limberlarry (10/23/2015) [-] From what I understand, most modern historians think there was never any realistic of germany beating russia, even with japanese help. American military action was a very small part of the overall war against germany, although obviously they were the main contributor to the war against japan. America's most meaningful contribution to the european war was its material aid, food and tools and shells etc. america could have never landed a single soldier in africa or europe and the outcome would have been much the same, though it may have taken slightly longer. TLDR nazi germany never really had a chance, and the US' biggest contribution came from its factories, not its soldiers You,re probably right but if they did manage to take down the Soviets, they would still have had to deal with constant rebellion and each other. I also agree that the Soviets had a larger roll in the European part of WWII and had far more deaths than the US, but the largest number of deaths during the war were not military but civilian and more than half of all Soviet deaths during the war were not soldiers. The statistics get severely thrown off because of the mass killings of civilians by the Nazis. Additionally, when you count only from when the US joined the war until its end, the number of US deaths is nearly as high as the number of Soviet deaths during that period, although the Soviets still lost more people. You are right that America contributed largely in material aid to the war effort, but i think you also underestimate how important that was. Without that aid, the Nazis would have had France a couple years earlier and Britain would have fallen before the US even joined the fighting. The Nazis probably wouldn't have ultimately won the war and even if they had, their empire would have collapsed not long after because infighting would almost certainly have torn it apart. A totalitarian regime of that size could not be sustained. It may have lasted another decade or so but it would have gone the way of the Soviets, but probably with more actual fighting. | ||

| Do me a favor and look up "pyramid scheme". I think the phrase you may have been looking for is Ponzi scheme, which fits a bit better but not really because it will begin to pay out when you reach retirement age. If you wanted to poke holes in the concept of social security, you probably should have pointed out the fact that they keep increasing the retirement age required to collect full benefits. It makes sense that they would increase it as people are living longer than they used to but they fail to realize that the age at which people stop being effective workers doesn't seem to have increased at the same rate as the average lifespan. It certainly isn't a perfect system but it is better than having no system, especially for lower and middle class households. Because people are a bunch of irresponsible children. A majority of them would spend every dollar they make and then complain when it comes time to retire because they have no money. That is why social security was created in the first place. People were ending up homeless when they couldn't work anymore because they had no savings. | ||

| Nothing wrong with it at all but it shouldn't be expected either. I have an uncle that works in pharmaceuticals and has built up enough experience in the industry that when he is looking for a job he just makes a couple calls and companies will actively try to pick him up. He can make demands like having five weeks of paid vacation a year and a $250,000+ yearly salary. If no good deals come in, he usually consults for companies, which he actually makes more money doing but the work isn't always there. Maybe not the only one. I personally apply to as many as I'd be interested in working. It's not like you're the only person they're looking at. I've even told a place that I have an interview at another location coming up soon and it wouldn't be right to promise myself to one company and then miss a better opportunity or such at another. If they interviewer is any sort of good person they'll see that you're an individual who believes in themself and that is a very appealing quality. #66 -
ellojello (10/17/2015) [-] I'm sure not the only one, but close. Most people, especially coming out of college in the STEM fields, apply for several jobs, if not a dozen or so. If you're good in your field, some companies will even fight over you; sending head hunters out and/or getting into essentially "bidding wars." People heavily in the blue collar think that is the only type of jobs there are (often, not always) but the job market for engineers, physicists, mathematicians, etc. is not suffering so much and it is fairly easy to get several job offers at once. That's idiotic, and will never land you a job mate. Not even trying to be mean, but that's just plain stupid. You need to take the initiative to contact THEM. It shows the employer you're serious about the job and makes it much more likely that you'll get an interview/hired. I just singed on for unemployment allowance after being made redundant on Friday. Part of the requirement of the allowance is that I have to apply for a certain ammount of jobs per week. Therefore I have to apply for multiple at a time, and if they find out I skip on an interview I could lose the benefits aswell. Basically I can't just be looking at one specific job. #30 -
anon (10/16/2015) [-] You could do that, but when you spam resumes it could be weeks before a place replies to you. If you were to apply to a place, wait for them to offer an interview, then wait to hear back from them, that's like at minimum a week on one position. Best to just apply to lots of places at once. More interviews in less time that way. I had a full time internship in college and they said they were going to offer my a full time job when i graduated. I still looked for a job while i was finishing up my senior year and found another job that offered me something better. So I took that job, and its worked out great. I am getting paid more and i enjoy the job more. Long story short. If you are looking for a job apply to as many as you can, and interview with as many as you can as quickly as you can. Once you get a job, if you don't love it KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB. Keep applying for new places, if your company ends up finding out talk to them and tell them why, what you dont like and if you are doing a good job they will want to keep you and may offer you a raise. Thats what my internship tried to do they said they would offer me 15k more then they had already agreed to pay me. That's how you don't get a job in the near future. Some companies don't even reply, cause they're dicks. #19 -
animesource (10/16/2015) [-] So far I've been rejected only once, and they did inform me about it. #21 -
animesource (10/16/2015) [-] Technically three. 1st rejected 2nd accepted for internship, which I quit later (needed it only as part of the course) 3rd accepted for a job References as in diplomas, good grades in school or some shit. Or you wanna do a shit job. Dunno, I'd be really surprised if you'd get a dream job with much effort, that's really lucky. #25 -
animesource (10/16/2015) [-] My grades in school were shit. Wouldn't say in university they were anything special either, not to mention no one asked for my grades. Only a half-assed CV and 2 interviews. #16 -
