Well he kinda does have a point. While jews are anal about who their children mary, and you can only be jewish by being born into it, it doesn't require both parents to be jewish. Maybe when it was still made up of only Canaanites it could have constituted a race, but at this point it's been modified so thoroughly it's really just another brand of Caucasian, maybe one with an Arabic tint.

Yeah, and then they help us out and give us resources.
Cure our diseases.
Enlighten our land so more crops can grow.
If THOSE aliens landed here it'd be fantastic.
But chances are, if Aliens come here instead of us going there, they're more advanced than us to the point where our mind can not comprehend their consciousness, and we'll be pets if we're lucky.
They'll check out our planet, try to teach us to communicate, some of us might be able to break through, but all in all we would probably just be something to observe and make note of for any intergalactic issues and we would be marked off as "not ready" seeing as we are not even whole as a planet yet.
#70 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
Cute. That is the typical assumption, innit?
Believing aliens ae necessarily a metropolis of superiority and elitism is pretty cynical. When europeans decided to colonize the states, they did interact with the technologically impaired natives, observing their culture and similar
#79 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
Except the biggest difference is that the Europeans understood that these tribes were sentient beings (even if they did exploit them). There's no guarantee aliens would even recognize us a sentient thinking being. They could see as a just an out of control pest species with complex building processes.
#91 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
How do you know they would know? Can they communicate with us? Do they understand our values? Could it be possible their planet is entirely different, with organisms and social structures evolving in (wait for it) ALIEN WAYS? For all they care our satellites could be tincans or space trash caught in orbit. And maybe they operate on completely different technology that they can't decode these signals (which be very likely, especially if they use a different number base than us).
#97 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
Curious about what? Hunks of space metal, or a bunch of grunting hairless apes building huts out of stone and crude metal? I think it's far more likely they would be looking to terraform and colonize or completely crack the planet for the iron and metal rich core than worrying about some evolved lifeforms, ESPECIALLY if they already have space travel.
#102 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
Curious about the obvious signs of infrastructure and civilization you seemingly self-loathing and cynical person.
Pretty sure they would be looking into more metal rich planets
You know, ones that their efforts would actually be worth the effort.
If they were as functionally different as you suggested though, chances are they wouldn't be able to sustain life on earth.
#108 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
First off, Termites don't build things that light up so that you can see it from space t night. Humies do.
Second, Our planet doesn't have enough resources that it would be beneficial to harvest it and bring it back to their home planet. They would use more than they gained. Besides, why do people always assume aliens have the power to excavate an entire planet but too dumb to recognize the civilizations here? It's cynical and sad
#110 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
Because they are two very different things. One is a matter of technology. The other is matter of compassion, curiosity, persistence, and other HUMAN qualities. For all we know, they don't care enough to investigate. And it isn't a matter of recognizing civilization, it's a matter of measuring SENTIENCE. All animals have some manner of "civilization" in various degrees of advanced hierarchy. Determining sentience is a far harder thing to do. Even humans are just now establishing methods of determining sentience in animals.
#113 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
No. To build the ship and tools required for that job, they would need some sort of civilisation. Therefore they would know the basics of it. They would be able to realize that "Hey! These guys have houses and buildings. They're just like the people back home, you know, because most of them would still live on their own planet because why else would you want to excavate entire planets if not to support your own?
Other animals don't have the sort of civilization where you have houses, monetary systems, refining metal, harvesting energy from the long-deceased corpses of animals long since extinct to drive vehicles around.
And if you see someone do something you can do using a method previously unknown to you, the only logical thing to do is check if maybe it isn't more efficient than your own.
#116 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
And to boot THEY'RE IN SPACE. And if they traveled any sort of distance (which we have to assume they did, because we can't detect any sort of advanced life anywhere near us) they would be extremely efficient at both acquiring and reusing resources. Even if they developed FTL travel, they would still retain that, and probably simply increase such technology, making any tech we have so far obsolete, it wouldn't register a blip on their radar.
