Try reading them in order, fuckwit.
It wasn't stated that the wargs and goblins found the dwarves by coincidence or otherwise. It simply stated that they found them.

And please... a dwarf (I don't remember who, may have been Dwalin) helped Bilbo up. Not quite the same way, but you're still wrong.

"This glade in the ring of trees was evidently a meeting place of the wolves..."
blah blah stuff about their history
"the wargs had come to meet the goblins and the goblins were late. The reason, no doubt, was the death of great goblin."

The Harry Potter series has an astounding amount of mistakes, and plot holes.
1. Harry Potter is a tiny baby, who is left on a doorstep on a November night, with nothing but a blanket. Nice.
2. The Ministry uses Time Turners to help teach smart kids, but not you know, kill every villain ever?
3. Why didn't harry use a Pensive to Show Fudge what happened in the fourth book?
4. In the seventh book, after the fight with the Death Eaters, Hermione claims she never used a memory charm, but at the beginning of the book, she used one on her parents?
I love Harry Potter, but J. K. Rowling has a slightly 'loose pen hand' If you know what i mean. I have only listed a few of her many mistakes, so don't take offense, just Read Lotr, and Harry Potter.
#330 - gjsmothefirst (01/04/2013) [-]
1. Not unusual... there's fucking MAGIC. Also, remember that it's an upscale neighborhood with basically nothing out of the ordinary - and I'd imagine few robbers and such.
2. Not really a plot hole - it's the same argument with "Why didn't Gandalf just take Bilbo to Mount Doom on one of the giant eagles?", that is, the book would be 10 pages long if they did that.
3. Wouldn't build suspense or drama. An interesting point - but then, you have to consider if Fudge would even bother - and that memories can be faked.
4. I'll have to look into that, I seem to think it may have been a Confusion (can't quite remember the name) charm.

I don't take offense, I admire valid criticism. However, I do find that the overreaching plot is VERY well-executed, as well as the attention to details such as names of spells (often take from Latin) and creatures (often taken from mythology).
#331 - skelejockey (01/04/2013) [-]
You are stupid, i hope your toes fall of.
I understand now why you read Harry Potter, because it is intended for middle school kids. Congrats.
Also if you wish to be entertained, read a good book, like Lotr.
#332 - gjsmothefirst (01/04/2013) [-]
Woah man. That's a little harsh.
I've read LOTR, and find it just as enjoyable - and as I said, #2 applies just as well to LOTR.
It's written for a younger audience, yes, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Also, I don't appreciate you calling me stupid, or implying that HP isn't good. I was trying to have a valid discussion, but apparently you see it fit to make ad hominem arguments. Nice job, your opinion is now completely invalid to me, and to anyone else who knows anything about proper rhetoric.
#333 - skelejockey (01/04/2013) [-]
Do you believe that the Harry Potter series is actually good literature for adults to read? If you look on the back of the books you'll see the many-----BEST CHILDREN BOOK AWARDS--- and so on. And i was joking about the toes falling off thing. Sounds kinda traumatic.
#334 - gjsmothefirst (01/04/2013) [-]
I really do believe that, yes. As a matter of fact, I believe that any good literature (regardless of intended audience) is appropriate for any person! I started reading adult-level books when I was in 1st grade, sure I didn't understand everything, but I understood it enough. Similarly, I continue to read what might be considered children's literature, even though I'm nearly in college.

Same applies to TV, movies, video games etc. You don't stop playing Mario just because you're not a kid any more, do you?
#335 - skelejockey (01/04/2013) [-]
I see ypour point, it looks like you have outsmarted me, and are also a good deal smarter than me. I started reading The Lotr, and The Hobbit only in the fourth grade. Forgive me for my rashness, and accept an apology>

I agree they are dangerous extremely dangerous you could take an eye out with one

But how do we simply dispose of 16million(est) guns only for criminals to simply carry on using them even if they are illegal

That is the big question!
#16818 - gjsmothefirst (12/31/2012) [-]
I don't want to ban them, I'm saying that the argument that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is very weak because a gun is itself a big part of the killing process.

I like guns, actually. Not when they're shooting at me, of course, but when used for hunting or such, they're nice.

If you have a pistol and i have a hummer doing 120km/h who is going to end up worse off

I mean hell open a restaurant and still arsenic in everyone's food and loads of people die

Should we banned people to right to open their own eating establishment?
#16767 - Ken M (12/31/2012) [-]
The intent of a car is to quickly get you from point A to point B.
The intent of a restaurant is to feed people.
The intent of a gun is to kill. It has no other purpose.

Please stop this ridiculous analogy, it doesn't help at all, plus it makes little sense.
#16766 - gjsmothefirst (12/31/2012) [-]
Alright then - these are good points, you just misunderstood me.

No vehicles, no elaborate schemes and such - if you're in a fight (let's say, in a school or movie theater etc.), and I have a gun, and you don't - I'm going to kill you pretty fast (if I want to). Guns facilitate killing, and make it easy.

Sure a Hummer will kill me. Sure arsenic will kill me. I'm all in favor of having Hummers (when you actually need them), restaurants and guns - except some people don't realize that guns are fucking DANGEROUS.
User avatar #16803 - JimmyJongo (12/31/2012) [-]

And of course, everyone obeys the law.
