There's more than one way to serve. Volunteering, counseling, etc. Even though you can't fight, you can still help.
Also, I was in the Marines 4 years as infantry. Went on a MEU: nothing important happened. 9 months later, Afghanistan: still nothing. Tried being a combat replacement: no word back. Tried joining Army: no prior service in active Army. Enlisted in the US Army Reserve as Combat Medic: no deployment to Afghanistan. You can still be Infantry, but not be lucky. I wanted to fight, too.

"die for my country"
And what fucking good would THAT do? Dying is easy. Living, on the other hand, is very, very hard.
I'll let you in on a secret: this exact thing happened to me, except without the Marines part. After I talked to the recruiter, I knew I was fucked. Now, I'm a sophomore in college looking at a physics degree if I don't fuck up majorly. Yeah, it sucks that you can't do what you wanted to, I get that. But shit man, you can't give up. The military isn't the only way to serve your country, if that's your shtick.

Goood, gooooood. And yeah, it's kinda that way for a lot of folks. They don't see it as a huge deal, but can you really blame them? A lot of people see the military as something to be looked down upon. They might not say it though. And yet others might be secretly relieved, but don't want to bring it up. I've had nightmares about losing an Army buddy before.
Was not pleasant.

I'm 13 and I've always wanted to join the marines, but my parents remind me every time when I bring it up they tell me that I could be killed in action.
And another factor is that, could you really kill someone in the name of your country? Someone you don't know? Just shoot them and not regret it?
#5 - steammadewalrus (01/18/2014) [-]
But that got me thinking, am I really cut out for the corps?
The training they give you from what I hear is fucking intense, you gotta be hard if you wanna be a marine. And I'm not really the hardest person I know, so I'm gonna enlist when I think I'm cut out for it later in life, or enlist when they have a super soldier program.

Not at the moment, I would say. When the update for heists comes in, then probably.
Deathmatch: Shit spawns, terrible cover system
Race: I hope you don't like a clean race, I know it's GTA, but being a criminal does not have to equal being a dick
Survival: Boring as hell, if you ask me.
Missions: I hope you like spending 5-30 minutes for $200-5000 jobs when you're hoping for $9000+ jobs.
#13 - OsamaBinLadenz (10/23/2013) [-]
Passive mode: Actually just a way for players to run you over without you being able to pull weapons on them.
Death: Even if your money is in the bank, you lose it due to medical expenses
Bounty: Butthurt players putting bounties on you because you destroyed their cars while they try to kill you for no reason.
Bad sport system: Killing players who have passive mode enabled is fine, you're not a bad sport. Destroying a player's car in self-defense? You monster.
Buying things: I mean now that the bike glitch is gone, players who used it are just going to kill you and you'll lose money.
I hope you enjoy spending all of your time in your apartment, which costs a minimum of $80,000, waiting for jobs that pay money.

-Missions pay well if you are a high level, or have friends who are a high level. and $200? Really? Minimum is $100, and the max as of now is $50,000. The missions that pay that well can easily be done in 5 minutes if you have a good crew.
-Passive mode is disabled when you get into a car, and is enabled when you get back out
-If you have a bounty on your head, just keep starting or joining missions. Players won't spawn next to you afterwards if they're not your friend. Also, just get a friend to kill you then pay you the bounty, along with medical fees.
TL;DR Get some friends. But the rest is an opinion so I can't really say anything about that.
#163 - OsamaBinLadenz (10/23/2013) [-]
I play the game with 3 friends. Missions may pay well at higher levels, but I'm constantly spammed with shit low level jobs instead of higher ones.
Passive mode has nothing to do with getting in and out of cars in my comment. I was talking about how in passive mode you can't use your weapons to defend yourself if someone decides to run you over. Players run you over in passive mode if they want to kill you and you won't make it easy for them.
Bounties, I won't argue with. Sometimes though, I just want to free roam without hordes of people after me for pocket change.

Up until last friday, you could customize a bike in Los Santos Customs to up its value. That wasn't the glitch, however. The glitch was that as long as you kept the value of the bike below $50,000 (You can't sell vehicles worth over $50,000) then you could sell it (I'm going to use Xbox controls as a reference) by pressing A (are you sure you want to sell it?), press A again (bike is sold), quickly press start right after pressing A twice, lb over to the Xbox or Playstation store, press A twice to get to the money pack, and then press B. You'll appear outside of Los Santos Customs on your bike. You ride back into Los Santos Customs, repeat the listed steps (do NOTHING else. Do not get off of your bike or do anything that risks breaking the glitch) and you can do it over and over again. Some people used the glitch to become billionaires.
tl;dr: Here's a YouTube link.

Ah, I got you now. Thanks! Didn't know that was possible.
I haven't been playing the game online all that much, but you seem to know more about it than me, so I have one more question if you don't mind. Are clothing shops/barbershops safe places for players to be in to avoid getting killed?
#26 - OsamaBinLadenz (10/23/2013) [-]
Also, using that back button menu allows you to put restrictions on who can enter your personal vehicle. If another player has a personal vehicle and doesn't know how to do this, and has been annoying you, then you'll know you can jack civilian vehicles by pressing "Y". In order to throw a player out of his or her car, you can hold "Y" instead of pressing it.

Well, only if they have a back room. Players can shoot through windows if they're on the outside of the building. If they get pissed because they can't kill you, then many people will park cars to block the doors and keep you from getting out. If this ever happens to you, then holding the back or select button brings up a menu, and on the menu exists an option to kill yourself for a maximum fee of $500, not including medical fees from dying. If all of your money is in the bank, killing yourself costs nothing, aside from medical expenses.
