I already said that the customs were different, but they believe in the exact same God, so it voids the base of your whole argument. Christians and Muslims just have different ways of connecting to the same God.

And each holy book says that they are the only right one. Sure, they may say it's the same god, but he's a pretty different fellow in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Qur'an.

If this comparison really bothers you that much, pretend I said Hindu instead of Muslim.

Muslims and Christians believe in the same God, its just the logistics of the book of worship that they use that are different.

Do some research before trying the educated athiest schtick
#1284 - tonybony (05/15/2012) [-]
Yes you are correct, they are the same God. However what if it's a God that we haven't created a religion for? Or better yet, what if it's a god from a religion that we have deemed as mythology like Zeus. Then what? Are we all doomed to eternal damnation?
#1319 - awesomeguyTS (05/15/2012) [-]
point taken. Unlike most athiests and people of faith alike, I actually enjoy learning about other people's thoughts on the matter. I don't usually get preachy with it, but I legitimately can't stand it when an athiest takes any and all opportunities to call people of faith idiots, especially in a post that was meant to be a joke in the first place.

Same. I like having discussions on the topic with other people, but it's such a touchy subject that you have to be a very careful with your wording and tone of voice so as not to offend anyone. Unfortunately, It's very difficult to have civilized discussions on the internet because it can be difficult to tell if someone is being condescending and can lead to an argument that is void of all intelligence.
User avatar #1393 - awesomeguyTS (05/15/2012) [-]
It also seems like Christians are at a steep disadvantage, half of the time we are persecuted for things done by our dumber individuals
#1405 - tonybony (05/15/2012) [-]
It's true, many arguments that I've been in bring up the topic of morality, usually in the unintelligent arguments. I'm always told that it's impossible for me to be moral without God. I merely compare the histories of religion and atheism. It usually ends that topic even though it doesn't really defend my morality. I prefer to dwell on the positive aspects of people, but when people piss me off I can be a real dick.
User avatar #1463 - awesomeguyTS (05/15/2012) [-]
You seem like a pretty cool guy, are you a person of faith or an athiest, I don't judge, but you are fairly ambiguous on the subject since you didn't devour my soul for saying I'm not athiest, just want to know where you stand on the subject.
#1519 - tonybony (05/15/2012) [-]
I'm an atheist. I understand that other people have different faiths and in America it's their right so even though I don't agree with a person I'm not going to force my beliefs upon them. I guess it's because I've been atheist for long enough and have had enough discussions that I've learned to respect most everyone. Don't get me wrong, I still think scientologists are retarded though.
User avatar #1723 - awesomeguyTS (05/16/2012) [-]
Everyone agrees on that.
#1280 - genericusernameone (05/15/2012) [-]
Yeah, and each has different tenets. When's the last time you saw a Christian pray to Mecca? There's a reason they're classified as separate faiths rather than separate denominations.

Use some logic before trying the semantic bullshit.

I'd like to fucking see your examples of "persecution" I guarantee they effect <10% of FJ's members in a serious way. Also, did you ever fucking consider the fact that people get so much more shit for being a Christian than any atheist ever has? Gay marriage-Beocming more socially acceptable
Evolution-Taught in public schools
Dont ask don't tell-Ended by Obama on September 20 2011
Stem cell research-Only valid point on here
Abortion-State to state issue, but in many is legal to a certain extent
Education-I don't even know what the fuck you're trying to say here. I think it has to do with Evolution but it just doesn't make sense
Any political discussion ever-Unless it's about a moral issue it has nothing to do with it

You have no idea what you're talking about. Elaborate upon how these points apply to my argument please.

There was that atheist girl who got death threats for removing Christian-oriented prayer from school. I do think that you are over reacting and presupposing the outcome of many hypothetical events to be unfairly in your favor. A lot of atheist bashing tends to come from Southern states near the "Bible-Belt"; just because it is not local to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Many atheists are closet-atheists for the sole reason that they do not want to be socially punished for being a religious minority. People are frequently kicked out of their houses for believing in something different than that of their parents. One kid on Reddit has to hide his Harry Potter books and God Delusion because his parents were strict fundamentalists.

Shit happens. People tend to make fun of the biggest shit to create a bigger effect.

It's funny because I fucking live in southeast Texas you dipshit. I commonly see people questioning Christianity and trashing it, and people trying to defend their beliefs are called idiots due to their faith. You're probably not even from the "bible belt" so you have no fucking room to talk.

Those who have never been persecuted by Islam would doubtlessly object. Fact is, more people here have been personally persecuted by Christians (barred the right to marry, denied job opportunities, socially ostracized...), so they are the object of more dislike. Is it what Islam, or Christianity deserves? No.
