Of course it was not. That's like saying USA is English nation.

Soviet Union was multi-national country.

Right, you've conjured up a scenario where it's the US alone vs. Russia, China, and India? Why don't you at least make it realistic, either keep it solely the US vs. Russia or include the US's allies if you want to include Russia's allies. Oh, but then your argument would stupid because the US and its allies could literally take on the rest of the world. Carry on then.

Oh, Europe, America's allies, suddenly doesn't want to be allies anymore? You're just making shit up, the US would supply Europe UP THE FUCKING ASS with gas if that's what it took for them to grow a pair for 1 week. China's economy would collapse if it were to go into a war with the US, but you don't want to mention that? Carry on then...

The US is trying to fight guerrillas while supporting the middle eastern governments who are in turn supporting the guerrillas. If we fought Russia, we wouldn't be concerned with peacekeeping or nobility or any of that crap. Russia gets India or Pakistan, not both. The US and Russia both have a lot of allies. Some will come to aid them, others won't. To say that Europe wouldn't aid America because of oil is just as valid as saying that China won't aid Russia because of American trade partnership. Of course, the best argument for China aiding their (not so friendly) allies in Moscow is that Best Korea would almost certainly join in, and China is not likely to ignore any military actions by the South. Japan might also get involved, to whatever extent they can. The whole thing is too complicated to call, although in a head to head war with no allies involved, I'd call it in America's favor simply because they have such a strong military presence in the Pacific.

The hell are you talking about? I'm in the Army (infantry) and most of my company was pissed as fuck when a deployment got called off. Keep in mind the ones that got the most worked up about it were those that have been oversees multiple times. Hell, most are upset that we are probably not going to see any action for the rest of our careers. PTSD to the extent of being kicked out is a REALLY uncommon occurrence. On top of that, Russia has a huge track record of being the most incompetent on the battlefield. They can't do what they did in WWII and simply throw soldiers at their enemy (you know, because they lost millions upon millions of soldiers and most weren't even geared). WWI was even worse. Hell, right before that they got Roflstomped by Japan. Not to mention they got stomped in Afghanistan with only the US giving small arms to their enemies. Look, I'm sorry your nation or favorite nation isn't a top player anymore. Get over it, the US might be in the same boat one day. Who cares? Take notes from smaller European nations, they absolutely don't give a shit about not being a force.

How many Russian soldiers 16-30 have seen real combat? What you say may have been true in the past, but consider that the US currently has a long list of veterans with extensive combat experience, whereas Russia has little more than a handful of skirmishes under its belt. The last somewhat major conflict was the second Chechen War with 80,000 Russian soldiers involved... in 1999. Everything since then has involved 10,000 or fewer.

Have you ever heard of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk? It was the treaty Lenin signed to end the war with Germany. Try learning the history before you discuss it.

Do you really think a Russian is going to feel unsafe in his own home? This is the era of video surveillance of every last thing soldiers do. For God's sake, we evacuated Iraqi villages before we bombed them. We're pretty fucking far past the days of burning down villages. Cowards are going to run if they have a place to go.

As for your accusations, I think you need to go back and look at who posted what. I certainly never said America can take on the world, I never even mentioned anything about supporting its allies, and I think America is basically a huge terrorist state, so I'm not likely to say 'fuck yeah.' Don't get pissy with me just because you're wrong.

You really don't know history, do you? Germany was within 85 miles of St. Petersburg when Russia surrendered, and Lenin had to give up 300,000 sq. miles of Russian land just to keep them from thrashing the capital. Don't forget that many Russians deserted in WW2 as well, though only a handful lived to tell the tale. I'm not saying that Russians would let the US walk all over them, I'm just saying that you seem to have this Ubermensch view of the Russian people, when they're really just that: people.

Only one US soldier deserted in Iraq (many deserted on US soil, but he was the only deployed member to desert. On average, Iraq in much closer to Europe than any given point in Russia, not to mention that a soldier would only have to get out of tiny little Iraq before reaching more peaceful land. Any US soldier deserting in Russian has to walk through hundreds or thousands of miles of hostile Russia.

It seems we've reached the limit of replies. Do you realize that Russia had to drop out of the First World War because literally the entire military deserted? There's nothing about life in Russia that prevents desertion. Additionally, where would US soldiers even desert to? They're in Russia. As for undercover agents, the US has its fair share of those.

You can't know how modern Russian soldiers will react to combat just based on how they reacted in the past, especially since hardly a handful of them have ever seen combat.

Do you actually think that every American soldier gets drugged up and has PTSD? 2.5 million people have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have had 2 shootings by military members in that time. There are plenty of service members who are fully capable of going to war again. Even if a lot of them have PTSD, they'll still fight better than a bunch of untested rookies, Russian or otherwise.
