Short term? No, that isn't what I was saying. Long term, both is better than just cardio. There is no debate about that. It is simply true.

Look at the situation that the guy is. He has to do something (earn money) in order to get to the gym. Where as he could simply do the same damn thing at home. Obviously, motivation is a factor. Short-term - HIIT, any other cardiovascular exercise wins hands down. Long term - same shit. The only difference is that in the long run you'll want more muscle mass which unfortunately, cannot be obtained through sheer cardiovascular exercise (to an extent). Be it short term or long term, when it comes to burning fat - any sort of cardiovascular activity (mentioning HIIT again) will beat strength/hypertrophy training. Now obviously you will burn MORE fat by having more muscle mass and doing cardiovascular exercise. But again, that is decision based on the person doing the workouts.

I'm with you on the fact of it being possible to get skinny no matter what even for a guy so fat that can't move, it just requires him to stop eating so bad, and people do need to stop blaming everything else. I've heard people say stuff like "I'd kill for a body like that" but the person wouldn't stop eating candy and exercise for a few months, blaming it on metabolism or whatever.
