I was a big fan of Tennant and was somewhat wary of Matt in the beginning of his time. As of this moment, I can look back and say for certain that Matt Smith is without a doubt my favorite Doctor. It was a gradual thing, but he wormed his way into my heart by the end.

"You gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me."

I am totally like you. I wasn't sure about Matt at first but then ended up being my favorite. I was sad that he was leaving so soon. I will defintely miss his great speeches and hearing "I Am The Doctor" or "The Majestic Tale of a Mad Man In A Box"

He had overall better stories, but such a boy doctor just didn't feel right to me.
Tennant was cool but I still prefered Eccleston when it comes to the 2005 series. Probably because the classic doctors have been more... grown-up-ish. This is why I have big hopes for Capaldi.

In areas where solar power is actually useful (i.e. Southwest US) they use absorption chillers that are driven by solar collectors. No solar panels needed, only mirrors to concentrate sun onto aqua-ammonia solution and boil it.

0days aren't much threat nowadays since nearly every reasonable antiviral software comes equipped with the means to block them. I've gotten everything from rootkits to trojans during my year without having even a shitty anti-virus program like norton (and before I learned how to protect myself without one). Not a single 0days though, they're rarely run especially by malware attackers.

If adblock makes them feel better, I suppose. It's not like it's any safer really, if you visit a porn site that does background installs than you're screwed with it or without it.

I just want admin to stop annoying the living shit out of his users with pleas for money.

Just by disabling the block alone won't get you malware. Malware usually requires a download of some sort, and just looking at an infected ad won't give you it. Those people don't know what they're talking about, and as I said, a few scans with malwarebytes a year takes care of 99.9% of the problem.

You're being tracked and the data sent to untrustworthy third parties by google. A hospital site I visited and joined when my mother was in surgery lead to me getting constant phone calls that I had to block. They claim that's not the way it is, but read the fine print.

Your third point is the most valid, as I said.
#113 - fragman (08/18/2014) [-]
The thing about those people getting malware is in most cases either a driveby download (as you said) which can be eliminated by using noscript or a security flaw in the used webbrowser. Luckily just by keeping the browser up to date, this is usually not a big issue. Sure, 0day exploits exist (which this kind of attacker rarely has access to) and breaking out of a (proper) browser's sandbox is feasible, but automated malware distribution can't do that since it pretty much needs to be tailored towards a specific target system (OS version, patchlevel, language pack, browser version etc.) which is the exact opposite of what those networks are trying to achieve.

But as long as you can't even hammer simple stuff like that into people's minds I wouldn't expect them to be aware of how to properly detect/remove malware, hence the recommendation to keep using their pseudo-security benefit called adblock.

quick reality check. in the past few days I've been flamed about 7 times regarding how "misinformed" I am after telling people disabling adblock will not give them malware.
The other thing is, just because I'm being tracked anyway doesn't mean I should willingly open unnecessary doors for more tracking by more (even less trustworthy) third parties.

Since the screening process for ad networks on this site seems to consist of how much they pay per impression and then might be reevaluated if enough people got infected, I just can't advise anyone to allow ads here.

Look, here's why disabling ad filtering (be it adblock or something more sophisticated) is a bad idea: privacy is essentially disabled due to additional uncontrolled tracking. now one could argue that this isn't that big a deal but we've seen how trustworthy the ad networks are which admin uses here. so that's a no. plus, there's the whole malware story. no, disabling adblock will not magically give you malware if your system is secure, but according to the amount of whining going on lately it's safe to assume that the average FJ user's system is not secure. so it's really not a good idea for them to disable it.

My prediction is that when the anime catches up (probably by the end of chairman election arc), we wait for the HxH 2024 reboot.
#121 - ReeferTrees (08/21/2014) [-]
I have seen so many unfinished stories thanks to anime and manga... I really thought I'd see the end of this one, but it's not looking good.

Berserk
Bleach
Blade of the Immortal
Gwyn Saga

and many more... makes me sad man

You heard, bitch? He's allied with Illumi.

