None of this is even canon anymore :') The rule of the two was only instigated after Darth Bane discovered it would be a good idea, in a holocron made by Darth Revan. So before that, and after the start of the great hyperspace war dark jedi/sith existed in numbers that could meet the jedi in open conflict. Not necessarily how it was supposed to be, just how it ended up. End of non-canon jazz Also I would imaging there would have to be other sith in the current canon timeline, as Snopes trained Kylo, and if Sidious or Vader didn't train Snopes, then I would be clueless as to how he trained Kylo.

As for Snoke there's a tonne of possible reasons as to how he was trained. For example
look at the inquisitors, Starkiller, other Jedi that survived Order 66, Grey Jedi of which
there were a few. Snoke could have well been trained under Vader or Sidious, but never
given the mantle of Sith.

I should have clarified when I said "Only ever meant to be two" I meant since the
rule of two, but thanks for clearing that up anyway.

The rule of two was a mistake, infighting Sith are way cooler then just two of them hiding for eternity

The Rule of Two was a good idea for the Sith because while infighting Sith is pretty fun to read about, as a Sith it means nothing ever gets done. Bane learned that the Sith did shit when they had at most 2 strong personalities leading them: Revan and Malak, Exar Kun and Ulic qel-droma for example.

Also the reason with only 2 was so that theoretically the Sith would always improve. If you have one master and apprentice the apprentice has to figure out a way to kill the master on their own so they had to show their power or brains. If there were multiple apprentices then they could all gang up on their master once they're each powerful enough but they don't get stronger than the Master. So the Sith slowly start to get worse because all the weak guys just band together then get to betraying each other.

Not like Sidious really followed the Rule of 2 though, trained tons of dark Jedi and never really planned to let Vader kill him.
