How can they outnumber white people in college when there's simply way more white people in the US? Also with the way the jobs are now you're pretty much required to go to college in order to make a living, so people are forced to take gigantic student loans in order to pay for school. That's why the college debt in the US surpassed credit card debt.

I don't quite appreciate you assuming my situation. I live in Western Sydney (Australia), which is our version of the ghetto. When I head to the eastern suburbs, or even into the city, there is a tone of disgust in the voices of the residents there when they find out where i'm from- class discrimination is a big thing here.

I don't feel as though talking about this topic further with you will do either of us any good, so perhaps we could agree to disagree?
#70 - fpsnoob (12/02/2013) [-]
I don't see how commenting on a situation in the US, while living in another country is fitting at all. I do not know how scholarships and other aids function in Aus (and I will not comment on it), but here in the US ethnicity plays a huge role in getting scholarships and getting accepted into good colleges. In a country that always yells about equality and freedom that's just unacceptable.

Also take a look at this picture that was posted further down in the comments.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation and I can try to empathize with how difficult things may have been for you, but I stand by what I said.
As I said to epicscorpion, I admit that people from all walks of life can need help. However I don't believe that the alternative be "help everyone or no one" which seems like the overarching point I see you're trying to make.

The concept of affirmative action was implemented by privileged whites who wanted to make themselves feel better about their socio-economic standing. There is documented proof that this system can actually be worse for the minorities it 'serves' by placing college-eligible young adults into schools that are above their natural leaning curve.

well that was something I heard quite a few times in researching this, so we will let that one go (motherboard). at any rate, I make/made several computers for people on tight ass budgets and I tried to match this for the same price and wasn't able to do so without going so cheap it's almost promised to fail and still couldn't fit a controller (assuming $40+) in there. :/

at any rate, it is early in this "steam box" game and I think others will step in eventually too and make it a competitive market place.
If nothing else, valve is not making steam boxes but will leave the CAD files up for free download to print out your own case and then add you own components. lol

First of all, both companies have put to bed the LIE that they sell these at a loss, of any kind. even without them saying that, that would be a truly stupid business move on anyones part, no matter how big... but then again we do not need to talk about business choices and such as It's already known they DO make profit off the consoles alone.

Do you know realize they make their own motherboard, in house? they can just the cost of every part BUT the CPU/GPU/Storage and end out making a great system. also, why would only two slots be bad for this set up? you can gun up to 16GB in just two slots (probably 8 in this system and a single stick) which is enough for ANY gaming rig.

this isn't built for memory or CPU super intensive things. It's made for gaming, gaming, and gaming (maybe some internet or video stuff).

While what you say about consoles being sold at loss may be true (I'm too lazy to research it) that doesn't change my point about the value of the hardware that will go into this system. I've tried configuring systems through ibuypower multiple times before (first a desktop several years ago before deciding to build it myself, then a laptop half a year ago before going with cyberpower instead that was much cheaper) so I don't see how it would possibly be any more expensive to build your own system with identical or better hardware that ibuypower will put into this system.

Also I've never heard of ibuypower making their own motherboards before. All their systems use hardware from major manufactures, I'm actually pretty confident that they do no hardware manufacture at all, they simply buy hardware from manufacturers just like you can for building a computer, and then they put it together for their customers.

>low end

if you aren't going bigger than 1080p, then a 270 and 280 are the best cards for it. anything higher and you're joking yourself if you think they show a great difference at anything lower then 1440p.

on top of that you can just torrent Windows OS. THEN, instead of using the crack, you can purchase just a key for like $15 from windows and BAM windows

I've done the math and a "regular PC" with some parts not even being that good, you can build "similar" for $500, but without the controller or anything special for heatsinks (I will assume ibuypower will use at least some aftermarket copper plated base and pipe(s) into aluminum fins.

This is a tremendous price:performance.
User avatar #165 - fpsnoob (11/29/2013) [-]
Yes, the GPU is good, for the price, however they said nothing about other hardware outside of it being an AMD CPU and having a 500 GB hard drive. Having such a tiny motherboard also means that it will likely only have 2 memory slots, limiting your ram choices. Also considering that the r9 270 alone costs $180 (and knowing ibuypower they will probably value it at more than that) you're not going to be seeing anything amazing out of this system.

ibuypower isn't a giant company that can afford to sell their hardware at a loss the way that Sony and Microsoft do. Those companies bet on making their losses back from software sales and decreased cost in the future. ibuypower won't be making money off PC games that will be played on it, so they have to make their money off just the hardware. And then unlike consoles this system won't be attracting any customers within the next 2 years unless they constantly upgrade the hardware in it making it impossible to drop the price.

You can, but at that point you already lost the benefit of that price. You're basically paying ibuypower to build you a low end gaming PC with an unpractical shiny case on it. You'd be better off just building a regular PC.
