| No they don't. They want to uphold some of the constitution while ignoring other parts of it like freedom of religion and separation of church and state. They claim they want small government but then try to use the federal government to oppress people with beliefs that differ from their own. They are fanatical and absolutely refuse to compromise under any circumstances. They claim to be conservative but the actual conservatives hate them because they do nothing but impede anything resembling progress at all levels of the government. The actual conservative republicans hate them because they are so fucking radical but they are afraid to kick them out of the party because they now make up close to a 3rd of it and breaking up the republican party would guarantee a democrat president for the next several elections. I am not liberal and I am not conservative, believing that both sides have valid points but I have yet to see a tea party member make a decent point on anything. They are all stuck in the 1950s and can't get their heads around the fact that the world and the US have changed. #214 -
anon (10/12/2015) [-] Extremist feminism is a liberal view. You're never going to get that off of you until we as a society purge them from existence. It isn't really a liberal view anymore. The feminists that wanted equality were liberal. Third wave feminism is more like fascism which is actually an extreme of the right. They may claim to be about equality but they are really about the subjugation of men. Liberalism is an ideology based on equality. You are 100% right. I like your focus on clarifying definitions and the intentions of individuals being misinterpreted. Obviously I don't know your life story but I'd like to say that you represent real liberalism (if I qualify for saying so). Of course there are people that would disagree. It's frustrating sometimes because it seems so easy to look at a situation and the people involved with rationality and very often the people that would call themselves skeptics will come to the same conclusions as each other. It's a bad comparison to make but the ability to reason is like a religion that everyone is truly born with. You don't have to read any specific books or listen to any didacts in order to grasp universal concepts like cause and effect, logical fallacies and inconsistencies with arguments that stick out like a sore thumb. The irony (and the reason for the religious comparison) is that religion and reason have so many parallels that a religious person could just as easily say that I am deluded and in their mind they would be right. I'm going to stop here because I did the "internet athiest thing" and brought up religion, but I think I was just providing a bit of a stream of consciousness to see what you agree with and what you don't. I'm not even a liberal, I just hate words being twisted around by idiots that don't know what the word actually means.

anon (10/09/2015) [-] Except that some men actually do mature as they get older, and quality women always want mature men. I was a non-traditional student, former marine and I have always dated much younger women because they were my piers and they liked a mature man. When I was doing my post-doctoral research, I dated a grad student, 15 years younger. Was a great relationship for both of us. I never said men don't mature. All I said is there are some girls that think they are mature when they aren't, try to get with mature guys, and most of the time get taken advantage of. I never said a relationship between a younger woman and older man wouldn't work, I just said that most of the time it doesn't work because the girl, that thinks she is so mature, really isn't prepared for such a relationship. There is a large difference between a a teenage girl and a woman in her mid 20s and the same can be said about teenage boys and men in their 20s. A woman in her mid to late 20s is mentally more like a woman in her 40s than a girl in her teens is to a woman in her mid to late 20s. In this regard, I wouldn't say a woman in her mid 20s dating a guy in his mid 30s would be objectionable but I would say a girl in her teens dating a guy in his mid 20s is. This argument was never about people not maturing as they get older but rather immature people thinking they are mature when they really aren't.

jujuface (10/07/2015) [-] You can listen to biased news and still trust their information. Most news sources wouldn't outright lie to you, but you also have to be able to think for yourself, objectively in order to spot the spot the bullshit. >For example in this article - the first word in the headline itself: CLAIM basically gives breitbart a get out of jail free card in case the whole story is bullshit >The woman is not named plenty of reasons to not mention her name, but still cause for suspicion >She is making this claim after an unrelated controversy with her co-workers there >they don't tell us what that is So this claim is coming to light immediately after she was let go. Huge red flag Take this story with an enormous granule of salt. Personally I wouldn't let it affect my thoughts on the issue one way or another based on the words of a recently fired worker, but this in on the front page. More often than not, people will drink this kool aid right up. Like you couldn't see a bunch of pissed off Muslims raping a girl? Nothing good has come from these refugees. its not that they arent reliable--they certainly print things that are true, but if you ONLY read them then youll find yourself in an echo chamber and have 1 view on things. that doesnt mean that their articles arent valid. It doesn't necessarily mean they are true or false, just skewed to the right, the same way Fox News twists stories to fit their conservative ideals and MSNBC twists to fit their liberal ideals (although from what I've seen, brietbart isn't quite as bad as either of these). At this point, the problem comes more from a neutral political position being difficult to make a profit from and a seemingly ever-shrinking politically moderate population. People that lean right see their viewpoint as the center and anything left of it as being extremely liberal while people that lean left see their viewpoint is also center and anything that right of it as being extremely conservative. This is why the news networks that are closest to center, like CNN (yes I know there is no new network that is actually neutral but CNN is the closest there is anymore), have been losing viewership in the last few years. People don't want the truth, they want someone that agrees with them or they feel stupid/betrayed/angry. I personally have trouble taking any news at face value when it has such a clear political motivation behind it, like this article. The bulk of it may be true, but that doesn't mean they didn't omit things to make it better favor their viewpoint. So, you are absolutely correct that getting your news from a single, obviously biased source is going to do nothing but reaffirm what you already think you know, regardless of how right or wrong it may be. "right LEANING" like really dude? That means this is probably true then Because it makes the agenda of the left look bad. If it isn't true, its just propaganda. A group like Breitbart doesn't bother with stuff that isn't true, there is plenty of ammo in stuff that is, which doesn't tarnish reputation. IDK how you can reasonably spin this story into a political ideology anyway- the woman was gang raped and hushed to not damage the cause. Looks like the spin is in the facts, not how they are presented. #263 -
anon (10/07/2015) [-] Do you think they'll get arrested for posting blatant falsehoods? Because nobody does. Breitbart was sued for defamation of character on more than one occasion. I've had many good experiences with New York Times. When you're not viewing "editorials" or "opinion" pieces, then it's usually pretty good. For example, during the Ferguson trial they released a ridiculously unbiased article just stating the facts and even were one of the few papers to post links to the Court Documents so people could read the evidence for themselves.

| There aren't any losses for big media companies when it comes to piracy. Quite the opposite in fact. Can you imagine more efficient advertising? Losses may be the wrong word here. The companies say losses/theft and like to think that every single download was a sale that didn't happen because of piracy, but most, if not all those that pirate weren't going to buy the thing they pirated. So, loss isn't quite the right word. However, that doesn't make it a gain, although there are instances where companies are suspected of intentionally releasing their content on torrent sites and then recording all the IP addresses of people that download then seed it for the purpose of extorting money. This is actually a big problem a lot of ISPs are having because there are porn companies that do this to make a lot of money quickly by suing the people that download the stuff the company put out there. The problem here is that it is difficult to prove if the company was the original uploader and, if it was, can they legally sue someone for download content they personally made available for free. Piracy straight up causes a net profit for big companies. However, it may hurt smaller companies and individuals. The big companies of course say 1 download is 1 loss of sale. In reality, however, we see an opposite trend. Illegal downloads causes more purchases. | ||
