I'd advise the trip man, it would be better in the long run. I found out that K.T is calmer during vet trips if I rest my hand on him, or pet him. They need reassurance that everything is going to be alright.

Switch to wet food if it isn't already, and vise versa. or go with half dry half wet mixed up,
also if you have a food bowl that is constantly full it may be eating until it's sick, like the comp said cats have a tendency to not correlate actions and reactions, so cut back on the amount of food in the bowl.
