i thought so, and its story time! I made my FJ account about a month after getting a high speed internet connection. I've had dial up for like 20 years, but nothing worth using. I called myself newborn because i was new to fj and to the internet in general. i didn't even use facebook then... i kinda miss the outside days...

I just realized 2 things:
1. My account was 2 years old yesterday
2. your account is 5 days younger than mine. weird right?

Quite strange. I had been hanging out on fj for quite a few years (probably a decade), but I had to do it while I was at school since I also had dial-up at the homestead for most of my life. But two years ago, it seems, we both made the leap.

Okay. I think I (mostly) get it now. Still don't understand why it would be implemented instead of just giving people the grade their marks correspond with?

As to that:

teachers keep their tenure by getting good evaluations.

teachers get good evaluations by passing most of their students.

Some teachers are unwilling to make their exams easy because they feel it undermines the point of teaching, i.e. they don't want to "dumb down" the class on material that they feel is important.

Hard exams leads to less students passing leads to bad evaluations leads to losing tenure leads to losing their job.

To give hard exams and still pass people, they curve the grade sometimes.
