Well, thats a difference of hundreds and thousands of dollars. Hiding a gun from a kid is pointless, you can keep it in the bedside drawer. What you lock up is the Ammunition. Without it a gun is just as dangerous as a rock.

The only way a modern firearm could discharge without operator interaction would be by aftermarket modifications performed by the operator or being exposed to extenuating circumstances that no reasonable firearm could withstand.
In other words, a modern gun won't just fucking go off unless you do extreme shit to it or dick with the trigger group. Any one who says different doesn't know what they're talking about.

A loaded, cocked, gun could go off due to impact with the ground like dropping, or say, for instance, when a guy catches a gun on a pool stick and gets shot in the head. (Yes, that happened.)
