sure they can, what does it matter? But pronouns don't affect reality.
I can call my car a he or she as well, doesn't change the fact that it's an "it"

Its just about respecting the trans community. They identify as girl even though assigned sex is male. Gender=/=Sex, I really hope you don't call someone who identifies as a woman a "he". Kind of shitty.

I personally have a fucking issue with treating mental disorders with respect while we treat others with criminalization or at least exclusion no matter if the person has done anything illegal. (Just scroll through the list: apps.who.int/classifications/icd10/browse/2016/en#/F60-F69 )

I don't care if Bruce wants to be Caitlyn or whoever. But until F64.0 is deleted from the IDC-10 database I see no reason to encourage such bullshit because encouraging an action/way of life that we at the same time call a mental disorder and therefore in some countries even have state funded treatment available... that just doesn't compute.

Also, I don't respect the trans community, just like I don't respect the gay community, the black community or the funnyjunk community. I respect individual people based on what they do. But I know, this is transphobic, homophobic, racist, sexist and being an oppressive shitlord.

I think NdGT hasn't really looked much into philosophy/theology and just identifies as 'agnostic' to avoid the stigma associated with 'atheist'. 'Agnostic' is a less offensive term, although ultimately useless.

Sure, it might be that he simply didn't gather the proper background information on the terms, but from a scientist like him I'd simply expect a bit more of an informed response and/or intellectual honesty.

Well, easy times breed weak people. The rot usually starts from the inside until finally an enemy realizes how weak you are and conquers you/ nation falls apart because of people willing to gain independence.

Kind of different now. With nukes, military conquering is literally not an option. Also the great powers don't massive land space like in the past(Rome,Persia,USSR,Britain). So only ''fall' that the western countries could have is an economic/cultural one?

I like your point, but I see the term "civilization" a bit broader, if you would allow me. You say great advanced civilizations are gone. Well, yes, the people who made them are gone. But we're here, building on their ashes and appreciating everything they did, every technological and philosophical advance. So they did contribute to evolution, after all. They ensured our civilization gets a head start.

You also mention "equality of outcome" being the cause of "below reasonable standard required to keep the civilization". Interesting view, but maybe we've come to the point where evolutionary progress is less relevant on an individual level, but more on whole eras of civilization, if you see what I mean. It's the same point as the first one, really. We will build a civilization, such as it is, it may well fall apart - but there will be a next one that will continue where we left off (more or less) and advance further.

All in all, interesting stuff. Would love to discuss it more.
#175 - fragman (02/12/2016) [-]
Well, could you elaborate on what you mean by eras of civilization?
My main reasoning is that biological evolution depends on reality being represented as closely as possible. In the case of humans that would mean more intelligent = higher chances of procreation, seeing as intelligence is the one factor which lead to humans becoming the dominant species.
This does not happen anymore in the western world. The fact that IQ (I'm using this because it's the closest measurable representation of intelligence we have available) correlates with income and shows similarities between parents and children isn't new. But in a welfare state this measure is eliminated when it comes to determining the makeup of the nexxt generation. You can be as dumb as a second coat of paint and have 7 kids. They'll all live (usually), even if you can't afford them. The movie Idiocracy takes this a bit ad absurdum but shows an extreme case of this behavior.

As for your point of the next civilization picking up where we left off, that is an absolutely resonable expectation as long as the current knowledge isn't lost. And it kind of argues in favor of my initial claim as well. We have n advanced civilization, we overdo it with progressivism or whatever, "breed weak people" and the civilization goes down. Therefore times get hard. Which would then "breed strong people" who could start building a new civilization while profiting from the knowledge of those before and advance further.

May I put forth one thing. This one thing will explain pretty much everything, the cause, the root of the problems if you will.

#179 - arreatface (02/12/2016) [-]
there's a line between being lovey touchey with everyone and making one group of persons/ideology/religion fully responsible for your problems.
What I mean is : SJWs are a thing, but you forgot jews, niggers, the illuminati and the politicians !
This way you can have a whole bunch of groups responsible for your problems !

but seriously kids, never praise only one church.

**Sevenseas used "*roll picture*"**
**Sevenseas rolled image**I would inject that it would be SJW's, Muslims, Gangsters (plus wannabe's/drug corner pushers), and politicians would be the problem then.
#182 - arreatface (02/12/2016) [-]
Thats oversimplifying, behind those politicians are lobbies who prevent them from doing anything remotely game-changing. A good example would be like france actually, with the luxury tax question. ive already explained that in another post but heres a resumee : tampons and bananas are considered luxury items so theyre taxed 54%, whereas things like Gucci bags and swiss watches are not considered luxury items so theyre tax free.
after that there's both socialists and republican governements who have done loads of shit. we could talk about the bush era and its views on terrorism or the fuckloads of debt the french public social security system has generated over the past twenty years. it even has an official name here : "le Trou de la Secu" litteraly "the Hole of Social Security"

This associated with the unregulated massive immigration due to positive leftist views on the matter im not talking about SJWs here, much before that president Mitterand and May 68 made "peace and love" views popular. gave way for the unemployment and crime rates we have now. And thats still oversimplifying.

P.S Keep in mind that I speak mostly for the french/european part of the world, as im not american and your views on immigration are pretty weird too or so Ive been told.

P.P.S sorry if im unclear on some points but im not a native english speaker so my grammar is kind of lacking.

No, all politicians are bad. They aren't doing their job in the interest of the people, they are in it for the money. That tampon thing is fucked up but Banana's aren't a local fruit so I can see why they'd be a luxury item.

I'm rather uneducated when it comes to politics mainly because is just bums me the fuck out when I read that stuff, like I get really depressed. I like the ideology of peace and love, but that stopped working when everyone stopped smoking weed (this is more a nod to the 70's and 80's). I feel as though common people like you or me would make a great politician but how the shit does one even get started in that hell hole?

#37 - notagainpls (02/12/2016) [-]
I don't know why you're being down-thumbed but your approach to this topic is good. There's lots of speculation around it. Why did the Egyptian Empire cease to exist? Some say invasion, some say nature called with earthquakes, tsunamis. Same thing with ancient Greece. Was it a huge famine or the crumbling economy? A famine means a huge migration of people, who of course bring along their families. It's in some sense comparable with today.
