K so I got a mountain bike a couple of days ago ( from walmart....i know I know) it was on clearance because of some cosmetic damage and I've been riding on it a lot recently when today I start riding and the crank and pedal falls off and I look inside the socket and it was stripped more than (insert generic "your mom" joke here) All I need to know is if it was my fault at all, how to avoid it, and if you know how much it might cost to get it replaced at a shop.

Got cha. It is most likely not your fault, sounds like the idiot who put it together did a crappy job or it got messed up in shipping, along with the "cosmetic wear".

There are 2 parts of the crack, the legs and the BB(Bottom Bracket). BB's come in a few sizes so I would make some calls to walmart, Schwinn(its a schwinn, right?) and if they turn you away without some free help or a warranty, take it to a somewhat respectable shop that deals mainly in hybrid bikes, not a racer shop, they would LOL at you fro bringing it in.

So I am gonna saylike 10 to 20 bucks for a BB and 10 to 15 for labor charge for a shop.

If you don't understand, or want a more complex example, ask during class. Pay attention when going over homework, and make sure to ask about problems that gave you trouble. Study groups really work.