#162 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
Breaking my promise from last message.
Because, They would, somehow recon the area they would be excavating, since that's what you're so set on. They would be able to recognize tech even though it's not the same they use. How dense do you think they would be?
And if they weren't here to excavate our planet but rather to say "Hey fuckers, you guys are plebs." then they would definitely recognize the tech.
#156 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
Because we've made it thus far with tech they've never seen before. And my example I was referring to wasn't satelites, it was if we had something like oil or metal refining done more efficient than them.
As for satelites, that counts even better if the aliens do want us dead. They'd see us communicating using tech they've never seen the likes of.
We'd be able to communicate using tech they (and their actual, probably dangerous enemies had never thought of before. Give it to them for not destroying us we would be helping them and as I have stated multiple times and you have yet to make a response to, taking our planet, especially since, as you pointed out, theirs would be far away, would not be energy efficient. They simply would not do it.
I will not be responding any more before you reply to that one simple flaw in your "they'd excavate our planet" rant because it is such an important flaw
#152 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
And like I've said before, that would most likely spark questions about which system is better at their specific job.
I pointed out already that without giving them these attributes they would be incapable of the cooperation needed to make such a project come true.
You can't just say "I have pointed this out multiple times" and not read what your discussee is saying.
#145 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
The fact still remains, if they didn't develop it on their own and still became the more advanced and space faring race, they probably have no need for it. And like I've said a million times, yes I'm sure they understand we have a complex CIVILIZATION, but that doesn't necessarily equate to SENTIENCE. Cows could be as civilized as they want, but if they're just a bunch of roving, dumb meat farms, I'm still going to eat them.
#140 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
You suggested yourself that their entire tech could be based on a completely different logics system. And I don't get why you keep thinking to yourself "Yes, Aliens will be able to cooperate and make amazing ships with the ability to excavate entire planets and bring the haul back to their own planet in an energy efficient way but yet be unable to understand that another civilization is something you might want to try to preserve.
#115 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
So you're assuming they built structures exactly like or very similar to ours? How do not know they don't live underground to avoid natural occurrences like frequent storms, and only the truly stupid animals build structures on the surface? You have way too much optimism to think that they would be similar enough to use to be able to look back and say "Oh yeah we did this once upon a time ago," and no "Oh yeah, on our planet only the dumbest, weakest animals lived on the surface" or something similar. Even as far as carbon based lifeforms go, they could be giant freaking insects with absolutely no point of reference, not to mention any life form that might be based on some far more foreign building component.
#119 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
I'm saying they have most likely housed their space-faring colossus /somewhere/ while it was being constructed.
Yes, they could have built their civilizations underground but if you came across a civilization that did, would you immediately dismiss it as them being stupid?
See, a lot of this shit is real simple if you switch it around to "How would I react if I met someone who did things differently, yet obviously efficiently?"
#130 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
Why wouldn't they assume it? If I barraged into your house with a fancy new gun or space age battle suit, would you welcome me with open arms? I highly doubt it. You'd either cower in fear like an animal, or fight to defend your home. And if nothing else, they're sure to understand that anything can be territorial.
#121 - blakeserene (09/01/2014) [-]
The obvious answer isn't that these things are sentient or intelligent, just well adapted like every other life form on their home planet. If you wanna talk simple, the most simple thing for aliens to do is to crush us before we have a chance to become a threat, not uplift us or enlighten us, or whatever you imagine aliens coming down to do.
#129 - zaiopeperse (09/01/2014) [-]
I didn't say jack squat about aliens helping us, I said if they were here for resources, it wouldn't be cost-efficient. Unless their entire civilization is powered by dirt somehow.
I'm also saying that when you go somewhere to gather resources, be it a potential mine or drilling for oil, you get a sample or a rough recon before deciding wether or not the place has what you need and if it does, if it has enough of it to be worth the dig.
And why would they assume humans would turn hostile?
