That's biology in general. How does knowing dinosaurs turned into birds help cure cancer?

I suspect if you don't already know, my telling you is not going to help, and that your comment is purely to taunt those of us who actually know what evolution means, but here it goes. Evolution is at the very heart of all biological sciences. Knowing that birds can trace their ancestry to dinosaurs doesn't help cancer research. Understanding how it happened does. Random genetic mutation happens all the time due to breakages and faulty repairs in the DNA of all life forms. Depending on the mutation, it can cause benign growths, cancer, or deformities. When these deformities give the life form an advantage, such as immunity to a particular antibiotic, it is more likely to survive and pass the trait on to offspring who will do the same. Over several generations, the individuals with the advantage will begin to outnumber those without it and the species has made an evolutionary shift. Cancer is caused by the same genetic mutation that drives evolution, only it makes an individual less likely to survive. Cancer happens in wild animals, but far less often than in humans or domestic animals, because the bad genes are not likely to be passed on due to the death of the carriers.

What technology is based on evolution?
#25 - xxxsonic fanxxx (01/14/2013) [-]
Only all of biology. BTW it's a pretty good indictor of stupidity. To proove this, let us play a game: name one American Invention, and I will name one of my people.

Biology is not a technology. Airplanes.

When any technology is changed and improved, isn't that technically evolution of said technology?

Most directlyy, genetics, cancer, and infectious disease research but many concepts in chemistry, and artificial intelligence are also based on evolution.

As careers go, it's kind of like being a musician. You'll be lucky to keep the lights on unless you get famous, but it is a whole lot of fun as a hobby/second job. If you think you've got what it takes, give it a try. I recomend reading "step by step to stand up comedy" It's a great book that covers the fundamentals. There's a big difference between being funny to your friends and being funny to an audience, but if you can do one, you can learn the other.

You'll love it. I definately recomend easing into it as a hobby. Write a few jokes. Go to an open mic once or twice a wek for awhile and see how it goes. And prepare yourself for harsh criticism. Everybody sucks their first few times. Good luck with the computer programming. My day job is IT as well.

ya know, it really is. I love it. It's more than performing and making people laugh. It's the community. You go to the open mics where all the local comedians practice. You go to the shows where everyone comes out to support each other and it starts to take over your social life. When the show's over and everyone's hanging out for a few drinks, you find your self ************ with the funniest people in your area and becoming friends with them. It is the most fun I have ever had in my life.
