I compared it to modern classical influenced progressive music. No, it's not hard to listen to passively listen to bits of classical music. When listening to classical music (especially stuff like Beethoven, Wagner or Berlioz) you need to take some time to actually understand why the composer made it that way. You don't listen to Symphonie fantastique saying "oh yeah, it's a great tune, it's nice to listen to while cooking". You actually sit those 50 minutes listening to the music and trying to follow the storyline. After that, you repeat but this time paying attention to details you didn't notice the first time. But if we're gonna put Monster Hunter and classical in the same sentence - Monster Hunter's soundtrack is some of the best neo-classical music 'til date, I'd even comapre it to the Nobuo Uematsu FF soundtracks.

again, there are better musical scores from games out there, monster hunter isn't as special as you make it out to be, all you want to do is make it seem like your taste is better. Nothing else.

i hear you, but i'm pointing out that you have done nothing but try to buffer up an average game to the point of being the best around. you compare it's soundtrack to classical music. you fucking accuse me of being a non-devoted gamer, and then you say skyrim (which has a shitload of mods on pc that can make the game feel like new every time, see oblivion mods) shitty music such as green day or jbeebs.

TL;DR monster hunter is an average game, get over it.

Monster Hunter's soundtrack is neo-classical music. Its soundtrack was recorded by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra unlike most games that use samples. There are 3 official Monster Hunter soundtrack remixes done by guitar players, jazz bands and one dance compilation. In Japan more people will come to a Monster Hunter concert (yes, there are orchestras that play whole sets of Monster Hunter music) than to a Justin Bieber concert. Monster Hunter is like crack to those people! I know, did you know there's a Monster Hunter mod for Skyrim? Skyrim is the videogame equivalent of Green Day? Why? I already explained that - it's extremely popular but no one really wants to play it more than 2 hours. Check it up on steam if you don't believe me. Of everyone here claiming to have played Skyrim, maybe 10% actually finished the game.

"In Japan more people will come to a Monster Hunter concert (yes, there are orchestras that play whole sets of Monster Hunter music) than to a Justin Bieber concert." duh. why do you keep bringing him back into this? he has literally nothing to do with the argument. and duh there is a monster hunter mod for skyrim, there's also MLP, pokemon, and most likely a Minecraft mod. "Skyrim is the videogame equivalent of Green Day? Why? "Of everyone here claiming to have played Skyrim, maybe 10% actually finished the game." i almost didn't want to go into this because it was just that stupid. if you mean finish the main quest, YOU DON'T HAVE TO! this game isn't linear. "neo-classical" new classical? i mean i understand that's the name of the genre but still, new classical is kinda an oxymoron. i play video games for the GAME not the MUSIC. while i agree music is an important part in a game, it's not important to the point of concerts and remixes.

No, I see Monster Hunter more as Dream Theater or Opeth (or maybe even some of the symphonic bands like Trans Siberian Orchestra or power metal bands because of the dragons) since it's a newer game but still is progressive and complex. Skyrim would probably be Green Day, everyone knows it, but the average playing time of all the people that tried it out is 2 hours. Skyrim is nothing special, just hyped up as fuck.

Monster Hunter is one of those games that take a lot of time to really understand its genius. I rage quit and didn't play it for 2 months after I couldn't beat my first Royal Ludroth in MH3. Also, you can't find much actual challenge in the first 150 hours in most of Monster Hunter games, that's basically a tutorial for the real game. I guess the problem here is you're not a devoted gamer.
User avatar #114 - goodguygary (12/05/2012) [-]
you say i'm not a devoted gamer because i don't want to wade through 150 hours of gameplay to get a challenge? if i find a game i like, i play the ever loving shit out of it, but that game doesn't look like something i would enjoy. My tastes are different than yours, that doesn't make me what you accuse me of being.
