i have many points that i can bring up. For example The Christians' objection to the argument. They say that a being must have freewill to be happy. The omnibenevolent God did not wish to create robots, so he gave humans freewill to enable them to experience love and happiness. But the humans used this freewill to choose evil, and introduced imperfection into God's originally perfect universe. God had no control over this decision, so the blame for our imperfect universe is on the humans, not God.

Here is why the argument is weak. First, if God is omnipotent, then the assumption that freewill is necessary for happiness is false. If God could make it a rule that only beings with freewill may experience happiness, then he could just as easily have made it a rule that only robots may experience happiness. The latter option is clearly superior, since perfect robots will never make decisions which could render them or their creator unhappy, whereas beings with freewill could. A perfect and omnipotent God who creates beings capable of ruining their own happiness is impossible
User avatar #157 - furiousstorm (04/06/2013) [-]
But see, if God did make us robots, there is no personality behind it. We wouldn't have fun because it wouldn't be OUR fun, it would be God's. There would be no reason to make us robots. He could have made us robots but he wanted what was best for us, and we wouldn't be truly happy if we didn't have free will. This is becoming useless because now we're only using opinions and no matter what we say the other will just endlessly argue.

Clearly undeniable facts don't seem to mean a thing to christians. All they do is twist the words of the bible to fit their beliefs when combated with logic because they have no other source to draw from. Its fine that you believe in your imaginary friend, really there's nothing wrong with it. Some of us just happen to live in reality and have a degree of maturity that can accept the finality of death and dont need to invent a safety net to make us feel better about dying.

of course all of this is null and void given the fact that it is "open for interpretation" and not only that, to reiterate on my original point God KNEW what everyone from the dawn of time would do until the end of time. So as i have said a million times before. He set everyone up for failure starting with adam and eve. he knew she would disobey and eat the fruit, he put that there so that she WOULD eat it and now he punishes us for eternity. Now to say that he does not know the future would imply that he is in fact NOT omnipont and therefore anything that the bible says from there on out cannot and SHOULD NOT be trusted. If you believe god truely loves his creations you are in denial

"is God willing to prevent ecil, but NOT able?
then he is NOT omnipotent.
He is able, but NOT willing?
then he is malevolent.
is he both able and willing?
the whence cometh evil?
is he NEITHER able NOR willing?

then why call him god..."

But, if we consider that facts that, scientifically, the past, future and even present, are not set in stone, but are ever changing, and that there is also the possibility of two different, opposite things being true at the same time(quantum physics and mechanics) and the theory of multiple universes...then when we say god knows everything, does that mean he also knows every universe and every possibiltiy for every event in every universe? If so, what does that mean? Beause, that's the result of taking your logic to it's end result.
User avatar #145 - furiousstorm (04/06/2013) [-]
Okay, I saw someone make your first point earlier so I put down a response I thought explained it pretty well. I'm just going to paraphrase here. Knowing the Old Testament was written over 2000 years ago, the literal meaning of "omnipotent" and "all-knowing" wasn't what we think today. They thought of it like God knows everything about the past and present. God wouldn't set us up for sin because he has no reason. It's not like he would get a sick kick out of it.
Here is the best explanation I can come up with for evil: God created man with free will. That free will was what we used to sin. Evil is just corrupted good, so since we sinned we became corrupted but then we kept the free will because if we didn't the Bible would have lied and it can't lie because it says "Every word in this book is true". You know what I'm saying?

as a Christian you should really read your bible before saying someone is wrong about things
#143 - delivering (04/06/2013) [-]
If you read the bible, however, you know that Jesus said that the laws of old do not matter anymore, and that they are superceeded by his laws. That is, the rules in the old testament are inferior to those in the new. That's also why Chirstians eat pork, and do not need to circumcise themselves, even though all of that is still in the old testament. That's why most of the shit in Leviticus and Deutoronomy is not taken seriously even by some actual priests.
User avatar #146 - ProperInsanityWolf (04/06/2013) [-]
seriously, you people pick and choose what you want from the bible. Mathew 5:17-19 says that the old testament absolutely is still relevant. you cant pick and choose what you believe. its all or nothing otherwise there is no point of religion
#147 - delivering (04/06/2013) [-]
I am not a Christian. I think you misunderstood that part.
Regardless, the Gospels contradict eachother in more than one point, and some picking and choosing is nececarry as a direct result of that.
A lot of the different books in the bible contradict eachother, but generally it is accepted that the New Testament superceeds the Old.
User avatar #150 - ProperInsanityWolf (04/06/2013) [-]
if thats what you need to believe to make your life better then more power to you. It's not however for people who actually can live their lives without the fear of death being final looming over them.
#153 - delivering (04/06/2013) [-]
Have you not read the first fucking sentence of my post? I am not a chirstian, at all. Neither am I religious. I do not believe in any of that shit. That still does not mean that you aren't being rather ridiculous here.
User avatar #155 - ProperInsanityWolf (04/06/2013) [-]
nothing about what i have said is neither ridiculous nor untrue. and stating the fact that you arent christian nor religious does nothing for your points. regardless of weather you believe that there is an afterlife or not. there has never been a shred of irrefutable proof proving the existance of a god. And people are just supposed to accept that there is? now call me crazy but why would anyone who actually uses a shred of common sense and thinks for themselves believe in such a farce? i bet that if i prayed to zeus or horus or even thor, my "prayers" would be answered with the same amount of continuity as if i prayed to god.
User avatar #138 - ProperInsanityWolf (04/06/2013) [-]
examples of rape Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Deuteronomy 22:23-24
Zechariah 14:1-2 (pay special attention to the "Ravished" part)
and as far as "thats the old testiment goes"
Mathew 5:17-19
okay now its your turn to say "yes but its all open to interpretation though"
User avatar #140 - furiousstorm (04/06/2013) [-]
Both examples of Deuteronomy are saying rape is a criminal act, and that the man should be punished and the woman should be punished for letting him. In no way are these saying rape is acceptable practice.
Zechariah is saying how the Lord will punish Jerusalem for not keeping his word. Granted this is extreme in our judgement, but think of it this way: You just created a whole race of people whom you love and are willing to give everything to. They blatantly disobey you, off/on for years. They spit in your face and say you are fake. Wouldn't they deserve punishment? They would need to know you are their creator whom they are supposed to love and respect.
Matthew is talking about the laws Jesus made in the New Testament. Again, the Old Testament isn't the supreme law, the New Testament is.
User avatar #142 - ProperInsanityWolf (04/06/2013) [-]
