| One thing I did find that was moved is scaling, I didn't realize that until just now when I connected the windows 10 laptop I have to a 4k monitor. It works pretty much the same way as it did in 8.1, it just links you over to settings instead of it being in control panel. Weird design decision, honestly. I always just set updates to automatic because I'm very lazy and would never get around to doing it myself if I didn't, so I can't really say anything about that one. Unless your talking about it forcing you to restart to install the updates, in which case that is annoying. Yes the restarting. In windows 7 I always had updates to search and download automatically but I decied when to install them manually. I'm rendering videos for youtube sometimes. And a few times I had a rendering process running and suddenly windows was all like I'm restarting in 20 minutes finish and save your work. And the rendering still had an hour to go or something. | ||

Oh ok, I didn't know that old dialog was still actually in there. I always opened it via the conext menu on the desktop. In windows 10 the abomination I posted opens there. XD One dialog that was cut from control panel is windows updates. But I think there are more. Speaking of updates. You can't even configure the updates anymore, at least I can't. It just forces me to install all updates at some point. Not that this is particularly bad but annoying somehow. | It works pretty much exactly the same way as the one in 7, have you used it? I used 8.1 with a third party start menu and it worked exactly the same as 7, so I didn't have an issue with 8.1. I haven't upgraded my gaming PC to 10 yet because things like DirectX12 haven't really been implemented in many games yet, but it's not surprising Microsoft would want to make their new OS as attractive as possible. You say the options are all over the place, but Control Panel works nearly the same way as it did before, and the same goes for most settings. And more optional things isn't really a bad thing, honestly. #21 -
grasman (12/26/2015) [-] Of course I used it. I'm using it every day. Some options are cut out of the control panel and have new entries in the settings app or whatever it is called. Also some settings are confusing at best. To change your monitors resolution for example you first have to press "advanced settings" somewhere. And the start menu, while it is true that it mostly works like in windows 7 it's still different. Those unecessary big buttons are obviously intended for tablet users and inherited from the windows 8 metro bullshit. On a desktop pc I don't need such big buttons. You can make them smaller but then there's no title shown. And the normal start menu entries in the list are way to big as well. In windows 7 you could fit twice as many entries if the start menu was extended to the biggest size. The window theme of course is really an opinion kinda thing. But imo windows 7 looked a lot better. The aero glass style was very nice. The dialogs overall looked tidier. Look at the image I posted. There's many dialogs like that in windows 10. Just a white window with options listed one after another. No group boxes or panels to seperate stuff or anything. I don't know ... I think it looks messed up. #24 -

I can tell you exactly were the settings are saved, there are security tools to catch registry changes and authorize them one by one, and you can even look at the source code on github.
It's nothing special or bad I'm doing.
The registry isn't some sacred place on your computer, nearly every program you're using is writing something in it.
That being said, I understand what you mean though.
I wouldn't do it if I could set the options somewhere else.

I just want to say, your dedication to happiness self-pleasure is admirable
I haven't looked into all that too much.
I don't have much experience with github.
I'll take a look though.
Main reason to upload it to github was so people are able to look at the code to see it doesn't do any funny stuff with the computer.
Let's be honest somebody who releases a program on funnyjunk shouldn't be trusted. XD

Yeah in the beginning I had a different numbering going but when I uploaded several releases to github I realized github doesn't like the numbering.
Now I'm just increasing the last number by 1 for each new release until it's 9 and then I increase a number before that and repeat. XD
Don't really care much.
