I was a tremendous little shit when I was a teen

On more than a few occasions I skipped school to engage in various illicit activities with a group of established ne'er-do-wells.

On several of these excursions we burglarized the homes of people known to be absent during the day and we'd take our sweet time rifling through their belongings and such.

Of especially common note (and as anyone who has ever worked fixing computers can attest to) was that desktops and laptops are goldmines for "terribly embarrassing shit"

I'd suspect that if the intruder had done his homework and known with at least marginal certainty that the home would be unoccupied for quite a while that he would have perused the residents videos collection and (if possible) the contents of whatever computers were to be found.

What kind of lazy-ass pedophile leaves felony porn on the damn tv while he's away?
User avatar #263 - josephwolfe (02/18/2014) [-]
Wait, is there legal child porn?
#350 - anonymous (02/18/2014) [-]
Maybe if you live in one of those countries where it's legal to fuck twelve year olds.
#254 - anonymous (02/18/2014) [-]
I used to be a thief (not anymore this was years ago cleaned up my act since) and you can do anything you want in someones house if you know how long they'll be gone. I've watched a whole movie, made a smoothie, even read part of a book on of the wives was writing. Some of my buddies would even hang out for the weekend if they knew the family would be gone for a week or something. So he might have seen the labels and taken the time to watch it.

Burglars are weird people, usually a type of sociopath. They do weird shit. There was this burglar in my town that took a shit in the corner of every house he broke into. Why? Who fucking knows. But it got his rocks off.
User avatar #300 - badmotorfinger (02/18/2014) [-]
couldn't they just DNA scan that shit?
User avatar #330 - Sinless (02/18/2014) [-]
No, this isn't CSI.

They don't even do fingerprint analysis. Even if their is clearly a fingerprint of the criminal. Forensics is expensive, so they don't pull it for every petty crime. Much less DNA analysis. They reserve that kind of stuff for the big crimes.

I had a close friend once who had someone break into her house, knock over a pie she left out, and leave blueberry jelly fingerprints on her wall. She asked the cop about it and he said, "Yeah we don't really do that kind of stuff."
#308 - terminalinfinity (02/18/2014) [-]
When they caught him, they were able to charge him with every house he broke into. I think I remember them saying it was his first time getting busted. So I guess they didn't have his DNA in any database to compare it to.
User avatar #306 - dzeusas (02/18/2014) [-]
I think you have to have the DNA of the burglar in the system already to get a match. So if he didn't get caught before, they couldn't really do much with that shit.
User avatar #307 - badmotorfinger (02/18/2014) [-]
i thought babies had their DNA and fingerprints recorded before given to their parents
User avatar #311 - dzeusas (02/18/2014) [-]
I don't really think that they do that. Even if they had the DNA of a baby stored somewhere in a hospital, that wouldn't mean that police can access it. It's not all super fast and interconnected like in the CSI.
#309 - terminalinfinity (02/18/2014) [-]
Not in the United States. Fingerprints, yes, with parental consent. But a search warrant is required or a felony conviction for an agency to collect your DNA without your consent.

Three unlabeled tapes, he probably watched them to see if what they were.

A wedding tape, it's garbage, if it's a tape of an Olympic winning game, pawn it.
User avatar #158 - majordraco (02/18/2014) [-]
It was on an Ipad if I read the story right, dude went through the Ipad videos and gave the Ipad back to police.
User avatar #208 - newforomador (02/18/2014) [-]
No, I think that's a different story. I read that one too, but in that one the guy turned himself in so that he could testify against the dude, or something like that. This one was apparently an anonymous tip.

User avatar #51 - propanex (02/17/2014) [-]
Maybe he planted them there.
User avatar #182 - dyalibya (02/18/2014) [-]
Oh, this sounds interesting, but I trust that a competent police and forensic would look for finger prints on the tapes

User avatar #48 - mytwocents (02/17/2014) [-]
he prolly decided to turn on the TV / PC while he was robbing the house and take a few hours to check out the material. evaluate the artistic performance and shit. the usual procedure. most pro burglars take their time and check ebay prices while they are inside the house before they actually decide which stuff to take.
yes, this lil story is quite credible and 100% leit.
#35 - anonymous (02/17/2014) [-]
Maybe he stole a camera and it's case, which had the tapes in it. And then he just got kind of curious.
User avatar #28 - secretdestroyers (02/17/2014) [-]
Probably pictures, but if a criminal felt cocky enough or knew his victims schedule and felt that he had time to watch a video, there's also that possibility...

User avatar #167 - brenton (02/18/2014) [-]
Maybe he also had pictures. The burglar could have seen them, tipped off the cops, then the cops found the videos too when they searched the place.

it's hard to imagine a burglar sitting in before a computer and going thru everything for hours to find something (or tapes, cd, pendrives... something) while being in someone's house he just broke into

so yea callin bs
