opposed to PCs, in which any mildly tech-savvy user can draw out the lifespan of their PC for years by replacing key parts.
Granted, in the laptop department the above argument is relatively invalid, but there are other reasons that macbooks are overpriced pieces of shit.

apple doesnt have any control over what programs are and arent allowed onto their OS, its completly open source. yes pcs are cheaper and you can change parts, but if you want some support, you're fucked. macs are unique because apple makes the OS and hardware so if something goes wrong, you can send it in and they can diagnose it and fix it, unlike PCs where if something goes wrong, you dont know where to go for help. you have a graphics card from here, a motherboard from there and a OS from another place so you're pretty much screwed. so when you're not tech savy, which most people arent, you have to pay almost what the whole computers worth just to get it fixed
