The way I see it, every war between the end of the second World War and the fall of the Soviet Union were just proxy wars between the US and the USSR.

Do I have to explain that great powers don't go to war for moral reasons? Really? Are you guys that naive or brainwashed by your own propaganda?

(There are some very few exceptions, but look at the long, long, long list of US interventions since WW2 and tell me those were done to protect others. Any time a war is drummed up, the people are told it's for good reasons. Support jihadists in toppling Gadaffi? He's the new Hitler and kills his own people, we must give these people a chance at democracy, knowing full well this will not bring the people of Lybia democracy! Supporting jihadists to topple Assad? Same thing. You'll also notice that the propaganda techniques are often the same.

Check this and apply it to pretty much any war fought by any nation and the media blitz accompanying it:

Ten Commandments of Propaganda (by Arthur Ponsonby):
1. We do not want war.

2. The opposite party alone is guilty of war.

3. The enemy is the face of the devil.

4. We defend a noble cause, not our own interest.

5. The enemy systematically commits cruelties; our mishaps are involuntary.

6. The enemy uses forbidden weapons.

7. We suffer small losses, those of the enemy are enormous.

8. Artists and intellectuals back our cause.

9. Our cause is sacred. "The ages-old 'God bless America' is playing once more."

10. All who doubt our propaganda, are traitors."

In fact, this comic is a nice illustration of point 10 and how the people who buy into the official narrative will help enforce the acceptance of the propaganda.

I don't really give a fuck what you think, I was just calling you out on your bullshit response. Let me guess, you're from Europe and were born after the Cold War ended, right?

Also you're illustrating point 10 yourself now

I never called you a traitor. You're not a traitor, just willfully ignorant because of preconceived prejudices.
#322 - widar (02/06/2015) [-]
Oh no, I was born after the Cold War ended, like 80+% of people on this website! Horrible! And yeah, I'm from Europe. I fail to see your point in either case, you seem to be attacking me (though I don't know how it is an attack on me personally to refer to my age and the continent I live on) and not my argument.

That explains everything. You're too young to remember that America was the only thing stopping Russia from annexing the rest of Europe, and you're a little babby that hates America because it's the cool thing to do in Europe at the moment among the youth. That doesn't excuse you ignoring the fact that we were forced to become the world police in the power vacuum left by the Soviet Union, or the fact that Europe is nothing but dead weight that doesn't contribute money or manpower to their own defense. Yes, America isn't perfect and we probably fuck up as often as we succeed, but we're also the ONLY nation even giving half a shit in the first place, so until your shitty little hovel picks up the slack you have zero right to complain. However, only an ignorant child would claim that America isn't doing what it thinks is best in the grand scheme. Imagine where the world would be without America for just a few minutes (have fun losing WWI and WWII without our industrial support and having Russia take over all your nations and fucking you over like the Balkans), and I think you'd realize how full of shit and ignorant you are.

Personally, if I were in charge of our foreign policy I'd just hang you all out to dry. Let Russia reclaim the old Soviet Bloc and then some; I'd laugh at whatever pathetic defense you tried to mount against them. Let your economies crash trying to match the amount of funding and manpower that America has dumped into the bottomless pit of your ungrateful little countries, that money would be much better spent in America anyways. Let Japan and China go to war over some shitty rocks in the sea, they can go fuck themselves as far as I am concerned. Let Africa and the Middle East have total fucking anarchy and starvation as far as the eye can see; that aid money and troop support could be used far better at home.

In that case, I'd like to put you in charge of the US so you stop meddling everywhere. You might be disappointed that the world won't end just because the US stops lording over everyone. As to Germany winning WW1 without US intervention - unlikely, but possible I suppose. Wouldn't be a great disaster though, it's not like Germany was "evil" or anything, just another empire. WW2 - yeah, no chance Germany would have won. And our economies here in Europe don't depend on US funding, I don't know where you got this idea.
It's kinda sad that you swallowed the idea of the "indispensable nation" so readily. In any case, I'm out of this conversation. Hopefully someone who focuses on the US itself instead of trying to dominate globally will actually gain power in your country, that's one point I agree with you on - the US people would benefit greatly if the immense resources of the United States were actually used domestically. Win-win IMO.
#327 - nigeltheoutlaw (02/06/2015) [-]
Hahahahaha, whatever you say kid. Like I said, you already have these established prejudices against my nation and no amount of history lessons or facts will make you choose to be less ignorant. Even if you did, you're so deficient in both that it'd take me the better part of a day just to fill you in. Either way, your opinion is entirely meaningless so I guess it doesn't matter anyways.