I've been advertising your channel skipper a lot lately, and someone suggested uploading a content for it. I did re-host it on userscripts, but if you don't mind I would like to upload a post about it. And yes, I have been making sure to give credit where it's due for you <3 It is an awesome thing.
#40 to #39 - fragman ONLINE (07/04/2014) [-]
sure, go ahead
User avatar #35 - DisgruntledTomato ONLINE (10/16/2013) [-]
Just a quick reminder, I still use your channel skipper <3
#36 to #35 - fragman ONLINE (10/17/2013) [-]
woah that is still a thing?
awesome, thanks
User avatar #37 to #36 - DisgruntledTomato ONLINE (10/17/2013) [-]
I don't know if others use it, but I still do. Probably going to write a UI for it as well. Pretty useful.
User avatar #33 - akkere (06/19/2012) [-]
I decided to do an EZ setup
www.mediafire.com/?b5qdg8cez3563db

I wasn't able to finish it in time before the post was out of its 24 hour slot, but it has a readme with some instructions so you don't have to keep repeating yourself

What do you think?
User avatar #26 - venumb (06/18/2012) [-]
Is it alright if I take what you have so far and edit it and repost the results as long as I mention your name? I plan on adding GUI and other features other than Skipper. The auto thumb/thumb down will probably be in there too.

Really good work on the idea :)
#27 to #26 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
I really wouldn't recommend the thumb down feature, there is a vote limit for a certain timespan which could have negative impact on functionality and would also motivate people to post their content outside the channel.
But expanding it in general, sure.
User avatar #28 to #27 - venumb (06/18/2012) [-]
I guess your right. I'll leave the thumbing out of the expanded release. I have other ideas that I'm am way more motivated on accomplishing anyway.
#21 - negrocop (06/18/2012) [-]
If you want, I can make a quick step by step guide for you to post for Chrome users and how to edit the skipped channels.
#22 to #21 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
this would be really nice. but since my 24 hour frame is almost done and this content will go back to the depths of *************** I dont think it will be necessary.
#23 to #22 - negrocop (06/18/2012) [-]
Ah I truly doubt that. This was a huge step forward for FJ today, it'll be remembered for a while. And you could upload a Firefox guide and a Chrome guide for newbies in the following days. Especially probably around Thursday or Friday since a lot of Bendingtime posts will come about Saturday. There will be tons of bitchin about it. :P
#24 to #23 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
good idea. I like it.
In this case it'd be wonderful if you could provide the chrome guide :)

Rawr, this should be good.

Which page did you fond the source code that showed the channels in an array?

#14 to #13 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
I don't quite get what you mean...
the code is fully hand-written
User avatar #15 to #14 - natedimes ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
Oh, I thought you said that there was a way to edit the source code.
#16 to #15 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
ah now I get it.
Depends on your browser. You might want to check out this if you're using chrome:
stackoverflow [DOT] com/questions/5258989/manually-adding-a-userscript-to-google-chrome
#17 to #16 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
rest should be in the content description.
User avatar #18 to #17 - natedimes ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
If you're referring to adding the channel skipper, don't worry about that it installed automatically :). I was just wondering about when you said that you could edit the source code so it only skips certain channels.
#19 to #18 - fragman ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
actually that's what I meant...
you'll need to find where the script is stored in order to edit it. that should be explained in the description pretty much, on the stackoverflow site you'll find the various user-datadir defaults for chrome.
then edit the file script.js in notepad++ or something like that
User avatar #20 to #19 - natedimes ONLINE (06/18/2012) [-]
Ohhh ok now I get it :). Thank you, Sir.

depends on your browser. if you're using firefox with greasemonkey, you can simply create a new user script (after you've defined a default userscript editor, e.g. notepad++) and paste the source code. then edit the array defined in line 9 to be filled with all the channels you'd like skipped, like this:
var skipit = new Array("channel1", "channel2", "channel3");

this is a little ugly, but I don't know of any better way at this moment.
you'll find the script in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\1_0\script.js
while "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a random string. I don't know how that's generated but if it's based on the script source code it should be "camaaaeklepkjffjiookkjabipiidofl".
In this folder there are two files, manifest.json and script.js (which is the one you can edit using any text editor and just save it)
