#27 - per calorie burned the bike is the most efficient form of travel.  [+] (12 new replies) 11/14/2014 on So true +55

Not true.

Rafting downstream requires no calories. You just sit back and the water moves you.
Sailing requires no calories. The wind moves you.
Falling requires no calories (provided you are high up somewhere). If you jump off a building you travel very quickly with no calories.
#68 - Womens Study Major (11/14/2014) [-]
You obviously never did one of the three things you named.

Sailing is exhausting as fuck because you have to constantly check the sail and maneuver according to the circumstances.
Same goes for rafting except the part with the sail.
Falling is the worst of the three because of the adrenalin rush and the fact that you have to maintain your body tension.
#71 - robuntu (11/14/2014) [-]
You're full of crap. I went rafting with my entire family. We parked, then got in a van (tour company provided) to drive us up to a dock. We even brought a cooler of beer with us.

The van let us out and we got in the water, then we sat on our asses, effortlessly while the current moved us all the way back to our car.

Three hours of travel - no energy required.

Also you don't'have to maintain tension when falling. You can fall however you want. You can even fall slowly via mechanical means (like a parachute) without using any energy.
#72 - swaffel (11/14/2014) [-]
except you don't decide where you go, not an effective way of travel now is it?
#73 - robuntu (11/14/2014) [-]
Effective is not the same as efficient.

#74 - swaffel (11/14/2014) [-]
I know, but in an apacolypse they both matter.
#75 - robuntu (11/14/2014) [-]
I'd argue it matters less in an apocalypse...

If I need to get to work, I need to get to a specific place. If I need to get away from zombies, I can go any direction.
#76 - swaffel (11/14/2014) [-]
In an apocalypse you need to get to a safe location and supplies. Not every river leads to that.
#79 - robuntu (11/14/2014) [-]
No. But not every bicycle route is more efficient than walking either. If you need to hike up a mountain it takes more energy to ride a bicycle than to walk.

I was only (correctly) asserting that bicycles are the most efficient form of travel, in terms of calories expended.

There are other forms of travel that take less energy.

Rafting down the Mississippi river takes less energy than cycling it.

Duh but you can detoxify your saliva of evidence of recreational drug use by walking in with detox mouth wash which is sold directly next to synthetic urine in smoke shops so I am failing to see your logic.

If it was for you should be fine, just remember that those that don't show any respect for a police officer often have something to worry about, and good luck, I hope it works out well for you.

No comments here? Lets fix that.

What are some good places to eat around here?
User avatar #3 to #1 - fiveseventwo (06/19/2014) [-]
If you like sushi and are on a budget, check out Sushi Choo Choo, there is on on Voss and one on 1960, if you don't mind paying out the ass for some awesome sushi and night club atmosphere, try RA Sushi on Westheimer just inside the 610 loop. If you like burgers you have to go to Hubcap Grill, it is tucked away and you will probably have to eat outside, but well worth it, a cheaper alternative is Someburger on Studewood. But if you are looking for some down home country cooking like Grandpa still bitches about not getting any more, Mama's on pinemont, but I think they close after lunch. Tex-Mex I would have to suggest Pericos mexican cafe is awesome as well as cheap, I suggest the el pastor. There is a ton more, let me know what you like

Have you ever been to Gil's B-Q?
User avatar #5 to #4 - fiveseventwo (06/19/2014) [-]
I have not, I don't eat bbq from restaurants, back yard bbq is best bbq.
User avatar #6 to #5 - xblthatguy (06/19/2014) [-]
Makes sense. I always hear people rave about Texas Bbq. I'm looking for anything interesting. Zesty, new, something interesting.
User avatar #7 to #6 - fiveseventwo (06/19/2014) [-]
bbq inn, I remember this place from my childhood, if it is too far you could try goode company, i wasn't that impressed but they have a following, just stay away from rudy's and stay away from demeris, they arent very good and I would hate for you to think that is the taste of Texas.
User avatar #8 to #7 - xblthatguy (06/19/2014) [-]
Haha, I'll keep that in mind. Goode's is only 10 minutes from me, so I'll definitely look into that.
User avatar #9 to #8 - fiveseventwo (06/19/2014) [-]
You'll have to let me know what you think, but I've got a list of the best hole in the walls with the best food, what part of Houston are you staying in?
User avatar #10 to #9 - xblthatguy (06/19/2014) [-]
I'm just below memorial park.
User avatar #11 to #10 - fiveseventwo (06/19/2014) [-]
OK, most of the places I know are in Northwest Houston and the Heights. Check out 19th street just west of yale, it has a bunch of fun little shops to check out, same thing with rice village the Galleria, just mind that traffic. .
