I can respect that. but in fairness i think Cormac McCarthy is a great modern Author, his basic yet foreboding style made for rather interesting read.

If you haven't already read it you should give "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by, Ray Bradbury. It's a fantastic story, but his excessive use of literary devices and over the top diction made it a little to incomprehensible for my taste.

Anyways, thanks for the replies. It was nice chatting with you.

well thats disappointing that you say that. i really enjoyed paper towns, and i haven't read a ton of his work, but what i have read i did enjoy.

any particular books of his i should steer clear from?

not just his. most any modern writer is god awful. their form of writing is so boring now.
"he went to the store"
"he bought a hat"
"he wore the hat"
writers are now spending more focus on the story than the actual way it's being written. it's depressingly retarded.

no bro. idc how great of an actor, writer, athlete, singer or whatever, if you do stupid and immoral shit, your stupid and immoral. im not going to ignore they're faults because they're amazing at what they do. no one gets to be above others in judgement just because they're famous. nor am i saying one act defines a person either.
User avatar #134 - frenzysalem (06/17/2013) [-]
that's just it though. everyone on this site makes jokes about pedophilia and doing drugs and raping women and all that stuff and we just laugh about it. then comes along someone who's amazing at what she does and you guys decide to hate on her because she slept with a married man and ODd on drugs. you guys are just focusing on the bad things. keep in consideration that she was abused as a child. she had an above average IQ and she did tons of charity work. but nah it's okay if you happen to forget about that as long as you're trying to make your point. needless to say she provided america with some of the best acting the world has ever seen. but you guys just DECIDE to hate her because she did drugs (something nearly EVERYONE on this site jokes about and i wouldn't be surprised if many of the people on this site have ODd before) and she slept with a married man (ALSO something that FJ constantly jokes about). get the fuck off of your high horse. people make mistakes. you're all just focusing your hate on her because society has ultra-idolized celebrities to the point where one slip up makes them the fucking anti-christ.

User avatar #154 - doctorgolgo (06/13/2013) [-]
While Atkinson's quote addresses religion along with ideas in general, I think a lot of folks of all persuasions feel that "that other religion" (whatever that means) is the main cause of tension in today's world. Atkinson was not trying to justify hatred, he was trying to uphold freedom of thought and speech. And I agree, nobody should have the right to tell anybody what to think or say. To make it criminal to hold an opinion opposite to another person is just plain idiotic.

Well how do atheists express themselves? Oh yeah! They should post funny content like the Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Wiccans, Cult of Dioysiss, Sun worshippers on the site.
#159 - veryspecialagent (06/13/2013) [-]
Are you actually implying that religious people post content related to religion?

Because, with the exception of certain game-related jokes, I rarely ever see any. And if there are their self-deprecating jokes.
User avatar #169 - babbylicious (06/13/2013) [-]
Context wise, I mean that everyone should post funny (or try to be) posts.
Yeah you are right, most of the religious people do not post religious post (with the exception of the foil of Terian) and I am sure there are plenty of atheists who do not post atheist related posts as well. Context wise, I am saying that those atheists who do post mainly atheist posts should switch over to funny content on funnyjunk, not this crap which feels just as bad as what the religious right post on facebook.

I think it would all work out well if there wasn't maternity leave and men an women received equal pay. Therefore if you didn't have a child you weren't penalized and if you wanted to have one you should be financially prepared for it.
#39 - infernis has deleted their comment.
User avatar #40 - flemsdfer (05/28/2013) [-]
I don't see why someone shouldn't be financially prepared for a child or why all women should be penalized pay wise for the chance they have a baby. It wouldn't stop us from having children. It would just mean those who are more equipped to raise children would be the ones having them and there are plenty of unwanted children as it is the way things are now. We could afford some pregnancies not happen honestly.
#41 - infernis has deleted their comment.
User avatar #42 - flemsdfer (05/28/2013) [-]
Here I could say we could do without. Children that aren't prepared for go on all kinds of government programs because the parent can't provide and they just take from the all and all of things instead of give. Then we have more people in the future to be retired, but instead of giving they took and it all goes to hell. =/
