There isn't a way to literally go around the web. It's an expression, and those are typically not literal for them to make sense.

That's like saying I literally threw logic out the window.

An expression cannot be literal for it to retain its figurative meaning.

If your mom said "I literally went around the block" it would mean she traveled around the block, not that she's "been there, done that or them, in the case of this expression " as the phrase figuratively means.

You cannot expect common sense to be applied to a literal statement. That is contradictory to what it actually means.
If you refer to anything outside of the stated, you are not taking it literally, meaning the message itself wasn't literal, ergo the term was used erroneously.

Like I said, because language is a human creation and more and more people seem to mistake the concept for a figurative term, it will eventually become one. Not yet though. You're still wrong as of today.

Interpretation being necessary makes "literal" inapt for describing a statement. You can't apply LITERALLY to the end of the sentence and just ignore what it's directly describing.

He is literally replying that "this gif has LITERALLY been around the web". It is a figurative manner of speaking, which is always exclusive of literal speaking. It is misused, plain and simple.
