Yeah, I instantly felt like the girl who was holding on to me was interested in me in more than a friendly way. Just do it half-jokingly and at the right moment.

example: If some group is making a lot of noise/commotion, hold the guy a little bit above the crease in his elbow (~2") and say "I can count on you to protect me, right?" with a smile on your face and make eye contact.

This of course will only work if he also has a slight interest in you, but it is a way to figure out whether or not he does without digging yourself too much of a hole if he doesn't. Best of luck!
