My girlfriend has started studying, in England, and stays at a campus. I stay in Belgium, and I have work, and plenty of opportunities to meet girls as well should I want to. We're in a long distance relationship, and it's hard, but we're making it work, and meet each other whenever possible.
The only hard part about it is that I constantly miss her, and she misses me. There never is the urge to betray her, to do something stupid, and I have the utmost faith in her that she feels the same. Because once you have something magnificent with someone, you'd be the most stupid person alive to risk throwing that all away for a stupid one night stand, or a bitch.

Okay, so I don't know you and you don't know me, but since I might come in the same situation as you, can I ask about how long distance relationship works for you, like, how long had you dated when you decided for long distance relationship, and how long will she be away? Sorry to bother you, I don't usually talk about private matters with strangers, I guess it would just be nice to have a conversation with someone who can tell me about it first hand...

Well, for one, it's not a temporary LDR, more a reverse one. She is British, and I'm Belgian. We met on Omegle, talked for several months, about half a year, then I decided to go and visit her. It clicked, I stayed there for my entire holidays (I worked then as well), then had the luck that her parents were coming over to watch the Eneco tour, giving me an additional two days with her.
Since then we've been going back and forth to see each other whenever possible. The key to our relationship starting was meeting in real life. I had learned a very painful lesson in that regard, that you never really knew a person until you met them.
I think the most important things in a LDR are dedication, determination and trust. You need to trust your partner almost unconditionally, as depending on the distance, it's impossible to know what they're up to, and it's rather impolite to try and spy on them.
You need determination to cross that distance if you have the chance. There's almost four hundred miles separating us, but distance is nothing but a barrier that can be destroyed through time, effort, and a bit of money. The good side of this, is that you don't consider large distances 'far' anymore. Does help I've got my own car for that though. I drive eveywhere I want to go, even if it's over 200 km a way, just to have fun for one day there.
And you need dedication to stay true to it. Never believe that it 'may' not be worth it. Destroy any doubt that tries to linger in your mind. Don't be stupid and ignore the truth, but believe in your relationship before anything else. And sometimes, a bit of blind faith does help to squash pesky doubts and thoughts.
Also, stay in contact. You'll run out of stuff to say eventually if you have longer conversations, be they vocal or typed, so try to mix it up with an activity you can do together, like gaming. I got introduced to League of Legends by her, and I still suck, but it's something we do together.
Out of characters now, bye!

Thank you for telling me My situation is a bit different, as we live in the same country, in the same city and during the almost two years we have dated, we have visited each other every couple of days, often 3 times a week, plus we write every day. The longest we have gone without seeing each other was 2 weeks, which wasn't easy. It won't be a permanent LDR, "only" for 6 month, but as you can guess, that is a long time for us. I feel like it is a big risk to take, but on the other hand, I realize it would be a good opportunity...it will be 8 hours away, and I am not able to afford that trip with the money I make, and driving there is not a possibility...skype and playing videogames and watching shows is something we already do, so that would be possible. But I still feel like it would be a big challenge for us, since it will be so different
