The whole awkward cousin thing is that both guns are resilient in almost all conditions, and break the mechanisms of comparable rifles down into a more simple and reliable system. Depends how long the current is going through the cable for, if they get too hot it can cause problems but it would take a long time for it to happen. Providing it wasn't on 24/7 should be fine for a year or 2
