ygdosst (01/06/2016) [-] Depends how much pressure a lightsaber could hold versus it's density. After a certain depth the lightsaber would actually float in the dense atmosphere, pretty stably actually. Considering it was constructed by a mystic space wizard, it's probably made of sterner stuff than you'd expect. I wouldn't know though. You'd have to ask the guy that does the star wars fact comps.  which one? there's like three of us now >.> and it depends on the lightsaber. #25 -
anon (01/06/2016) [-] Lightsaber hilts are made of what is essentially aluminum, or if they got really fancy a specific type of tree bark that is as strong as iron. Even if it didn't get crushed into the shape of the crystal inside of it (which it would have) it would eventually melt/burn away as it got closer and closer to the center of the planet, since the interiors of gas giants are significantly hotter than the cores of terrestrial planets.  considering that in episode 2 anakins lightsaber gets cut in half in the droid factory, not quite that strong. #22 -
ygdosst (01/06/2016) [-] True but for us to know the exact atmospheric pressure caused by a semi-liquid layer of Bespin, we'd need to know the density of Tibanna gas, which could be literally anything Disney determines given that it's a fantasy material. Considering it was used as a fuel/component for lightspeed or an armable high-explosive, if it functioned even semi-similarly to gasoline fumes, it could actually have a very low pressure liquid layer. Fair enough, my biggest problem with a lot of the stuff in 7 similar to the lightsaber problem is that the writers seemed to just be going, what would be cool instead of what would make sense. It is a good movie but it creates a lot of questions that I don't think will ever get answered. it probably fell into the hands of a few ugnaughts. they did the same thing in the old canon, then cloned luke twice...Luuke and Luuuke. | ||
